LOUIE BYRD MAY TURN PRO SOONER RATHER THEN LATER

Post by byrdman66 »

:box: I Have talk w/ may son and yes this is something we have to look at Long and hard///// the Next 6 mounth are going to be intesting: With USA Boxing moving the USA Nationals ... to accommodate WSB// to me the writing in on the wall, We have a lot of good Athletes that going to be Bummed off the Olympic Dream////

This what I understand about what is going on w/ USA BOXING / WSB ..... Let say you 73kg (USA TEAMS ) Win the WSB championships// he has the option to take the 152lbs or take the 165lbs IN the OLYMPICS dose not say the he would have do any Kind of box-off for that Slot// That is what i know know because USA BOXING or WSB (AIBA) is not explaining it to anyone that I No one about..
If there something that someone can tell me different... it would help...

Jeff - Louie is one of our medal hopefuls so I hope that the USAB/WSB crap doesn't cause him to turn pro before the Olympic Trials. I believe a Federal judge will decide how the USA Olympic Boxing Team will be selected.

As I have stated in another thread, if the U.S. boxers involved in the WSB win individual championships, the idea of other Olympic Trials qualified boxers moving up or down weight classes is ridiculous. You could (doubtful though) have a situation where every individual championship is won by a U.S. boxer. Rau'shee Warren is currently ranked #3 in the WSB at 119#. Eric Fowler is currently ranked #1 at 134#. Russell Lamour is currently ranked #3 at 161#, Dorian Anthony is currently ranked #12 at 187#, and Donovan Dennis is currently ranked #7 at 201+ pounds. If that happens, then Warren could select 123, Fowler 132, Lamour 165, Anthony 201 and Dennis 201+. That would mean every U.S. boxer qualified for the trials in those weight classes would have to move up or down in a matter of a month or so. So all you super-heavies and heavies, you better become anorexic as you will have to make 178# which will have lots of competition as you would have the middleweights moving up too. The poor featherweights and lightweights would have to move up to 141 or cut off some appendages and go down to 114. Good luck.

Don't start planning the weight loss or weight gain program just yet as the WSB boxers don't have to tell anyone of their plans until June so Warren could say 114, Fowler 141, Lamour 152, Anthony 178 and Dennis 201. Then all the light-heavies and heavies have to pig out at the dinner table and become super heavies or just not eat for 30 days to try to make middleweight.

Hello Jeff. My name is Jason, I'm friends with Miguels coach and he talks highly about you and Louie. A few things he told me was that they should just give louie the olympic spot cause no one is going to beat him and the a lot of new guys coming out of the JOs have tried to beat louie and the fall short and a hand full of older boxers have also tried and they all have failed so that's why he said to give him the Olympic spot. The other thing he said is that Louie has his heart on the olympics and that you and louie deserves it more then anyone, that louie is a small guy but has the presents of a man 10 feet tall.
With all that said I must ask you. How can the wsb afect Louie, the lowest weight class in the wsb is 119 so I can't see anyone taking the 108 spot from him ' NO ONE ' in my eyes the 108 is in the clear from the unfairness of the wsb and the one's 114 and up are the one's that might see the bulls@@@ of the wsb.. On a side note I think usa boxing, aiba, wsb and the whole BOD are all full of sh@@!

Dennis do you anticipate a legal challenge by someone being effected by the new WSB Olympic Qualifying process. I remember a long time ago Todd Foster was awarded an Olympic spot (something had happened with Terrell Finger from St. Louis). Terrell Finger and his coach sued USA boxing and won, they eventually made them have a box off. The I.O.C and USA boxing still has to give every athlete the same equal opportunity to make the Olympic team. Just because an athlete decided not to join the WSB should not disqualify him from making the olympics. Correct me if im wrong but wouldnt the law protect an athlete in this situation..

Oh, yes. I definitely anticipate a legal challenge. In my scenarios, how can you expect a 250+ pound boxer to reduce his weight down to 178 or even 201 for that matter? The WSB champs should be sort of an At Large team at the Olympics and not take away spots from their National Federations' boxers.

