Muhammad Ali, Michael Ayers, and a few others have looked about a shot as Bowe did today. He fought like he had Brain Damage, he balance and accuracy was gone - and you could see that in the introduction. He did two big jumps and sort of stopped to re-adjust his feet.
And what was that "Sweet, Sweet, Sweet, Sweet, Sweet" malarky.

Thats what he wants to be called now. I got the fight a feww weeks back and was shocked at how Bowe looked in there. All he could use was his jab and apart of that body shot that floored Zumbrun he threw nothing else of note of that jab.stujones wrote:Muhammad Ali, Michael Ayers, and a few others have looked about a shot as Bowe did today. By the way did you guys notice that Bowe has had the faces of his kids who are tattooed on his back blacked out
My father's first reaction to the INTRODUCTION was "is he a junkie" and I said "possibly, but it is also brain damage". The sparkle from his eye's have gone, he's has aged so much in his face - its sad.
I have to say, I was absolutely disgusted at Steve Holdsworth's claim that Evander Holyfield latterly has only been playing around with boxing. He is a shot fighter, but the effort in the training has been there - that can be seen on the scales. He is not playing, he is trying his best - he just cannot do it. A bad choice of words to describe Holyfield's last efforts.
Bowe is not only shot, but also not trying. He could improve alot through training, but he'll never beat a top 20 fighter.

Maybe Calzaghe just isn't that good after all? Best in a shite division granted but as you say squeezing past the pedestrian Reid, lacklustre against Starie and Thornberry.Chopping Right wrote:Maybe Calzaghe isn't declining, he's just inadvertantly lowering his game to the level of his opponents, something he's done plenty of times in the past. In fact we've been through all this before with Joe, after he beat Eubank and sqeezed past Robin Reid we had some fairly grim struggles with the likes of Rick Thornberry and David Starie. Things were so bad that after he battered Omar Sheika's big mouth shut Calzaghe actually wept tears of relief in the ring because it was his first decent performance in quite a while. I think he'll beat Lacy, and he'll show his best form when his opponent demands it.
Now he's trying to be more exciting he's ragged and open and lot of cuffs and inside of the glove when he throws those flurries of his.
I'd fancy Johnson to beat him at 175, I think he's just outhustle him.
Not sure about Tarver, he doesn't really have the workrate, he'd have to win by stoppage or knockout to beat Calzaghe I think.
Anyway pointless discussing them as I doubt they will happen. Calzaghe is now clamouring for fight in the US, yet 3 or 4 years ago when he was in the comfort zone he blamed his fear of flying as the reason he hadn't been and fought in the US (despite flying over there for a press conference in New York at the time). His excuses have been pretty inconsistent.....

I watched this fight live on the ring and i am convinced of Joes handspeed and punchpower. He was hunting Veit like a chicken. The division is not shit, the LHW is at the moment the worst division. I am sure that Joe would KO Tarver and Johnson in the first rounds. They are nor able to prevent a beating. I don´t see anybody who could beat Joe in LHW at the moment. This is the chance of his lifetime.nickd wrote:Maybe Calzaghe just isn't that good after all? The sad thing is, Bowe is just fighting because it's something to do, and he cannot think of anything else to fill the void. He cannot even be arsed to get himself in decent shape first, waddling into the ring at 280 lbs is pretty dreadful to see. He's going to get battered senseless the first and only time he faces someone who can punch back hard.stujones wrote:My father's first reaction to the INTRODUCTION was "is he a junkie" and I said "possibly, but it is also brain damage". People say Tyson is shot, but Tyson would annihilate Bowe in about 30 seconds if they fought now.

There's no way he knocks out Tarver or Johnson at all never mind in a round. He might be able to outpoint them but I really dont see him having the punch power at 175 to put away those guys.BubiScholz wrote:No, I am serious. Took a look at Bowe v Zumbrun last night. I think we can see just how serious Bowe is about this "comeback" by the 280lb hanging mostly around his waist. Presumably the plan, if there is one, is for Bowe to run up a few years worth of wins over unknowns the way George Foreman did in the late 1980's and gradually work himself into a state of fitness. But Foreman looked a lot sharper than that as a I recall and was knocking these tank-towners out, not splitting decisions with them. It looks like Bowe will get taken by the first sizable and capable boxer he meets, the really daft thing is I understand Bowe doesn't actually need the money, he just wants to fight again.
Or just wants to have a purpose or some meaning in his life? Something to aim for etc?Chopping Right wrote:the really daft thing is I understand Bowe doesn't actually need the money, he just wants to fight again.
The way I see it with some 'old' comebacking fighters is that it is as much a personal identity issue as much as anything else. They dedicate there whole life to being Boxers then say at about 35 they retire. But they still identify themselves as fighters. But they are not fighting anymore and the entire support stucture their lives have been based around has gone, no training, no visits to the gym, no sparring, roadwork, trainers, sparring partners etc etc.
Then they wake up one morning, still a young man and think "What the hell am I going to do with the rest of my life? What is there to get up for in the mornings?"

What has Johnson done at 175? Nothing. I am pretty sure that Calzaghe would have knocked Ottke out who won vs Johnson who was never able to knock Ottke out.nickd wrote:There's no way he knocks out Tarver or Johnson at all never mind in a round. I even pretend that Joe has more punching power than Johnson who was just a better Journeyman and is nowadays hyped because of two wins vs a superdone RJJ and a 36 year old no achiever and verlasting talent.
Knock them out, Joe!!!!!!!
