I had Smith winning by two in a very close fight. A lot of people had Simpson winning, but a lot had Smith winning too. There was no robbery. There was no cheating by the judges. Smith has a legit, recent win over Simpson, and is number one in the country.

Next fight for Smith has to be the British, would Simpson relinquish the belt?

The thing is I cant think of many rounds in that fight Smith won clearly. Simpson was the boss that night even though he looked sluggish. With one Smith having been beaten I would suggest sending John up to the Echo to finish the job would be a very risky move for Warren. Likewise I dont actually like that fight for Simpson beacause a) it would be in Liverpool and b) Smith does have the skill to beat him.

I'd like to see him take a straightforward defence at the next Burns card and then have a pop at the European. If there is any fighter who deserves to be thoughtfully matched and treated like a commodity rather than an opponent its John Simpson.

One last point on Smith- I find him and his attitude impressive. But sending him to Belfast would have been a bad, bad piece of match-making at that stage of his career. Still cant believe they sent Appelby over there! I thought it was the opposite mate. Smith for me won the clear rounds, with the rest being wars. From what I can remember Smith won 3 of the first 4 comfortably. Then 2 of the next 3. Had a big 10th (I think it was), and I gave him another somewhere else, winning it 7-5.

Surely a fight at the Echo would be better for John, with him looking more impressive away from home? I fancy Smith for the win again, and by a better margin, providing both hands hold up (something people seem to forget from the first fight).

Smith would have fought Lindsay tonight if it weren't for the hand, fella. No chance Warren would have stopped Ste from travelling - Swifty had earn't it.

Good point about Simpson being just an opponent. I do feel he's been hard done by in the past and wouldn't resent him getting a shot at a higher accolade, despite believe there's a score to settle domestically. Simpson is the type of fighter that appeals to all boxing fans (bit like Martin Power). He's a warrior, and despite having been unlucky in the past, he gets on with it and has achieved the position he's in now through hard work. All the best to him.

Lindsay shouldn't let the head fall. He needs 3 or 4 good wins next year and he'll be on the European title track.

In his career he's had 29 fights, facing 10 boxers who had unbeaten records, and only faced 6 opponents with losing records.

He is a domestic version of Julio Cesar Chavez - Ricky Burns got a world title shot on less - why not John Simpson? He may not win but he will go out on his shield - unlike that twat parcel force!

I was delighted for John: I feel he's been on the wrong end of several dubious decisions over the years. But as others have said, you have to have a lot of time for his attitude: he just gets on with it, and doesn't give an inch.

Martin had the number 1 EBU spot before last night, so presumably John will take this. Martin also had a number 6 ranking with the IBF. But I would imagine an EBU final eliminator would now be relatively easy to make, and would be the route to take, unless John's pride tells him to go in with Smith again.

Whatever, it's impossible to imagine John in a boring fight! Hats off to him!

Great fight last night! Simpson's probably my favourite domestic level fighter, he always puts it on the line and he always gives great value for money. Really pleased for John.


Judges always get a bashing on here and quite rightly so in alot of instances, but I think they should all be commended for last nights work. It was a close fight that Simpson definitely won (narrowly) and despite him being on away turf the judges all got the right result. Howard Davies, John Keane and Richie Davies..... I salute you on last nights work


John's always gonna struggle with a boxer-mover type, but very few in the world will beat him at the weight if they're gonna stand in front of him, rock solid, iron will and fantastic engine. Respect!

I thought he was always going to be just shy of domestic title class when he lost pretty comprehensively to Steven Foster Jnr - my word he has comeback from that.

Hats off to Lindsay also in an outstanding effort in defeat. I thought Simpson was a clear deserving winner - glad justice has been done. He could count himself possibly unlucky in 4 other decision losses.
