I remember a few years ago Spencer Oliver went round meeting some trainers and did some work with them, i.e. padwork, groundwork etc. There was a good one with Jim McDonnell where he took him running on the hills. Maybe that could be resurrected but with other characters from the game included.

What about a fans debate in the studio on the topic of the week?

I'm all for a bit of nubile, certainly doesn't hurt the UFC broadcasts. Quick shot of a fitty climbing out of the ring after she's done her stuff, give her a name, quick kiss blown to the camera, job done. Needn't impact on the cornerwork, I'm talking minimal, subliminal T&A, it works. They have to be fit though - and they should be the same girls every week, employed by Sky not promoters (as should the ring announcer) - make them characters like the UFC has, standardisation of format = brand familiarity.

i know what u mean glyn. Ufc have made a star of that girl hairiearnie who whatever her name is. Shes done playboy since and also done loads of ufc marketing and p events , she gets the photographers interested without detracting from the product..

The "celebrity ringcard girl" was an idea the ufc stole from the uks own cage rage promotion. Cage rage had a couple of stunning brunettes who had a big following and have been featured in magazines. I know they are now available for freelance work since gary shaw killed cagerage. Get them on board.

Ed can you ask johhny to speak into his microphone more, its difficult to understand his lisping voice at times especially when he doesnt speak into his microphone.also can we have a lloyd honeyghan interview, and a michael watson interview? I also agree carl froch needs to be mentioned. Bunce always had the integrity to talk just as much about sky fighters when he was on setanta as he did setanta fighters.

Last thing i think the set could be improved on.....the same posters on the wall grate a little.

KOTV makes me want to KO the TV, its so frustrating with their bitty highlights. They've got the rights to the show, so show the fight.

I would like to see Ringside show more action. Like in the days of old, maybe show a couple of fights that didn't make the Saturday night fight broadcast - or some other action. Not sure how much it would cost to get delayed action from Europe, Asia or the states. I'm not necessarily talking about the big fights (although that would be great) but Telefutura etc.

Again comparing to UFC I think an "ultimate fighter" Type idea would work. Obviously the contender was a small success but an "ultimate boxer" idea would be good even of it was done with hand picked amateurs or well known pro's. Could give the winner a guaranteed 4 fight sky contract for example. Let the public vote for who fights, or draw the fights on ringside and add the fight onto a Saturday fight night card??

Anyone think this would work?
It would just be a better version of contender with a bigger captive audience and more advertisement potential.
By letting the public vote your guaranteeing them seeing the fights they wanna see therefor guaranteeing viewing figures for the Saturday night card.

Ringside is a great show.

Building on a point made earlier I'd like to see a feature about the boxing scene in many of the UK's cities.

For example if you did a feature on Sheffield you could look at the gyms of Ingles, Rhodes, Coldwell and Hobson's influence as well as the Institute of Sport etc.

You could get a Johnny Nelson to do Sheffield, Jamies Moore do Manchester, and loads of other interesting places like Liverpool, Birmingham, London, Belfast and many others.

Each city has such a diverse and interesting story to tell and each city has its own identity and history.

Keep up the good work Ringside, best show on Sky by a country mile!

Soccer AM's team mates concept was interesting and maybe could be modified for boxing. Maybe get a trainer (IE Rob Mc Cracken) that trains or has trained many fighters in his time and ask him a few questions about who is the best trainer, worst trainer, biggest moaner etc.

Hi Ed,
It's been great having ringside back on. The more boxing the better. Would like to see more highlights of the undercards. I have a couple of boxers who I think will challenge for titles in 2011,so I'll throw their names in the hat for new year show.Unbeaten Lightweight prizefighter champion Ryan Brawley has been out with injury for 6 months but back boxing for Scottish title in January . Lightmiddle weight Kris Carslaw has just won the British masters title stopping Terry Carruthers in 3 rounds. Kris is unbeaten and improving with every fight. I tip both to win domestic honours in 2011.

I'd like us to follow the American lead and disregard the alphabets and refer only to linear champions.

I've often complained about Sky's coverage of boxing over on ESB, but in the last six months they've really bucked their ideas up..... still work to be done though.

Get Froch on - no excuses. Britain's best fighter should be on Britain's best channel, and be the highest paid.
Give Warren more dates - rather than PPV's every few months.
Force Maloney to make better matches - we've all had enough of Mismatch Maloney and his trafficking racket.
Get rid of the Commonwealth title - it's had it's day.
Demand better undercards - a generic one this, rather than prospect vs journeyman we need some prospect vs prospect fights.

Those are my five wishes for 2011.

Keep up the good work, if the rate of improvement stays the same through 2011 I'll be delighted in 12 months time.

I know Carslaw personally, would be good to see him making a name for himself. Doesn't drink etc. Keeps in good nick all year round as a boxer should and had a good record as a kick boxer. Hopefully he gets some time on sky and raises his profile.

Carlos-Wigan - do you watch KO TV? They seem to pick up lots of far flung delayed coverage every week. Always worth recording.

Glyn, on a serious note regarding the girls, I think the snag as with most things would be costs - travel, hotels, wages...Money that could be spent on a more elaborate ring walk or another camera angle or ringside guest. The truth is that the girls supplied by the promoters are very hit and miss, the best are dressed to advertise the gentlemen's club who are helping to sponsor the event.

Bigmark - agreed - the Olympic set up is really interesting and it's time for the pro scene to start knowing who to watch out for in London. I've got lots of time for the way that Steve Bunce always pushes the amateur side of the game.

If you do a Prospects show Ed a piece about the Olympic set up would fit in nicely. I have always been a fan and supporter of Bunce so i would love to see him make an appearence once in a while be it in the studio adding to the debate (dont give him any coffee before the shot) or doing a piece out of studio. The guy is boxing through & through and as you said his pushing / highlighting of the Amateur game is

bunce is a character & he allway's bring's a smile to my face. id love to see fan's phone in an argue a topic v bunce or a head to head in the studio, buncey can waffle the hind leg's of a horse off D i bet there arent many who could win against him

really enjoyed the return of Ringside and it's great to see the editorial staff browsing the fans' forums for honest feedback.

in terms of 11 for 2011 features, i would pick two kids from Wincobank (of course!) - Richard Towers (of whom much has been written already, see other threads!) and Abul Awad (Kid Galahad). There's a lot less been written about this kid but he's a real prospect and regularly spars Junior and Kell open as well as having sparred very well away from home against Rhys Roberts, Scott Quigg and El Maachi (I believe). Both kids are unbeaten and in that category Ed mentioned ie approaching title class in the not too distant future.

by the way, the only reason i've been biased and picked two kids from our gym is because i havent seen enough of the other sub-10 fights kids out there. i'm sure there's a lot of top prospects coming through to pick from (Liam Cameron is another one that springs to mind and so is that big puncher that Dave has got over at Rotherham, Jerome Wilson)
