Fury: ‘Haye the weakest champion’
Posted on Dec 16, 2010

Heavyweight prospect Tyson Fury has branded David Haye the ‘weakest champion’ in the division ahead of his Quebec outing on the undercard of Pascal vs Hopkins this weekend.

Fury, who has just returned from a training camp with IBF, IBO and WBO king Wladimir Klitschko, ripped into Haye for his performance against Audley Harrison and desire to hang up his gloves before his 31st birthday.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Fury said, ‘I need a few more fights, but I’m on Haye’s tail. He’s the one I’m thinking of because he’s the weakest champion.

‘The fight with Harrison was terrible. But Haye was as scared as Harrison to throw a punch. He is terrified of a big man. Any big man who isn’t scared of Haye will give him problems.

‘When you’re world champion you don’t keep saying you’re going to retire. I’m a fighting man. If I’m world champion, I’m going to defend my title until I can’t walk – never mind quitting.

‘When does a champion say he’s going to retire? He’s only just won the title.’

---------------------------------------------------------
People gave Big Aud stick for saying he was going to get a world title fight - but he actually went out and got one.

Fury is just plain demented! The guy is yet to prove he's amongst the best on the domestic scene - i'd wager money he isnt, why start talking crap about a world champion, who everyone in the entire world, apart from fury and his dad, know would destroy him under 3 rounds.

Why doesnt he start calling out guys like warmachine, price, dallas or chisora. In fact why doesnt he call out Harrison.

Hayes scarred of big guys - yeah like valuev.

I'd understand if Fury was destroying the opposition but he struggled to beat Mcdermott in the first fight, what honestly goes on in his head.

Fury needs to shut-up. He cried after a few rounds with McDermott in the rematch.

Fury is just a pain in the backside, god knows why he gets so much publicity when Froch is in the same stable

I'd like to see him in with Big Larry or Price or Sexton. Any of these guys beat him, and comfortably.

His name is Tyson Fury. It was amazing how much hype he had even for his first fight on the Froch vs Pascal undercard.

It was more than his name though - his name attracts headlines, but can remember Bunce and all hyping him up as something fantastic as an amateur.

Yeah it probably is, he won the ABA's, but they also must know the name attracts attention and is memorable.

First time I heard of him was at Trent Arena and you could tell by the build up that they thought he was going places.

The man can't even summon up the dedication to whip himself into proper fighting shape and show the discipline to follow a proper training routine yet has the nerve to question Haye's level of commitment?! :o :o
Haye would do Fury in a round without breaking sweat.

To be fair to him, he's just seen one of the most over rated heavyweights ever get gifted a world title shot by Haye just because of a bit of mouth and hype and then he see's Derek Chisora an unproven heavyweight whos beat Sam Sexton not exactly a world beater in a good fight get offered a world title fight with Wlad. Why shouldn't he try a bit of mouth to try and geta title shot, it seems to work nowdays.

The other thing people are forgetting is that he has been training with the Klits so this could well be a bit of clever publicity.

Although his dedication and power seem to have been in question recently, he has now got a good trainer and added with good sparing he could still become a very good heavyweight, he is after all very very young. There is no evidence that he would lose to Price, War Machine or Sexton and in fact there's probably more to suggest that he would beat them at this moment in time.

And like it's already been pointed out Haye is the weakest heavyweight world champion at the moment, unless of course he beats either of the Klits.

I know, he was awful on that night and completely out of shape. Blamed it on being on honeymoon 2 weeks before the fight but still hasn't shifted the excess.

If he doesn't take on one of the top domestic heavies in his next outing then it shows he/his team lack confidence in his ability

Wasn't he fighting a blown up old Middleweight? If I remember correctly he was balding and was giving away a few feet in height.

EDIT: His stats make him bigger than I remember.

He's overweight and has a big mouth. There is talent there but it's hidden beneath a ton of fat.

And he shows his mentality by stating he wants to go after the weakest champion rather than the toughest test.

He's deluded. He should fight Audley.....hopefully they'll KO each other and retire.

Haye would smash him, so would Larry

I agree with your start. Controversial statements do get you noticed more. Haye is the weakest champ, nobody can deny that, but it the total lack of respect from Fury which has got people talking about him again. To be honest, it's not his previous fights that gets people tuned in to watch him is it? Nobody wants to see a big knackered fat guy throwing arm punches at another fat guy a foot shorter than him. It's statements like these, together with a name like Tyson Fury that gets him more coverage than an Olympic bronze medalist.

I'd say there isn't much evidence that he would beat Price, Larry or Sexton. I'd say that Price's victory over him in the ams together with him looking like a boxer who can throw proper punches with stamina to go past 3 rounds and not start to flag - means he'd start as a massive favourite with most people. Him verses Larry would be a shoot out and I'd say it's pretty clear who has the most power in that fight.

Yeah I think Price would start off favourite but Fury has so far achieved more in the pro's than Price and there must be a reason why they're not stepping him up quickly. With regards to the other fights I would say that my money would go on Larry and Sexton to win if Fury's fitness levels were of what they've been recently but if Fury got into shape and that is a big if he would or at least should be a match for anyone in the heavyweight division.

I do believe in the valid excuse that if you're not being matched competitveley then your motivation will clearly suffer and I think that is what happens with Fury, considering he has proved he can be fit enough to go 12 rounds when the challenge is there.

I reckon the bookies would have Fury as favourite just because he's better known. They're not usually too switched on for these kind of fights

fury say's what everyone is thinking :!:

david haye ran up an escalator with his own media circus to confront wlad into facing him like a desperate man. now he has A strap he is being a buisness man. it's embarrassing that the world champ has to call him out for him to back it up, while he acts like a bratt with his new toy.

Fury did call out those fighters but then Chisora and Frank offered Fury a fight with no options and Fury turned it down saying he was fighting in the USA. He then ended up fighting in the York Hall I believe.

As others have said. Fury hasn't even proved himself to be best in Britain yet. We have so many British Heavyweights he could fight. Sprott, Skelton, Chisora, Sexton, Price, Dallas, Rogan, Larry and the list goes on... Until he can beat a couple of the names listed. He's no where near a world title shot.

We have offered Fury the David Price fight but have hear nothing back from his team, We are happy to seat down with Mick or Matchroom (who have been working with Mick H.) and work out a deal that can work for both sides . the only people stopping this fight is Team fury.

yeah i agree. but the poster wrote "why doesnt he call out the likes of.......etc" and i was just pointing out that he actually does. Whether he'll beat them is another matter.
