James degales technique
I rewatched degale against smith and the one thing that stood out aside from the speed, etc is the way degale throws his punches! He has a very weird way of executing the shot,Sometimes its like a slap and sometimes its like a cuffing motion. Is it just me who's noticed this or have you gentleman seen this aswell?
Re: James degales technique
I did notice illegal shots with the inside of his gloves. He's quite unorthadox in his technique, and I don't mean just being a southpaw! I think he'd be tricky to figure out, but interesting to see how much he gets away with in future, Smith was unhappy about low blows etc.

Yeah i agree,as much as degale has natural talent, etc i think his unorthadox style will be his biggest asset as much as anything.Scottrf wrote:I did notice illegal shots with the inside of his gloves. Re: James degales technique
Howard Foster has warned him before about "slapping" with his punches, I forget which fight it was, but he was pulled up about it. Maybe he's trying to emulate another southpaw super middleweight who was accused of slapping!
Anyway, however he punches he did a number on Smith and knocked his head about plenty of times. Smith thinks he can't punch for sh!t but it didn't lool that way to me!

Re: James degales technique
People focus too much on (in my opinion) 'correct technique' when in fact 'effective technique' is what counts - how many textbook perfect fighters have there been that have executed every punch straight from the manual.
If you have fitness, guts, handspeed and stamina - then you have more than most - step forward Mr Degale.

Re: James degales technique
He's in the Calzaghe mold of Southpaws, although when Joe wanted to, he had a lovely right jab. Degales non jab is ugly, he needs to concentrate on throwing it rather than flicking it.
I wonder how effective his Mayweather-esq philly shell defense will be against better quality opposition.

Re: James degales technique
His punch technique reminds me more of Michael Nunn than Joe Calzaghe.
Re: James degales technique
Just watched the fight on utube and yeah his lead is unorthodox. It is a bit like a kick boxer or TKD's lead hand to score points.

Re: James degales technique
What i like about Degale is his ability to move around the ring very quickly, he leaves his opponenets befuddled as they just loose track of where is his...
Re: James degales technique
Yep, that's a good point, can see a bit of Nunn in his style. In a similar manner I get the impression his power is underrated in the same way as Nunn's was, it's all in the timing rather than brute force.stujones wrote:His punch technique reminds me more of Michael Nunn than Joe Calzaghe.

Re: James degales technique
Foster was correct to warn degale for cuffing with the inside of the glove
