Marciano v Ali (the one that did happen)

Post by Chopping Right »

I remember reading somewhere that in the late sixties a TV company actually filmed a Rocky Marciano v Muhammad Ali "fight". Apparently they filmed lots of staged shots and the like and then somehow put it together into a film that showed the two guys fighting with the "fight" having two outcomes to allow each guy to win. Has anyone ever seen this bizarre piece of boxing history, I believe it's pretty bad and it was a struggle to keep Ali from knocking Rocky's toupee off.

...i saw it ..and it is a stinker. it had scenes of each fighter boxing in style they never used.....marciano in a ridiculous crouch..as if he was looking for his contact lenses....and ali doing moves he never did...and not doing moves he did. neither fighter is supposed to know how it came out until it was shown....but marciano died before it was released...so he didn't know he knocked out ali in the 13th round. there is some doubt about that last statement....he supposedly told friends he knew he won by kayo....but i don't have any documentation for that.

the film was supposed to have shown only once and then destroyed...but of course that didn't happen.

as an indication of how phoney it was....in some showings were ali was highly popular....ali won!

The toupee was ridiculous, but marciano did take the "fight" seriously and worked hard to get into reasonable condition.

ali said marciano hit him hard and his arms were sore. however i wouldn't take this as a cliue as to how a real match would go because before the rope-a-dope days ali seldom used his arms to block a punch...he used body movement.

Yeah, haha jaclem i heard they shown versions in other countries or w/e of ali winning. I never saw the match cause i wasnt born but was the fantasy fight really overated???

another thing about this was rocky and ali became very close. ALi said he became closer iwth Marciano than any other white fighter and marciano found he genuily liked ali. ALi never talked about marciano because he really respected him. Its funny how too completely different fighters and personalitys and life styles can get along.

Didn't this same computer simulation also have Jim Jefferies KO'ing Ali?

kojoe...no..the ali/marciano "fight" in question was not connected with any other. it was a one shot. also, it was acted out in the ring by the two principals....not just a computer simulation.

...hmmmm..so the one you saw was a draw. in the first..and supposedly only...theatre showing marciano won by a kayo in the 13th...coming from behind. they must have used walcott match one as the model. as i've written, i some places ali won. it was actually a scam from the start.

i'm interested in where and when you saw it.
