Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
I always like to see a boxer get hit hard and recover or at least come through a difficult patch before they got to World Title level. Brook hasn't been hit hard yet and has had things pretty much all his way. He is talented and powerful but that he's not been pushed is more to do with matchmaking. I thought that Jennings would give him a real go but he didn't really get going and then the bout was over. All the stuff with Khan is just for publicity; Khan is proving himself at the top of his weight division; I'm not at all convinced that if a similar fighter to Brook did not have such skillfull matchmaking and a powerful promoter they'd be in the same spot.
Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
Agree with this, if you are fit its easy to avoid being hit cos I've achieved it easily myself lol.....the skill I most admire is to be far away such that you can avoid being hit, but close enough to land a shot.....Jennings was too far away IMO and thus I didn't feel it was a positive attempt based on what I saw.danfoster wrote:have to completely disagree with you there mate.Jeff Thomas wrote:I have no interest whatsoever in this fight- he should give Jennings a rematch for a start because I thought Mick was well on his way to winning that fight.
how can Jennings have shown he was on his way to winning the fight when he didnt even win a round? Jennings was steadfastly refusing to engage Kell and proved again that he is a good, tricky boxer and so succeeded in throwing Kell's timing off somewhat. However, although he may have continued to frustrate Kell and make him look poor, i really cant see how he could have gone from there to actually taking the positive steps necessary to win the fight.
The post about 'Jennings on his way to winning the fight' is laughable really
Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
does anyone know if that really is Kell Brook on Twitter? now he's calling out Malignaggi. I find it hard to believe.
Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
yeah I agree, but if it is really him I'm just a bit surprised at how he's going about it. shouldn't his promoter/manager be trying to make these fights instead of doing it himself on Twitter...?sg1985 wrote:That is a fight he should be after. Saul Alverez is a coming up star too, another fight he should be looking to, he's ranked 3rd by the WBO too.

Alvarez is far to much of a risk for FW. He wont be wanting Kell to lose that 0 yet.sg1985 wrote:Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant. I thought you were criticising him for calling him out. It isn't really the best way to go about it, but it's the way things are going, we're getting direct quotes from boxers now, it's interesting IMO. Saul Alverez must be an easy fight to make for Warren, both are ranked by the WBO.greenyox3 wrote:yeah I agree, but if it is really him I'm just a bit surprised at how he's going about it. shouldn't his promoter/manager be trying to make these fights instead of doing it himself on Twitter...?sg1985 wrote: That is a fight he should be after. Malignaggi would be a great yardstick fight and Kell should be able to bully him in the ring with the size difference, i mean Paulie was pretty small at 140. The only downfall is that he has become something of a banger at 147 (tongue firmly in cheek)

Who's Brooks biggest win? I've only caught the last three or so fights...
Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
couldn't agree more (about the direct quotes thing), I love it!sg1985 wrote:Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant. I thought you were criticising him for calling him out. not sure GBP will want to put Alvarez in with Brook at this stage though. He's shaping up to be their golden goose, and while they're building his Mexican/Hispanic-American following I don't think they'll want to risk him against someone as dangerous as Brook.
Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
Alvarez is a cash cow. Golden Boy won't be risking him against Brook. I doubt it's a fight that can be made right now.

I cant see him taking it against Alvarez. He's big and powerful at the weight, and Brooks chin has not been tested at all yet.sg1985 wrote:It's definitely a fight that can be made. I honestly do think we'll end up seeing Brook vs Malignaggi , failing that i'd like to see him tested against Senchenko maybe.

Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
To be fair to brook,in wanting to fight khan is he punching above his weight any more so than khan is in wanting to fight mayweather??
Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
Do really think Golden Boy would be so confident? Alvarez is a star in Mexico. Brook would have to go to Mexico or the USA and beat him. I can't see both sides agreeing on a deal any time soon.sg1985 wrote:It's definitely a fight that can be made. They're both ranked 1st and 3rd with the WBO. Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
That seems like a contradiction in terms. If it was easy to make then they'd make it. It's not easy to make because neither party wants the fight.sg1985 wrote:I don't think it will be made. I just think it's an easy fight to make.
Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
If it's simple to make then why won't it happen?sg1985 wrote:Not really. I don't think it will be made. But there is nothing to stop it being made. They are both ranked by the WBO. Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
That's exactly why it's not simple to make, because both sides would block it. That's the whole point.sg1985 wrote:If both sides want it would this not be an obvious fight and be simple to make? its fairly obvious the point he is making.

Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
the fight won't be made because Alvarez is a rising start with some profile and Brook is a nobody as far as the US is concerned. Apart from beating Mick Jennings with a cut from his laces, there's not one single decent name on Brooks' CV and he's got no chance of landing a fight with a name American until he makes some noise beating someone with some pedigree instead of the bums he's been handed on a plate so far
Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
The yanks don't want Brook because he's nobody, Warren doesn't want Alvarez because lets face it Brook would be slaughtered.
Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
Brook would beat him, IMO.banjo wrote:The yanks don't want Brook because he's nobody, Warren doesn't want Alvarez because lets face it Brook would be slaughtered.
Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
I've not seen any evidence from Brook to suggest that he can, Alvarez has recently well beaten a former world welterweight champion and a former light welterweight titlist, Brook hasn't faced an opponent anywhere near that level, Brook is talented no doubt and IMO could go on to big things but if he and Alvarez were to meet in their next fight, I know who my money would be on and it wouldn't be Brook.
Also isn't Alvarez campaigning at Light Middleweight now?

This. Canelo has an awful defence but punches very hard indeed.banjo wrote:I've not seen any evidence from Brook to suggest that he can, Alvarez has recently well beaten a former world welterweight champion and a former light welterweight titlist, Brook hasn't faced an opponent anywhere near that level, Brook is talented no doubt and IMO could go on to big things but if he and Alvarez were to meet in their next fight, I know who my money would be on and it wouldn't be Brook.

I want to see Brook fighting someone with a pulse & a dig before I'd put him in with Alvarez. Also, as Banjo said Alvarez is fecking huge for the weight, I don't think he could make welter these days.

The thing is it is starting to get in the papers and these dopey sportswriters are beleiving the hype.
Amir Khan would stop Brook without much fuss at all.
Brook would be lucky to walk out of the ring against Pacman.
Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
Yes, we're talking about potential, of course. Brook backers simply can't win any argument until he fights someone decent.banjo wrote:I've not seen any evidence from Brook to suggest that he can, Alvarez has recently well beaten a former world welterweight champion and a former light welterweight titlist, Brook hasn't faced an opponent anywhere near that level, Brook is talented no doubt and IMO could go on to big things but if he and Alvarez were to meet in their next fight, I know who my money would be on and it wouldn't be Brook.
Re Alvarez though, he's obviously decent - I wouldn't get carried away with victories over Baldomir (though the stoppage element is very impressive) and N'Dou.

I think 2011 is the year we finally see if Brook can fulfil the potential he has shown. I don't see the sense in Khan fighting him at this point - surely its a bigger fight down the road.

Re: Brook tauts 'chinless' khan
Kell's acting like an absolute whopper.
Direct Messages Khan on twitter to say that he hasn't been slagging him off and it's all the press and then starts calling out Paulie M on Twitter and saying that Khan is running from him. Embarrassing behaviour.
I keep saying it but he needs to step up and fight someone of value before he starts giving it the big one. He owes Jennings a rematch for a start and then maybe he should be aiming at Matthew Hatton (even though that's not a major challenge).
British Welterweight scene isn't that hot but he needs to try and get in the ring with some of the up and coming Americans if he wants to get in the mix, but fighting the 6th best Welterweight in Ghana and blathering on about fighting Khan, Pac etc is just making him look stupid.
It's not like he's disposing of the bums he's been fighting in spectacular style or showing any sort of charisma or "x factor" like we've already seen from DeGale. It was obvious that Naz was a star after about 6 fights so apart from being from Sheffield and the Ingle camp , christ knows where those comparisons come from.
Too many fighters think that talking the talk is the way to promote themselves nowadays. Groves and Brook 2 of the worst for speaking a good game and then throwing out domestic level performances.
