after a big win against a shot/faded jeff lacy this chaps now rated top 25 by this site, do you reckon it would be a good fight for DeGale? his record doesnt suggest to much., or is it a bit to soon at the moment?

I would much rather see DeGale defend his British title.

Smith isn't good, Lacy is just very shot. Smith has lost to every decent fighter he has faced and notice his recent draw with Joe McCreedy. Degale would beat him without too many problems. Smith also has 0 name recogniton and the 19 losses on his record will make the casual observor think he is a bum.

surely the win would give him a decent ranking though after Smith's win over Lacy, irrespective of how shot the yank was anyway.

I think people should let him defend his British a few more times before going of to the states and getting himself in line for a title shot, he did look great against Smith but still showed he still had a wee bitty to learn before he's ready to win world titles. I would suggest maybe Quigley or David someone at British level to give him more experience and sharpen his skills before moving on. He's some talent though!

Lacy wasn't ranked by any of the sanctioning bodies, so the win won't do much for Smith in terms of his alphabet position. In boxing community it is well known Lacy has been done for ages, so I don't think Smith's win will elevate him into a meaninful spot in any independant rankings.

I wasn't actually suggesting he give up his British belt, i have previously said i think he should go in with Groves next to put a stop to the questions on the domestic scene.... I just dont think he should spend the whole of next year there. I feel it is far more beneficial to start fighting global opponents to test the waters on different styles and atmospheres. Still think that Smith would be a good name to have on the record after the Lacy win.... regardless of how "shot" Lacy is now.

Agreed Funtime, It would be a good fight to get his name sort of out there in the US and I to want to see him clear put domestically before moving on.

It would be a crap fight and a complete waste of time. Few people would care that he beat some American journeyman.
