Exclusive Martin Murray interview - Wants Macklin.
Exclusive Martin Murray interview - Wants Macklin.
My first post! I hope its a good one.
I interviewed Martin Murray this weekend and he wasn't shy in sharing his thoughts on Matthew Macklin in particular. Martin is keen to get a move on and surely we'd all rather see these domestic fights than the kind of European opponent Macklin has been facing recently? Here's the link. Hope you enjoy it!

I think he would beat Macklin, and IMO the fight woluld be similar (though probably less dramatic!) than Macklin's war with Jamie Moore.
Murray is a talent and MM has looked lacklustre of late, would be a great match-up

Murray is solid but doesnt do anything special dont think he has shown anything to suggest he could beat Macklin at this stage

macklin gunna be world champ
Re: Exclusive Martin Murray interview - Wants Macklin.
Sorry but I think macklin and barker destroy murray he is so basic
Re: Exclusive Martin Murray interview - Wants Macklin.
Murray is far from basic!!! Boxing is basic things done correct and yes he has solid basic's but his defence has become very advanced with his slipping and sliding and also his offence has such as his switching attack head and body or vice versa as good as Jamie Moore's offence.simonsays wrote:Sorry but I think macklin and barker destroy murray he is so basic
I have sparred Martin from when he first turned pro and the improvement is unbelievable to the point where he is becoming very hard work for any fighter in the gym from light-middles to heavyweights!!! In sparing no matter what you throw at him he comes back with a longer faster combo just keeps coming back like Jason out of Friday the 13th!! His fitness is 2nd to none if he gets it together on the night any opponent is in trouble!! Credit to Oliver great coach and guy!!

i would like to see martin murray in a step-up fight before he gets the likes of Macklin and Barker
if my man Darren McDermott was still boxing he would be perfect.
someone like Danny Butler maybe?

Re: Exclusive Martin Murray interview - Wants Macklin.
The problem alot of people dont realise is they are struggling to match Martin and have been for a long time, Butler is just awkward and makes anyone look bad and Darren would be a better fight but Martin would be way too much no disrespect to Darren!! Martin needs a step up like an ex world champ on the slide but still a good fighter for example Roman Karmazin???
Re: Exclusive Martin Murray interview - Wants Macklin.
I can understand it might be hard to get that step up fight from here as Macklin/Barker at the moment are both looking onwards and upwards. I dont know if Elcock has retired or not but somebody like that would be a good gauge for Murray imo.

i don't know if he ever officially retired but as far as I know Elcock is now fully engaged with promoting boxing among Birmingham's youth. I doubt you would get him into the ring now.
Re: Exclusive Martin Murray interview - Wants Macklin.
Cheers for clearing that up he is a bit in no mans land at the moment maybe defend his commonwealth belt agaisnt domestic opposition for another 2 fights and keep busy and see where he stands hopefully Barker/Macklin will have sorted itself by then and if not he should at least be in a position to be nominated for the British title.Counter-puncher wrote:i don't know if he ever officially retired but as far as I know Elcock is now fully engaged with promoting boxing among Birmingham's youth. Re: Exclusive Martin Murray interview - Wants Macklin.
Hatton was largely basic but didn't stop him from winning world titles in a packed division. Macklin gets marked up too much to withstand too many punches from Murray and he hasn't got the mentallitally to punch and move and I don't think he has the moves to either. Barker may well give Murray more problems because he seems as though he has the abillity to move out of the way of punches more and I think that's why Murray is after Macklin more than Barker.simonsays wrote:Sorry but I think macklin and barker destroy murray he is so basic
Whatever happens I think its a good domestic division again or at least it should be by the end of 2011.
Re: Exclusive Martin Murray interview - Wants Macklin.
I rate Murray, he would definitely give Macklin a real fight.
The only reason i am so unsure who would win is because Murray hasnt really fought anyone of any note.
Would love to see Murray in with Barker or Macklin.

Murray needs to step up his opposition. Wouldn't stand a chance with Macklin at the moment IMO

Re: Exclusive Martin Murray interview - Wants Macklin.
Macklin would beat him like a ginger stepson if they were to meet now - too experienced and battle hardened for Murray I reckon.
Cant see it happening any time soon either, with Macklin looking to position himself for a world title shot in the near future.
Who knows, in 18 months if Macklin is on the way back down and Murray is more experienced it could be a good un.

Re: Exclusive Martin Murray interview - Wants Macklin.
I agree in essence that a fighter ought to step-up and that better opposition will prepare him more affectively for a title shot.simonsays wrote:AgreedInsider wrote:Murray needs to step up his opposition. Wouldn't stand a chance with Macklin at the moment IMO
But it doesnt equate that because Murray hasnt really stepped up, he isnt capable of beating Macklin, particularly when Macklin has looked so poor in recent contests. Degale v Smith comes to mind, as an example of this.
Murray would definitely stand a chance. He's a good fighter, whilst Macklin is not exceptional.
Re: Exclusive Martin Murray interview - Wants Macklin.
umm - I think its a good little bout. Before I would have like to have seen Murray just have a few more bouts under his belt building up to Macklin. He's not got his man strength yet, but Macklin hasn't looked anything special himself recently. Perhaps overated cause of his blow out over Asikanen (a notorolously slow starter).
I would still see Macklin as the favourite, but I think its a competitive fight now and maybe 12 months down the road - say 3 solid Commonwealth defences, then we might be really giving Murray a solid chance.
