retirted unbeaten..........but without any significant title

Post by rhino222 »

fighters who, for one reason or another, retired as unbeaten fighters but without winning any significant titles..........perhaps they had the potential to go further but for injury or whatever, their careers were cut short.

come on fellas.......anyone spring to mind...

George kandelaki....?

Not sure if he fits in the topic heading but Ike Ibeabuchi was sent to the slammer unbeaten and never having won a title of any note.

I used to train with a guy called Anthony McFadden - a light-middleweight who was very heavy handed. He quit the sport unbeaten and has done well in business.

Whenever this topic comes up I think of one man....Samson Dutch boy Gym

To go 43-0 (36KOs) makes you wonder why he never fought for a notable title.

Thinking of a boxer of african origin, I think he's a trainer in London now. I think he was a super middleweight.....name begins with "T" I think. Fvck this is going to bug me now...........

Of course I always wonder how far Kevin "Real Hammer" Lear could have gone as well:

Dealing with a prime Gomez the way he did after only 12 fights was impressive. I think he had a bad injury of some sort.

Lear was the first one who sprang to mind for me, think it was a shoulder injury that done him in.

Black panther - you're thinking of Babatunde Ajayi - now known as Tunde - a promising trainer who has worked with Kevin Mitchell and Akaash Bhatia. He was a pro with Eugene Maloney if I remember correctly.

Rhino - McFadden quit after a hard fight with Jimmy Vincent - I think he was a surveyor or something and knew he'd make more money in that field. He was massive for 11 stone and didn't look anything too special but every thudding punch he threw would rattle your head.

I always think of Laszlo Papp, who was unbeaten and close to a world title shot when the Hungarian government lost its nerve.

IMO Papp was the greatest amatuer that ever lived. But because of communism he was prevented from fighting for a world title.

Mark Epton

There was a fighter called Agustin Senin over in Spain who was 42-0-1 but he was also European bantamweight champion - I don't know why he retired. :o

Yeah, would have been good to see how far Mesi could have gone. I still think he could have gone further at the time the scan ended his career.

Lester Jacobs' record was flattering. He was pretty good domestically, but an in-form Delroy Leslie gave him fits and I think that pretty much tells you Lester's level.

Lear was the one that got away IMO. Without the shoulder injury and improved dedication I'm sure he could have become a top tier European level fighter...who knows! He really gave Gomez a spanking when he was really just a very good novice. Shows what potential he had.
