Lee has a puncher's chance.

But I see him being stopped on his feet round 8 after starting brightly.

I imagine Lee is in for a Norwegian football commentator`s contribution to comedy legend "....one helluva beating"

How does Lee get a shot at Martinez, after his last few opponents were absolute pants?

glad that martinez has an 'event' fight, a good stage on which to perform.

maybe lee can make a fight out of it, due to his size and apparent talent. but it's a massive step up in class. chavez jr might have been a better challenger, as he can at least fight inside. but chavez - with his latin fury PPVs and milking of his dad's name - has more to lose.

glad HBO turned down zbik, a boring fighter albeit a top contender (just about).

hope one of the good middleweight contenders - and there are plenty of 'em (golovkin, njikam, geale, macklin, barker) - will step up. don't want to see martinez deplete himself for one of those catchweights vs someone like cotto, who got thrashed in his last big fight.
Aload of money fighting lee?!Dont get me wrong i know lee will be somewhat of a draw in the u.s with all the irish-americans but i doubt he's big enough of a draw to make serious money again. There isnt a ton of big money fights for martinez at middleweight though,I mean pirog isnt a draw and you have the likes of sturm, etc but they'll never step up and take the fight!

Is this fight on?

Know what you are saying yiddo...this is just the forum where there is a huge belief that Barker-Lee would be a 'mismatch'
I'm not too sure about that as there is a very real possibility that he'll get pasted. Sometimes a fight against a top level fighter can show you where you need to improve, sometimes it can just destroy your confidence

I agree mate...I am working off the basis that I rate Lee highly..as high as Martinez? Certainly not but I believe he will do well!

I can't see Manny sending him to his doom so he must think he is decent enough to put up a good show.As previously stated, this isn't Pavlik-Lockett or Cotto-Jennings(IMO)

Was it so long ago that Martinez was seen as cannon fodder for Williams? I am getting old

It wasn't in relation to this fight, it was ages ago when he was a guest on Bunce's Boxing Hour on Setanta. Frank said Emmanuel would do and say anything for a dollar. I've seen him make the same comments in BM too. I guess he's not high on Steward!

obviously it's no holmes-cooney but with the HBO licence fee and the live gate - provided lee and his irishness make him a draw - martinez should make some money.
the real money for martinez will be vs light middle sized guys probably in catchweights (cotto PPV, perhaps even kirkland and angulo if they return from troubled times) ) and young guns such as chavez jr and saul alvarez (not that he'll be allowed anywhere near him).

re bennie's article - martinez lifted the title from pavlik (not williams), then defended vs williams, destroying him in revenge match.

x2

Doesn't deserve this shot, and if it happens it will be over within six rounds.

Probably due to Martinez' last few opponents not being pants - Cintron, Williams, Pavlik, Williams. He deserves an easier fight next and by definition that means it won't be one of the top guys in the division. Lee makes good business sense I reckon.

If Lee stars in a remake of The Quiet Man, and gives the performance of a lifetime to match that of John Wayne's 1952 performance, he might just get in.

Can someone explain Lee's knockout of Carl Daniels to me? It looks like he catches Daniels with a body shot and yet the American is 'out'.

Not starting or nuffink Bennie but if you watch the slo-mo on that video at 35-37 seconds that right hook clearly lands on the point of the chin, mate. Nice, short inside hook. 44 seconds is even clearer.

You're right. I couldn't watch any more, with Lee's chin going up when he jabs, and Daniels defining the word slow. Another nice Lee match.

Ah Bennie, even a bitter lemon when watered down and sugared can make a sweet lemonade.

If Lee is victorious I'm sure you will be the first to congratulate him.

Your day will come Bennie. Lee is a young fighter, with time and talent on his side. You will eat crow one of these days!

HBO have now turned down both zbik AND lee, apparently.

think hbo should have given martinez a pass after those coupleof heartbreaking decisions that weren't in his favour and after the two outstanding wins that will earn him most pulications' fighter of the year award.
