mmm...... I know Mosley vs Pacquiao is almost set - but I believe GBP don't want this fight and Mosley has done the deal privately.

I just wonder if that the match HBO really want is Martinez vs Pacquiao.

S'weird innit, that HBO seems to feel the same level of antipathy for Martinez (a flashy, marketable fighter when matched correctly & genuine world champion) that Bennie here feels for Lee or slapbangwhallop feels for objectivity.

He is a Hispanic who isn't Mexican or Puerto Rican. Being Argentinian means apathy amongst the tv bigshots in the United States and thats why he tried his luck first in Madrid and he only moved out to California when he won a world title.

The great Carlos Monzon only defended his world title once in the United States, he fought mostly out of France as world champion. The money isn't in boxing in continental Europe like it used to be in the 1970s so thats out for Martinez.

I reckon Martinez would be a bigger hit in Europe than USA, didn't he base himself in Spain for a few years around the time he fought Williams and Stone?

The problem with Spain is that the national braodcaster TVE (Television Espanola) banned boxing in the 1980s from their channels which killed the sport off there. Once upon a time, boxing was huge in Spain where fighters like Miguel Velasquez, Pedro Carrasco, Perico Fernandez and Jose Urtain used to fill out bullrings and were national heroes. We are not talking long ago - the late 1960s to the late 1970s. Boxing has died something of a death in Spain so it wasn't a wise move for Martinez. He would have probably got his shot a lot sooner if he he just moved out to the states in the first place.

I do believe SBW said "if" Andy Lee beats Martinez, not "when" Andy Lee beats Martinez. What's so blinkered about that statement?

Because it is like saying what if Estonia beat Brazil in the 2014 world cup final? That is what is so blinkered. :TU:

Yes the world "if", SBW never once said Lee is favourite to best Martinez. It was an hypothetical question :TU:

Yes, but is a daft one - we could all ask hypothetical questions except sometimes there are some hypothetical questions that can be ridiculed... let me give you an example of a few...

What if Estonia beat Brazil in the world cup in 2014
What if Gaelic became a world language
What if Peter Andre stopped talking about Jordan for once, would carlos-wigan return home from China?
What if Emma showed us a picture of her in a bikini, would we all realise Kell Brook's real potential?
What if DG apologized...

And so on and so on. :TU:

English teacher at a Chinese university. Looking to move back to England to complete a MA TESOL in a couple of years but might have to spend a year in Saudi Arabia to fund the MA TESOL. I will then probably go back to Asia - More than likely Malaysia.

Seems like you answered your daft hypothetical question yourself. :TU:

Yes, but you seemed to take the question out of context and fail to mention the bit where Peter Andre shuts up about Jordan in public - fail, fail, fail and fail again Fergus! :TU:

HBO could have let martinez slap zbik around in order to keep his nWBC title. if martinez gets stripped he'll still be champ - lineal, ring mag, and that's enough for the networks and the hardcore fans - yet it will give the middleweight contenders yet another opportunity to take an easier route to a world title, which will undoubtedly get stripped from the argentinean. already they're on about chavez jr v zbik and no doubt THEY will have the vacant title in mind. chavez jr would have been a marketable opponent for martinez.

dibella says the shotlist is lee, zbik and dzinziruk. the only gy who would get approved by HBO is dzinziruk, a classy and precise southpaw who has held the WBO title at 154 for years - without a defining win. but dzinziruk has some kind of deal with US promoter gary shaw to fight for a goodminimum on showtime, apparently. martinez and dibella's words on the subject were that dzin doesn't "make sense" because dzin would get little more to face martinez than he was earning in an easy stateside debut vs daniel dawson. martinez v szin would be avery credible matchup, between two champs who are master boxers. the good thing is that dzin's money fight, vs mayorga, never ended up happening. is dzin going to fight the daniel dawsons on showtime into his late '30s or is he going to take a risk, a calculated risk that could boost his standing even in defeat (as martinezes first fight with paul williams did), without even risking his own world title belt?

HBO seem to match martinez like a showtime fighter. but it brings the best out of him.

If Martinez is looking elsewhere Andy should try get Vera fight back on the table. Between Wladimir and Martinez, Andy has seen two good opportunties missed.

Keep up the momentum Andy. :TU:

I really do not want to be another poster who ridicules this post, as it does ask a simple question. And in answer to that question, my answer would be 'No'.

However, it is such a big ask that I cannot possibly see Lee winning this fight. He would be befuddled , pummelled and ultimately lose a lopsided decision or get stops, on his feet late.

But I digress. :TU:
