Agreed its not a great match-up but cinco de Mayo weekend is nailed into the diary these days - so nailed in the various wives, girlfriends, kids etc cant complain. Pac late stoppage I suspect as the punishment gets too much for a slowing sugar Shane.

I do sometimes pay for tickets (but equally I'm happy to take corporate seats....)
When you say free tickets is this through the hotel as in when they do offers for the fight ie book a hotel room and get a free ticket for a fight because i have been wondering whether it would be worth emailing a the hotel to say im coming on a stag with 10 mates and we would like to book rooms but can we get free tickets to the fight. I have heard that often a very high proportion of the gate in vegas is through the casino offering free tickets this way
He gets them through his job. The filthy swine.

You could try e-mailing the MGM Grand, it won't hurt.

However GBP run the venue for their fights instead of the casino company. Typically the company will pay a site fee to the Promoter and keep all ticket sales. Whereas GBP rent the venue and keep all of the ticket sales, although note sure what happens with merchandise and food/drink sales.

MGM Mirage usually have an allocation of 25% of tickets for themselves (roughly 4500) and HBO gets another 25%. MGM usually allocate these to the big gamblers to get them to spend their money in the casino as well as people who have rented their villas.

Loynsey is in a better position to know bout this so hopefully he will comment.

Good luck.

The reason i ask about ringing up the hotel is because i got these figures a bit ago from the scene about attendance and how many pay for entry for recent fights

Darchinyan vs Agbeko - 11,772 attended, 757 paid.
Berto vs Quintana - 3,508 attended, 972 paid.
Williams vs Cintron - 3,653 attended, 2,442 paid.

On another forum i was told by a poster this obviously i dont know how much of this is true

This past weekend’s attendance was announced at 4,632. But that was buoyed by the fact that the Mandalay Bay offered free tickets to the fight AND a comped room. And this wasn’t an offer made just to their big players but folks, like a friend of mine, who hadn’t stayed there in a few years. And as he took up the offer, without provocation, his tickets were automatically upgraded from $150 to the $350 level

About eight of the male cast of Corrie walked past a few rows in front and, presumably with reference to Ashley, one of the lads piped up too loudly, "Here, there's that bender from Coronation Street!"

The actors all heard but didn't know whether to laugh or act hard (which would have been a grave error).
I was on a course a while ago with someone who grew up in the same area as Ashley (I say Ashley) and he reckoned he was abit of a hard bastard and was in fights regularly due to his voice
He boxed as a youth, even fought Michael Brodie. He knows his stuff and used to be on Seconds Out on Channel M now and again.

The guy who plays Liam will be about 14 years old.It was Carl who barked during the intro.

When I saw this thread I would have bet my house Loynesy was lurking on here. And there you go, his first shout is David Beckham was sat BEHIND him or some other sh1te.

Even more galling is he was probably paid to be there in case some rich Yank needed emergency legal aid at ringside

Ashley and a couple of the other lads from Corrie were all on the piss in the Old Town in Albufeira for the 2004 Euro Championships standing on chairs singing German Bombers and the like. Wouldn't say they were "hard lads" but they were a good crack.

Back on topic saw the Doctor from Lost at the Mayweather/Hatton fight.

A-list celebs all the way for me!! :TU:

Em gives a pretty good summary. There are two factors which will determine whether you get comps - firstly how big is the event, and secondly how important (or perceived importance) you are to the persons with the power to give out comps.

If the fight is nowhere near sold out and you are staying in the hotel that is hosting the fight or one of its affiliate hotels (there are effectively two main hotel groups in Vegas, the MGM Group and Harrahs) in a better than standard room, it can be relatively easy to either get a free ticket or far more likely, buy a cheap ticket and then be upgraded to a much better one.

For a Pac fight, I'd never say never, but unless you are a major high-roller or have good connections with one of the fight sponsors or HBO, I'd be surprised if you got a freebie - doesn't hurt to ask though.

Gary Linekar at Eubank/Watson II he confessed he knew nowt about boxing (obviously a freebie) and tried to start waffling about the goal he scored earlier on in the day before he got cut off. Twat.

Gene Hackman seemed to be a a few big fights and well into it., Leonard/Hagler, Chavez/Taylor..

My personal fave was Calzaghe/Hopkins when Joe gave Bhop some prison lovin Stallone jumped up in the background apoplectic at what he was witnessing.
