Audley Harrison: If you were his management.

Post by Crease »

Alright, after the fallout of the Harrison/Haye fight it looks as though Audball is finished... After a decade of unfulfilled potential, false prophecies and broken promises.
He became a Professional in the year 2000, and never achieved his life's dream of becoming a Wolrd Champion.

However the question I would ask you is:
If you were his Manager when would you have Harrison fight for a World Title and against which Opponent?

To make your job easier I have listed the 4 Champions since the year 2000 to present day. :TU:

Note: The WBF and the WBU titles are not included in this:

WBC Champion:
Lennox Lewis 2000-01
Hasim Rahman 2001
Lennox Lewis 2001-03
Vitali Klitchsko 2003-05
Hasim Rahman 2005-06
Oleg Maskaev 2006-
Samuel Peter 2007-08
Vitali Klitchsko 2008-Present

WBA Champion:
Evander Holyfield 2000-01
John Ruiz 2001-03
Roy Jones Jr 2003
John Ruiz 2003-05
Nikolai Valuev 2005-07
Ruslan Chagaev 2007-08
Nikolai Valuev 2008-09
David Haye 2009-Present

WBO Champion:
Chris Byrd 2000
Wladimir Klitchso 2000-03
Corrie Sanders 2003-04
Lamon Brewster 2004-06
Siarhei Liakhovich 2006
Shannon Briggs 2006-07
Sultan Ibragimov 2007-08
Wladimir Klitchsko 2008-Present

IBF Champion:
Lennox Lewis 2000-01
Hasim Rahman 2001
Lennox Lewis 2001-02
Chris Byrd 2002-06
Wladimir Klitchsko 2006-Present

IBO Champion:
Lennox Lewis 2000-01
Hasim Rahman 2001
Lennox Lewis 2001-03
Wladimir Klitchsko 2006-present

Initally, if I were his management. I would have targeted the WBO Title around 2006. Harrison maybe could ave squeezed a points victory against Liakhovich.

Can't really see him beating any of the others... :box:

Come on guys, this topic is worth discussing... Was there an opportunity for Audley to win a major World Title.

No. Why do people not realise that Audlley was an average EBU level heavy at best. Even the worst names on this list would have beaten him comfortably.

I think his best shots of winning a title would have been over Liakhovich or Maskaev, but to be honest. I would've picked against him in those fights too, but those were his most realistic chances.

Looking through the list I reckon that The Brothers K and Lennox Lewis will dismantle him with their jabs before despatching him in the later rounds, He would not be able to live the speed and the angles that Roy Jones would offer up he had gone with Jones as Jones would be hitting him with every single punch in the book from every single imaginable and would probably break down mentally as well, Holyfield's inside work would just unsettle him and then dispatch as well, as for the rest I am not sure on.

No, I think he loses to every champ through the 90s, most by knockout. I'll agree that his best chances are against Maskaev in 2006 and against Lyakhovich in 2006, but I honestly think he would have been stopped by both. If he grew some balls I'd give him a small change to take a points decision against Shannon Briggs, who in 2006-2007 (and since) is just a lumbering oaf with a good chin and a big punch. More likely, Audley's eyes light up with fear, he goes into a shell, takes a battering and he joins Briggs's list of 1 round KOs.

Quite a damning indictment on Harrison. It seems the majority of you just think that he was NEVER go enough to win a world title.

The public has spoken.

His lone shot would've been catching a past-it Evander on an off-night in which Holyfield just failed to throw punches a la Ruiz I/Donald. But I'd still favor the early 2000s era Holyfield to beat Harrison 4 out of 5 times.

I think he would have a chance with Jones. Audley was not quite there in 2003 but then again his shortcomings weren't as obvious either so he owuld have been more confident.

Roy only beat one hand-picked opponent with the aid of a hand-picked ref. I'm not convinced that he fancied fighting at Heavy against all-comers.

It depends if he agrees to go down in round 3 or not.

If he isn't in the tank then I would say his best shot would be against Briggs. That I would put him as an underdog though.