The other challenge will come from a non-WSB pro boxer who wants a chance at the Olympics. How can the IOC, AIBA, USOC and USAB say that pros from the WSB can compete, but not some guy who is making chump change in the pros? Maybe Golden Boy will sue to allow Frankie Gomez to compete in the Olympics.

I didnt really think about existing pros litigating to compete, may very well happen though.. I think the strongest argument is that every single competitor has to ( per the Olympic Comittee, USA boxing, their own by laws) has to be given the same opportunity to make the Olympic team. I think a strong argument could be made that new rules with WSB are not fair. To eliminate all the boxers in an entire weight class because they did not compete in the WSB, I honestly dont see how they can pull it off. AIBA may be all powerful in amateur boxing, but I bet a court in the U.S. will have final say..

Another concern is that AIBA owns 75% of the WSB and has a financial incentive for the WSB champs and other WSB boxers who qualify for the Olympics to do well in the Olympics.

i really don't think there will be such a problem . I don't think these fighters have that great a chance of winning. The fighters on the US teams are not the best that the U.S. have to offer. If you haven't noticed all of the fighters from other countries are their best . all are national champs or olympians. Once it goes international it will all change and no one can help our poor fighters. Most of these kids have never fought international before.

NEED YOUR HELP ATHLETE

ATHLETE have the most power: So come ATHLETE let step up and FIGHT FOR YOU RIGHT TO COMPLETE IN THE OLYMPICS:
THE DREAM START NOW>>>>>>>

The athletes must contact their athlete representatives on the BOD and USOC ACC along with their USOC ombudsman John Ruger and be adamant about wanting them to prevent athletes from having their opportunity to compete to acheive their Olympic Dream threatened. John Ruger' number is 1-888 ATHLETE.

That is not the piont if We has Coaches and ATHLETES allow this to happen, then what we are saying to the ATHLETES that are the grass roots of USA BOXING that you can train but A U.S.A. WSB Champion can take your spot/. So Why work so hard to just get the Olympic Dream just taken away w/ No kind of box-off ... I have watched the WSB //// I agree there not that good.. I turn it off.. Some of them boxer are so out of shape..

Rau'shee Warren is a 2-time Olympian and 2007 World Championships Gold Medalist and currently ranked #1 in the U.S. He has a decent chance of winning the individual title. Other USA boxers in the WSB do have international experience too and many are or were ranked in the top 5 in the U.S. They include Cam Thompson (currently #1), Javier Torres (currently #8, formerly #2), Terrell Gausha (formerly #1), Robert Brant (currently #2, formerly #1), Javonta Charles, Ernie Garza, Olympian Raynell Williams, Siju Shabazz (currently #2, formerly #1), Donovan Dennis, Paul Koon and Craig Lewis. I think everyone of those boxers had at least 1 international bout prior to joining the WSB. So I wouldn't say that they aren't experienced as most USA boxers have very few international bouts and I wouldn't say that they aren't some of the best the USA has to offer either since most are top-ranked boxers. They may not all be #1, but some are.

What dose Louie's weight have to do with turn PRO , what USA Boxing is doing, Me and Louie are just getting tried of USA Boxing BULL SH@@ That is going on... If we stick around,,, weight is not the issue.. . If atheletes allow this to happen/ then they get what they deserve.... With USA BOXING it is no longer about the Athelete it is about the MONEY.. The grass root will be lost....

PS. Louie as no problem make 108// Maybe it just time to get out USA BOXING...

Jeff-

I completely understand how you feel but hope that you and Louie will make the decision to stick around. Trials and the Olympic Games are so close and despite the USAB nonsense, being an Olympian is a huge honor and is something that will stay with him throughout his career and life. The pro side will be there whether he turns pro tomorrow or in late 2012 but the opportunity to compete in the Olympics won't.
