Steve Murray was a horrible puncher; his left hand was something else; Stephen Oates was another good lad around that time; he was heavy handed as well. Do you remember Shaun Gray, Tommy? He was my outright idol as an amateur though was a couple of years older maybe.

Yes i do remember Shaun Gray think he was from west ham..only see him a couple of times,he got his oppenents out very quickley..Im not sure if i read on here a while back he passed away??

Yes, Shaun Gray boxed for West Ham. He was brilliant as a junior and he really knew what he was doing; very sportsmanslike as well; there was no moaning when if he lost. Cheers Tommy; I was no good at the boxing; how far did you get in the schoolboys?

I was no good,never got passed the regionals

Which hand did he get you with Jeff? Was he generally to powerful or were his punches sharp? was he fast with it or well schooled in disguising his shots? Would be genuinely interested to hear; I remember reading an interview with Stephen Oates and he said Murrays' jab felt like a right hand. Murray looked big for a lightweight to me but there must have been something more than brute strength to him.

Left hook on the left side of my head as I slipped to the right- weird one. Got up but it was the only time I went down properly where i'd not had a choice or been off balance. Was a nice bloke- i'd just hurt him with an uppercut when he caught me. He was extremely strong - I think he was a tree surgeon that probably helped.

I've seen Scott box on TV a few times and also live on site and i was impressed. He shows patience and poise beyond his experience, and is clinical when it comes time to finish a fight. When he opens up he's genuinely eye catching with that extra touch of class.
I covered one of his earlier fights for The13thRound and i remember in my writeup saying there were shades of a young DelaHoya about him. Now that might be high raise indeed considering the fighter Oscar went onto become. And of course Quigg is only a prospect at this point, but style wise i definitely see some likeness there.
