McCullough-Larios II is on Hopkins v Taylor bill

A rematch between the "Pocket Rocket" Wayne McCullough and WBC 122lb champion Oscar Larios is on for July 16 on the Bernard Hopkins-Jermain Taylor superfight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. McCullough, a former WBC bantamweight champion, lost a very entertaining toe-to-toe unanimous decision to Larios in February at the Palace Indian Gaming Center in Lemoore, California.

Unfortunately he probably can't. Shame Wayne never had a bit more power to go with his high workrate and granite chin, but it seems you can't have it all.

I don't care about the scoreline, the last fight was desperately close - I think Wayne will be a little bit better this time (as a result of the last fight, and the extra sharpness he should hav). Also, I think Larios is getting tight at the weight.

I certainly hope so. I wonder if Wayne's adventures at featherweight may have only served to distract from possible success at a more natural lower weight. Not that you can turn down paydays against Naseem Hamed and Scott Harrison, but he was at a natural disadvantage in those fights.

Yet again Guzman is avoided. He pulled out of the Guzman fight in April after the first McCullough fight citing an "injury". So now instead of fighting Guzman he opts for the much easier rematch. The first McCullough fight was supposed to be a warmup fight. Larios sure as hell isn't the No.1 at superbantam anymore thats all know. If the WBC title holder is a Mexican then they can do whatever the fornicate they want.

Somewhat disagree Steve, Yes I would have prefered to have seen a unification fight (without my British boxing hat on). However, you make it sound like McCullough vs Larios 1 was one sided and dull.

This year has seen some fantastic fights, but had Larios vs McCullough 1 been in 2004 I think it would have been the second best fight of that year.

It was a little cracker.

Yeah i suppose i was being somewhat unfair on McCullough as the Larios fight was a good scrap but i really wanted to see a unification, let's hope the winner fights Guzman.

ne one here see the first fight in full? By all accounts it was a close fight but the judges scored it widely for larios. the second fight will probably turn out the same go on wayne mye saaan.........

Yeah Eurosport showed the first fight in full didn't they? It was a nip/tuck battle with McCullough on the end of some overzealous scoring to Larios IMO.

Im glad there is a rematch. the first fight was very good but i cant see anything but a repeat verdict sadly. Wayne still gives it a good go like

I'm tired of hearing about Guzman - he has looked like sh*t his past several fights and he has never really beaten anyone of note (I am also sick of hearing everyone is avoiding him...if he was that da*m good you can't avoid someone forever....all the other greats had big fights.....he has had none).

He needs to put up and until then shut up...
