The database has Drake Thadzi as Canadian lightheavyweight champion at one point! He was not born in Canada, nor did he ever live there as far as I know. He did fight the Canadian champ and win, but I doubt he took the title.
ALso Mike McTigue, the light heavyweight champion who beat Siki for the title, is listed to have won the Canadian Light heavyweight title in the database. Yet he was not born there, lived there, or is at all Canadian as far as I know.
I think some one might have listed these fights as for the Canadian title because the Canadian champ was fighting. But I don't think it was for the Canadian title.
ANy one know what the deal is? Did these guys really win the light heavyweight Canadian title? Are they more Canadian than I know?
I don't know about the two bouts you are specifically asking about, but I once raised a query regarding the Doc Snell-Vic Foley bout for the Canadian Bantamweight Title. The newspaper source I was using explicitly said it was for the title (but Snell came in overweight anyway.) Snell wasn't Canadian, and the bout took place in the United States. Mike DeLisa explained that, in the "old days," these factors were not that unusual. I have even found at least one case where and American went to Australia and fought for an Australian title. I need to check my old records but I do seem to recall that Drake Thadzi was "billed as" being out of somewhere in Nova Scotia for several years actually, so it's quite possible that he fought for the Canadian title.
Hey guys, you notice there is a lot of years between some of these Canadian title fights? SOme times there is years where there was no champ. Other times there is years between a champion defending his crown. Is this another database incorrection, or what?
