Tom Cowler v George Rodel

Post by lamphey »

The Tom Cowler v George Rodel result on 1911-12-28 is incorrect.

http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=011652

Cowler won the fight - it was Rodel who was disqualified in the 6th round according to the report in "Boxing" Jan 6, 1912.

Also, for completeness, the fight was scheduled for 20 rounds.

Stuart, the Cowler-Rodel report is in a bound volume making it awkward to scan and with the fragility of the paper I don't want to mess around with it.

If I can find another way, I will certainly send you a copy.

We have a bout between Cowler and Jack Daniels on his record, can anyone tell me where Daniels came from. It appears a Jack Daniels fought Freddie Welsh and Georges Carpentier, not sure if it is the same person, can anyone help?

Stu, as this thread has risen to the top again, did you receive the report of the Cowler/Rodel fight I e-mailed to you?

Lamphey,

Would you have Boxing from around 17th May 1913, looking for the hometown of Jack Daniels who fought Hirst on the 17th May 1913

I wouldn't be to sure about there being two.

Bently said he was a Heavy, but i think he fought around the lights as well.

Fred Welsh fought a JD too yes bit of a puzzle, more research needed no doubt.

I have a Jack Daniels(London) v Harry Jones (Cardiff) Aug 11th 1911

The report of the Hirst fight doesn't list Daniels' hometown. But Daniels fought regularly at The Ring and other reports have him fighting out of St.George's in the East End.

Almost certainly, the Daniels who fought Joe Hirst and Freddie Welsh are the same person.
