Brilliant fight. Yet again another belter when that British title is on the line.

Let's cut to the chase here....Lindsay was being touted for bigger things and no doubt would be moved forward if he beat Simpson. John forgot to read the script again and upset the applecart so I sincerely hope his management and the BBBofC get behind Simpson and make sure he's nominated for an EBU title shot. It's the least this true pro should get following another superb effort.

John Simpson fully deserved his win last night, he is a worthy champion and it is his night so you wont get any bad mouthing coming from my way! Hope he has a good christmas, he deserves it!

As for myself, the surgeon who operated on my hand (Mike Hayton) has just okayed me to start punching again so I will be back in the ring in February! After this I am going for the British Title...same plans as ive always had! Thats the title im chasing. If John decides yo move on for the European then thats up to him but if he doesnt then a rematch between us both would give everyone a chance to settle a score and prove a point! He could try and reverse the result and I will prove that i will beat him a lot easier injury aside

Fair play to you but I think it would be a travesty if John does'nt get a shot at the Euro at least or a world title, to be honest to fight you again would be only for pride. Your are just starting your pro career you have plenty of time, John is now near the end so I think it's finally time to push on!
From your poiint of view would it not be good to get a rematch with the John as the Euro or world champ!

Wasn't taking issue with that but seemed like you were talking as if there was a good chance he could pick up a belt before a rematch. Not to be negative but I see very little chance of that. Not sure he is ranked high enough for a shot anyway.

The Featherweight division is a lot deeper than Superfeather, i'd be very surprised if Simspson got a shot on the back of this victory.

Swifty- your probably referring to my post! I dont for a minute think that your injury is not genuine or that your not a talented fighter. Not many guys could take Simpson that close with your level of experience. I also admire the fact that you immediately offered him a rematch instead of the usual response 'we're looking to push on' after a prospect nicks a contentious decision. Likewise I dont doubt that you would have happily went to Belfast. My point is that just like Appelby, sending you to Belfast would have been crazy at that point in your career. Before last night Lindsay was considered world class. Johnny Nelson said something along these lines after the fight as well. Its not a criticism just an observation of how boxing works. You V Appelby would be a cracking fight, but I'll bet any money at all that one doesnt get made any time soon either! Thats in spite of the fact you'd both take it.

As a huge admirer of Simpson I hope he gets a European shot and earns some decent money now. In all of his previous fights he has been the opponent and has continually been matched with rising stars rather than being treated as one himself. He deserves a push not another make or break domestic clash.

All this is moot anyway because I'm absolutely certain his next fight will be a rematch at the Echo! Great fight but my problem with it is he now has the status to really kick on, but he's back to opponent status if he drops a decision in Liverpool. Its time Simpson was properly guided and looked after. All the goodwill in the world will not pay his bills when he's done.

I hope there isn't a rematch for a while. I think Simpson should move on to European level.

I like good domestic fights, but they should be leading to something. If a fighter beats the best in the country and doesn't try to move on to the next level then what is the point?

I was just trying to say I hope Swifty gets the chance to fight for British title as he missed out on this occasion through his injury, whether John's vacated or not.

I'd also like to see John move onto the Europen scene, just looked and the European Champ looks very beatable on paper. Sofiane Takoucht (link below) hasn't competed in anywhere near the class that Simpson has

I wouldnt for one minute begrudge John a move to European level, I agree he has more than earned it over his career, always in a good fight and fights anyone, I said this even before I fought him. If he moves on or doesnt, my path still remains the same, I want the British Title. If John vacates and moves on, I will go for the vacant title, if he doesnt then I feel it'll be the rematch between myself and him.

On the subject of the European title, I know Sofiane very well, been to loads of tournaments with him and sparred with him a lot...he is a well schooled southpaw but nothing more. I would pick both myself and Simpson to beat him anyway. So if he does move on the fight may be bigger down the line anyway and im sure it will still happen but either way I will chase the British Title first and foremost

i thought Simpson was going to get shafted to high heaven. He didn't. But Steve Collins and at least one of the commentators couldn't stop mentioning how relieved they were that the right man got the (very clear) verdict. Which unfortunately says something bad about boxing.

Simpson's a fcking nightmare and one of my favourite most respected fighters. Champion.....challenger....he just doesn't give a sh*t. If you're a champion and you see his name as your mandatory you must think "oh fcking great!"

I'd love to see him get a big fight. A Euro job or even a shot at a World Title.

Gutted for Lindsay but fair play to Simpson, he finally got a close decision and fully deserved it. Lindsay is just not active enough - 4 fights in nearly two years before the Simpson fight is not good. He looked very rusty and one-dimensional on Wednesday night. In my opinion a boxer at British level should be fighting at least 4 times a year if they want to progress to the top level.

Lyndsay is a tough one to label really. I think what it shows is that the Simpson fight must have taken something out of Appleby. Lyndsay looked pretty poor for all of the rounds (except the "boom" round) against Matthews. Derry was boxing his ears off.... but against Appleby (who gave Simpson a real tough fight and one fight in which I agreed with the decision) he looked superb.

However, Appleby's subsequent performances suggests that the Simpson fight took more out of him than John.

One thing that does frustrate me when it comes to the build up of Simpson fights is that there is always questions of whether he is on the slide or not. What is he, 27? He has years left in him.
