And there was me thinking all the typical fighter comes from nice middle class families, but I suppose he is the first fighter I have heard of who has done some jail time! You know that fighters don't come from the projects!!

Did BHOP lose his first fight? Regardless, the guy knows how to intimate people, even me going off that YouTube vid. The guy is just purely scary. I'd have hated being in Buncey's boots that night.

FROM WIKIPEDIA:

Background
Born to Bernard Hopkins Jr. and his wife Sue. Bernard grew up in the Raymond Rosey projects with his family. Hopkins turned to crime early in his life, by the age of thirteen he was mugging people and had been stabbed three times. At seventeen Hopkins was sentenced to 18 years in Graterford Prison for nine felonies. While in prison he witnessed rapes and the murder of another inmate in an argument over a pack of cigarettes, but also discovered his passion for boxing. After serving almost five years, Hopkins was released from prison in 1988 and decided to use boxing as an escape from his previous life, and converted to Islam.[1] While leaving the prison for the final time, the warden told Hopkins he'd "see [Hopkins] again when you wind up back here," to which Hopkins replied "I ain't ever coming back here."

Bhop is a master at trying to get under opponents skin. I think Pascal will handle it come fight night but that won't stop Hopkins trying to gain a psychological advantage before the bells rings.

Give Hopkins all the props you want, but these days he's a 1 minute a round fighter who is getting widely outpointed on Saturday, then bitching about it.

How many snorefests has this fellow been involved in FFS? He makes SM-era Eubank seem like Henry Armstrong.

Hopkins is consistently entertaining OUTSIDE the ropes.

He's very inconsistent for thrills inside it unfortunately. He has his moments dont get me wrong, but generally it's watered down with whinging, moaning and falling on the floor.

I have to agree with this. Hopkins is boring as piss to watch these days. If you're going to give him credit for being the master of mindgames, you have to give Calzaghe credit, because Hopkins was looking for a way out in that fight.

He wasn't so boring against Pavlik where he put on a boxing masterclass.

Pascal should be able to outwork the old man though and win on points, maybe even force a late stoppage. Then again, it wouldn't surprise me if B-Hop squeaked it on points, kept going and ended up fighting Evander Holyfield in 2045 to unify every title in world boxing.

Hopkins wasn't looking for a way out at all against Joe. He was buying some time for sure, but as soon as he was warned by the ref the messing about stopped and indeed - Hopkins "won" the rest of the fight.

There is nothing wrong with "gamemanship" if the Ref isn't pulling you up on it and judges should be responding to the ref's call not thinking "oh he wants out, tell you what I'll score the round for the other fighter".

Hopkins' best performance for me in recent(ish) times was against Joppy. However, I think his form post Pavlik has been that of a severely faded fighter.

3 four years ago, this would have been a walk in the park - now I favour Pascal.

Hopkins is a product of a very harsh environment and is a former hood and tough bastard, so things like that are just street-corner japes.

I couldn't believe how much bigger he looked. If he's anywhere near as good as he was against Calzaghe I think he can make it tough for Pascal but would fancy his chances better if he wasn't fighting in Canada.

Pascal on points I think, but Hopkins will do his usual job of making him look pretty ordinary in the process.

Hopkins looks like Bennie Briscoe these days, or Bennie Briscoe looks like Hopkins, depending on how much wine you've had in Philly.
