Warren offers multi million £ deal to Khan

Post by dbf »

Warren offering Khan a fight with Kell Brook. Not sure that makes any sense for Khan seeming as it would be up at 147 but would be a good fight none the less....

Promoter allegedly says he has made an undisclosed multi-million dollar offer to his former fighter, WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (presumably through Golden Boy Promotions), to face his young star Kell Brook. Brook has lined himself up for a shot at the WBO welterweight title next year, but wants a fight with Khan first. Warren said, “Kell looked fantastic against Kotey and proved he is ready for the best in the world. Khan was in a hard, but exciting fight against Maidana, and if he’s serious about fighting in Britain next then a fight against Kell would be a logical fight to take. There is talk of him facing Floyd Mayweather which is nonsense and he should take up the big offer I’ve made to him to take on Kell. It’s a huge fight for the British public and one that they would want to see

Multi-million is surely with options? Without options it's a no brainer.

Going from the 450th ranked LMW in the world, and 6th best in Ghana to a World Champion might be a bit quick for Brook.

I have nothing against Warren and wish Brook nothing but success. But to say that against Kotey Brook

"proved he is ready for the best in the world."

and

"If he [Khan] is serious about fighting in Britain next then a fight against Kell would be a logical fight to take."

Is just nonsense.

Cannot see this happening, even though he has a long way to go in establishing himself as the #1 Light Welter in the world. I think Khan is getting in the "elite" leagues in terms of marketing and salability. He's just fought a possibly fight of the year, headlining quite a nice card. He seems to be golden boy's golden boy now.

I think its only going to be fights of high profile globally now for Khan. I'm not saying they'll all be "acid tests" but they will be big fights.

Can see the likes of Juan Diaz being on the horizon.

Would LOVE to see this happen and i think if Khan is wanting a high-profile fight in the UK it's a cracker.

Let's hope Amir signs up. Top marks to FW for making the offer.

Brook is in no way ready for Khan.....he needs to step up against the best in Europe first, never mind the world.

I agree with the first point but not the second.

It's true to say that the Kotey fight did not prove anything we did not know.

However, i cannot see why this would not be a logical match to make if Amir wants to fight in the UK next.(Unless Amir is staying at 140 for the foreseeable.)

If and when Khan does move up, this is a massive fight. I'm pretty sure Kell would take it right now at catchweight, too - say 143 or 144.

Well the British Boxing public would want the fight, and it will definately sell.

The problem is now that Khan believes he is Box Office, would he risk a fight with an unbeaten up and coming pro who at the moment is not Box Office?

I think after his recent fight, and the fact he took a bit of a beating, I personally feel he will take an easy option this time and hand pick a respectable name, but one that he knows he is more than capable of beating.

This is a stupid fight and typical nonsense from Warren. Khan is staying at 140 as he wants the winner of Bradley v Alexander. If he wins that then he'll step up for bigger fights (Berto, Mayweather, etc). If you saw the grins on the mugs of de la hoya and schaefer after the Maidana fight, they aren't in any rush to give up someone as marketable and, crucially, young, as Khan.

Also it's a crap fight for Brook, he's yet to prove himself at European level. He needs to move up in class and prove that he belongs at world title level, then that fight may be interesting.

Take bias out of it and Brook would offer the least resistance of any possible opponent. Would be a wick buck for Amir.

Would be a terrible match up. Brook is not anywhere near ready for such a step up. Why throw him away so early in his career? In an attempt to try and tempt Khan back it seems.

Bit of a weird fight! Brook isn't really on the world stage yet and Khan is a world champion at a very deep weight below, I think Khan should clear out Light-Welter before venturing up to Welterweight because realistically he could still fight Bradley/Alexander winner, Ortiz/Peterson, Judah. I would like to see him fight at least 2 of the names mentioned before moving up.

Well you don't usually move up a weight division unless there's a very good incentive (a title or BIG money) or you're really struggling to make the weight. We've no reason to suspect the latter and in the case of the former I don't think Brook brings the kind of incentive to make it worth stepping up a division, he doesn't have that kind of profile yet. Be interesting to know what the offer is.

Catchweight, maybe but I don't see why they'd bother when I'm sure Khan will sell fighting almost anyone in a homecoming fight in the UK. They would be bending over backward to accommodate Warren and the small percentage of the public that currently know who Kell Brook is.

I don't think it is a very deep weight - perhaps it is because it is Khan (I'm being ironic off course it is no win Khan) but look at the criticisms for the two rumoured opponents.... Apart from the champions - who is out there.

These are what the critics are saying.

Victor Ortiz - drew his last fight, is 1-1-1 in his last 3.

Peterson - drew his last fight.

Judah - Looks shot

And thats it..... no one else is even worth mentioning....

I've seen posts on another site that claim Khan beat Brook twice as amateur and by stoppage too. Is this true?

The offer is just an attempt at getting a bit of publicity for Brook IMO. Fight makes no sense whatsoever for Khan:

1. Massive step down as Brook in world terms is a "nobody". As much as I'm a Brook fan, he's fought no-one of relevance on the world stage.

2.Its at the weight above - why should Khan, a world title holder, have to accommodate Brook?

Gotta love Fwanky boy. He makes me laugh sometimes.

Absolutely not true - although Khan did box another Sheffield kid, nicky smedley, and I think he stopped him (tho could be wrong).

exactamundo!

Warren's no fool, he knows there is zero chance of this fight happening.

Just using Khan's name to raise the profile of his fighter.
