Re: Braehmer v Shumanov cancelled - not good for Cleverly
really frustrating, Clev not too impressive in last fight and he really needs that defining next level fight IMHO right now to make sure his motivation is 100%. Not sure what they'll do to keep him busy now, he's not going to get near Pascal/Hopkins/Cloud/Dawson so he's going to be stuck waiting for these 2... maybe a showdown with Bomber!!!!
Re: Braehmer v Shumanov cancelled - not good for Cleverly
So he fought for the vacant interim WBO title, to go with the Vacant British, Commonwealth and European titles he collected.
Looks like his next fight will be the Vacant world title proper - full set!

Would be a great fight but FW won't risk him v Bomber, both coming off less than impressive performances. Won't do much for their stock, unless one destroys the other...

Re: Braehmer v Shumanov cancelled - not good for Cleverly
ha ha ha yes indeed...did have my tongue in cheek when i mentioned it but at the same time Clev is going to end up needing an opponent that means something at least to him...and it would make for a great domestic dust up! Smith v DeGale was similarly risky in a way with Paul in the running for a shot at European/World titles before that fight and DeGale the golden goose as far as FW concerned...I guess it would be down to the fighters forcing it to happen in the absence of any other meaningful fights for them!Captain Hook wrote:Would be a great fight but FW won't risk him v Bomber, both coming off less than impressive performances. Bomber of course could make do with a crack at the British title - but for Clev where does he look for an opponent that gets the juices flowing?

Cleverly is the interim WBO champion. He would just get upgraded to full champion rather than have to fight for the vacant title, wouldn't he?stujones wrote:So he fought for the vacant interim WBO title, to go with the Vacant British, Commonwealth and European titles he collected.

will the title be vacant if Braehmer has pulled out of this fight through illness and simply reschedules it for later in the year?Horse wrote:Cleverly is the interim WBO champion. In that sort of situation they normally sanction a contest with the top two boxing each other for the interim title.
In this case they will just keep it as-is, I'd imagine.

Nice to get personal with the response, class that.
I'm just getting increasingly frustrated of promoters, and its not just of Clev, not being able to secure (or not desiring) to secure fights with defending champions.
Take our celebrated Carl Froch, two time world champion, hasn't beaten a defending world champion yet. Look at how many vacant European title fights were shown on Sky last year.
As for my achievements, patience my friend - I'll bump this thread in 18 months time. Unfortunately, for about 90% of the forum (I would guess) the in ring achievements of 99% of British pro fighters is superior to ours - so if we want to start comparing with ourselves it would be impossible to mention anything negative about any fighter and actually very little point of discussion cause it will be all "oh fantastic, well done". Lets all hail Tony Booth cause he's done a hell of alot better than us. Lets not be critical of Audley's effort against Haye - we wouldn't have done any better and he's achieved alot more than us as a pro.

Not personal at all Stu, you are having a go at a boxer who has boxed everyone put before him and as a fan you will know that the majority of titles are won nowadays through VACANT belts as people move on up the ranks relinguishing their titles on the way. Have you had a go at Bomber for picking up vacant belts vacated by Clev? I can't be bothered going through old threads to see if you have.
And for the record you may well have been a boxer with a glittering career for all I know that won every belt the good old fashioned way and defended them umteen times?
Happy New Year

Same to you, well I appologise for getting the wrong end of it. Seemed like you were making a reference to me cause of my frustration with the Clev situation. I never thought it was Clev fault, although I will be honest, I do sometimes wonder if his promoter has as much faith in him he potrays.taffytoon wrote:Not personal at all Stu, you are having a go at a boxer who has boxed everyone put before him and as a fan you will know that the majority of titles are won nowadays through VACANT belts as people move on up the ranks relinguishing their titles on the way. Sure, there are more and more titles becoming vacant, but off the top of my head I cannot think of any who has the full set. I've never insunated it is Clev's fault or that Clev isn't worthy of being called a European champion (I'm still reserved to label him a world champion yet) - Murat was a perfectly acceptable EBU title fight. Showed he is well in EBU level and probably will go on to world honours. However, it is frustrating that he cannot beat a defending champion - not his fault... but frustrating nonetheless. As I said, I wonder how much faith his promoter has in him - why didn't he make some injunction to stop Brahmer fighting in the Unification - I'm sure if the roles were reversed there would be some injunction.
If Bellew's path follows Clev then I will be frustrated also. I don't mind the odd title, I didn't complain when Clev won his Commonwealth title - but it is frustrating that his team cannot secure a fight with a defending champion.
And naturally I didn't have a glittering pro career - but I didn't claim to be a world champion. My achievement that I hope to get isn't boxing related.
Re: Braehmer v Shumanov cancelled - not good for Cleverly
Well I wish you all the luck in the world on whatever you choose to do buddy.
Re: Braehmer v Shumanov cancelled - not good for Cleverly
What is this obsession with a protected fighter's skanky WBO title anyway ? I watched Hugo Garay tonk Braehmer for 12 rounds and take his WBA title off him (he was later put away in a round by Henry).
EBU affords a top ranking with the WBC aka Jean Pascal. A far bigger and more satisfying opportunity.
I'd try and bring a faded Roy Jones over for him - because feasting on what there is at 175lb within Europe... well Clev will go hungry fast, because there isn't anything out here. Everyone is stateside.
