THE PRICE IS NOT RIGHT FOR PRICE

Post by FtmPress »

PRICE SENDS SOS TO BRITISH HEAVYWEIGHTS
FRANK MALONEY has pleaded with any top British heavyweight to step up and face Olympic bronze medallist David Price.
Maloney is ready to fast track the 6ft 8in Liverpool boxer into world class this year, but wants his hopeful to mop up the best in Britain first.
Price, unbeaten in nine professional fights returns to action at Brentwood Centre on Saturday February 5 and hopes a top class domestic opponent will be in the opposing corner.
Among those approached to face the 27-year-old hopeful were Tyson Fury, Audley Harrison, John McDermott, Larry Olubamiwo, Martin Rogan, Sam Sexton, Michael Sprott and Matt Skelton.
Maloney explained: “Skelton took the job, but has since been sent to prison and the only other boxers to offer encouragement were Sam Sexton and John McDermott.
“An offer was made to Sam’s promoter on Sunday, but he wants to get a win first and it is the same with John.
“Big Larry turned down the job when I promoted him, Sprott is waiting for a bigger offer for another fight, while Harrison and Rogan don’t want to know either.
“An offer were made to Fury, but I haven't heard back.
“The heavyweight scene is wide open and this time next year, Pricey could be very close to a world title shot.
“David Haye is retiring in October and it would be no surprise if this was also the final year for Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko.”
The only name Britons Maloney hasn't approached is WBA heavyweight holder title David Haye and British and Commonwealth champion Dereck Chisora.
Maloney added: “Haye obviously has the Klitschkos to worry about and is adamant he’ll pack up in October.
“Chisora is also hopeful of a world title fight soon, but if that doesn’t come off we would take Del boy in a heart beat.”
Heading the Brentwood bill which is being televised live by Sky Sports is Sam Webb (17-1) who defends his British light-middleweight title against hard-hitting Bradley Pryce (31-8).
A super-flyweight contest sees recent British flyweight title challenge Ashley Sexton (9-0-1) box former British bantamweight title holder Martin Power (21-6)
Tickets for the show priced £30 and £55 are available from 0871 226 1508 and www.frankmaloney.com

Looks like Frank has got a very difficult job matchmaking price, hopefully Sexton and McD will get themselves active asap or Sprott will take the drop down to fight promising novices.

In todays market they have be offered good money i believe but everyone has different ideas about money but a couple of there reps have said thats good money we will get back to you. I know what some fighters have taken to fight other olymipc and is more than that.

Shouldn't he be looking for a British title eliminator or making Price the mandatory for the English title?

Fury got made the English title's mandatory challenger after about the same amount of fights as Price has had.

I have no idea how much but the problem is all those offered are either prospects or "names" who probably either dont see the risk reward or value themselves slightly higher. Sprott for example would be perfect but he probably realises that holding out will be more profitable atm.

I expect it would cost £7500-£10000? to get this kind of opposition at heavy for an Olympian on a televised show as a supporting bout?

the scene stinks of a lack of ambition to me. There's a great big hole in the domestic heavy scene and imminently there will be on the World scene too. Hasn't Glenn McCrory got a heavyweight in Newcastle somewhere? I think he does but he isn't British.

It does, they all spout off about being the best of the bunch but most of them don't seem to fancy putting their money where their mouth is. One especially

as little as that ??? id have thought it would be twice that but of course im not in the know , no wonder they dont want to fight him if theres a risk of them getting beat for such money , its a business and of course means the money has to be right so frank might have to go fishing around europe for someone with a good record but softly matched , they might be more tempted by the money , i get the impression british fighters tend to cost more than their european counterparts in general

how about Mazykin http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer
i reckon hed be an ideal opponent , been in with some descent guys but lost to them all , no pushover but someone id expect a guy like price to deal with , and id have thought hed take lower cash than the top brits , he won the biggers better tournament recently , beating britains Lee kellet along the way .

How about Paolo Vidoz? he's lost 4 in a row, but has enough about him to extend Price and give him a bit of a test at a higher level.

vidoz wouldnt stand a chance against price , hes looked really poor of late , time to call it a day i think for him , at this stage id have danny williams to beat vidoz and we all know how hed declined before he retired , maybe thats what frank wants but i just think hed come to survive and price dont really need that at this stage , he needs people to at least have a go , let him use his defence and throw counters etc , try to solve new problems

Vidoz announced his retirement after the loss to Pulev, but I suppose a decent payday may create second thoughts.

At least Vidoz is a name. Beating Vidoz means something, battering some bum no one has ever heard of means nothing.

If you believe this you'll believe anything.

Maloney ought to have been moving Price on way earlier instead of having him in with pregnant opponents and stiffs that shouldn't have had a licence to box here.

Fury has had 12/13 fights and already has wins over several half decent domestic opponents, including two over McDermott and a shut out win over a good journeyman in Zack Page.

Does he really think that nobody wants to fight an Olympic medallist? Obviously I can't speak for the fighters but surely they ought to be chomping at the bit, especially given the lack of a decent test so far.
