Lenny Daws “My New Year's resolution is to win the Lonsdale belt outright”
LONDON (December 24th, 2010) - The current British Light Welterweight Champion Lightening Lenny Daws new year's resolution will be to join the elite crop of boxers including the likes of Carl Froch, Lennox Lewis and Sir Henry Cooper by winning the prestigious Lonsdale belt outright when he defends his title against the American based Londoner Ashley “Treasure” Theophane at Wembley Arena on the 5th February 2011.
Daws’ who is coming off a good win against Steve Williams, believes he has the strength, fitness and work rate to beat Theophane.
“I have had a look at a few of his fights and I was ringside for his last fight against Willie Thompson. He's an experienced, good boxer, nice mover, good on his feet and has mixed with some top class fighters, but my style has all of the attributes, strength, fitness, pressure and work rate to beat this guy and within the distance”
Lenny isn’t relishing the training over Christmas but knows how important this fight is to him. “Training over the Christmas period is never easy or enjoyable for any boxer, there’s always the extra temptation like a sneaky mince pie or two, but I’m focused on beating him and securing the British belt outright.”
“This is what I have always wanted then I can start thinking about a European or World title challenge later in the year.”added Lenny.

Jeez, with all due respect I think fat Mick and co have far overestimated the popularity of the fighters on the card. At least with Wembley Arena you can curtain most of it off easily, and just have the boxing in one corner so it won't look that bad. But how many tickets are they expecting to sell? Word of advice to anyone who goes, buy the cheapest ticket and I'd be shocked if you don't get upgraded on the night.hitman_hatton1 wrote:wembley arena.

Despite that, it does look a good card-the main events both look decent. I suppose Barker is only gonna be fighting a bum though.

Daws, a strong, relentless fighter from Morden, faces the slick, busy Theophane in one of those rare 'trade' encounters. Daws, 21-1-2 (9) is proving a good champion after two successful defences while Theophane, 28-4-1 (7), enjoys plenty of American experience, having travelled in recent years, although the Kilburn stylist is not a banger and might be tight at 10 stone. With both men arguably right at their peak, this one is hard to call, but I lean towards the popular Daws and his ability to finish 12-rounders strongly.
O'Donnell came through a desperately close 12-rounder with Watson last year at York Hall but failed to push on afterwards, and Watson looks to have the edge this time with some hard-hitting displays in recent months that indicate real improvement.

Well,one of Barker's fans on here(i forget who) insisted Darren had shifted 4,000 tickets for the Macklin bout.I know this fight wont be of that status but Wembley is a lot closer to Barnet than Birmingham.We shall see.

I think FW said it was 1500 he had sold, there was a big empty block which looked about that size

Nah he said in an interveiw with the local birmingham paper that hed done 4000 himself which i found unusual at the time then some one here backed it up saying thats what barker was bringing

Barker got allocated 4k for the macklin fight they were all exspected to sell.
