According to boxrec, Jamie McDonnell now defends his European bantamweight title against the Belgian Stephane Jamoye in Doncaster on January 22.
McDonnell had been linked to Spanish puncher Ivan Pozo on the night, and previously a Swiss contender by the name of Benjamin Pitteloud. Maybe these boys are looking at Jamie's recent form and deciding against it. The tall Doncaster man has won his last seven fights since dropping a tight decision to Lee Haskins in 2008 - five of them early, including a memorable 10-round stoppage of Jerome Arnould in France to lift the EBU belt earlier this year. He pounded on Italy's outgunned Rodrigo Bracco in his first defence in Doncaster in the summer (three rounds).
McDonnell is getting better all the time at just 24, and he hits hard, although Jamoye looks like he can whack himself, having stopped his last four victims. The stocky challenger comes off an excellent 11-round stoppage of Spain's previously unbeaten Giovanni Jaramillo for the EU bantamweight belt, which earned him this shot, and in 20 outings has lost only to unbeaten Japanese fighter Tomoki Kameda on a 10-round split decision in Mexico. Clearly, the 21-year-old Jamoye is no mug and we can expect him to provide stern resistance on the night, but McDonnell, roared on by his home fans, looks the man most likely to come through.

Apparently he should have gotten the decision against Kameda in Mexico. I had never heard of him before that fight, but looking at his record, he seems like a decent opponent. McDonnell has a huge size advantage though, and based on his recent form, I expect him to win this.

Here is an article on Jamoye and a video of his last fight. This was actually the first time I have seen Jamoye fight. He looks bigger than 5'2". His opponent is listed at 5'4" but Jamoye is clearly a couple of inches taller.
