Yes i agree with you liam, the thing is john simpson simply didnt turn up that night against stephen and it was still very close many thought john won but the judges never thats what matters :TU:
He didnt turn up? :witzend: He had every advantage in his favour! In my first 12 rounder, first live fight, I was cut by a clash of heads, snapped my left hand in the 4th, boxed in Glasgow in front of a very vocal hostile crowd, fought John when he was in the form of his life, going in on the back of 3 stoppage wins! All this in my 11th fight! Yet he didnt turn up? I won the fight and will be 100% better again next time round too believe me. Ive never bad mouthed John, he had a great night in Belfast, I was first to congratulate him and he deserved everything he got, he has never dodged anyone. Since then, ive sat back and said nothing, now my hands better and im back, if John moves on to European then good luck to him, he deserves it, if he doesnt then the rematch with me is one a lot will want to see im sure! If he is the best in Europe then he will have no quarms in proving it and winning a Commonwealth Title back along the way! From my point of view, its a chance for me to prove im the best in Britain and beating John again will certainly stake my claim :TU:
It was a great win especially for your 11th fight- hope the rematch comes off. Thought the fight was going to be a better spectacle then it turned out to be- a bit like Simpsons fight with Appleby.Hopefully the rematch will be a better fight. Two top class champions fighting each other for titles- great way to start 2011.

Lyndsey was horrifically one-demensional against Simpson. I would fancy Simpson to beat Lyndsey 10/10 from now on. Perhaps it would be a good plan for Simpson to fight Lyndsey again then Smith.

Yeah I agree, the fight weren't as good as expected, largely down to myself, having injured my hand i smothered up close rather than stand and fight with john when i knew i was limited to one hand. The rematch should be a better fight for the fans and a good fight with there being two titles on the line :TU:

Is a rematch of this likely to be in Liverpool then if it's arranged??
Could top a bill itself I reckon.

Smith showed tremendous character first time round against Simpson. Fighting up there with all that against him and then busting his hand mid-fight would have had many people looking for a way out. He didn't and toughed it out. Glad he did as well as had a fortune on him at 11/10! Re-match would be a cracker but I see Smith prevailing again with a bit to spare this time. He really is a special talent and a good laugh as well. Met him once when I was down watching Brad Saunders in a GB v Romania match in London. Had a nobble with the British lads and woke up the next morning in a GB hotel room with full GB/ABA tracksuit on. I then went for breakfast (still steaming) and began shadow boxing and asking the barmaid if she wanted my autograph as I was about to "uproot to L.A to follow my dreams." She only asked for it as well.

Proabably aided you in a funny sort of way standing and trading with Simpson wouldn't be a wise move the guy is a machine. I won't deny it he's one of my favourite fighters. All the best in the future Stephen definately going places regardless of the Simpson rematch happening.

I disagree with this i think Stephen was forced to lunge in with his right on the inside without the use of his left and it made him look a bit wild and let it down a bit as a spectacle. I dont think John would especially fancy trading with Smith either as a few times i felt that Simpson was hurt a bit and was made a bit wary but was able to get inside Smith and use his experience to work him there because Smith lost the use of his jab and as a result was forced to smother

Simpson v Smith was a close fight. There are many who felt the result was a fair reflection and those who felt it was not. I watched on telly and thought that Simpson had won by a couple of rounds. Given that Smith had injured his hand early on the best thing any of us can hope for is a rematch; hopefully with more money for both of them.

Does any body know if there has been a date set for the Simpson v Lindsey rematch?

I have been trying to find some information on it but haven't had any luck so far.

I take nothing away from Stephen smith and agree that he is a tremendous talent. To fighthat way under the circumstances was impressive. Despite that I did have Simpson winning by two. I also fully agree with billy and have said a number of times that it was a poor performance from john. People don't realise this but john left Danny lee his lifelong trainer and close friend after the smith fight. He felt billy would give him a more aggressive free flowing style. I've always felt a problem for Simpson was standing in the pocket too long and not getting his shots off quickly. Consequently he lost close rounds that he had the ability to make clear. Against lindsay under billys guidance Simpson tore up the punch stats and won a fight he would have lost in the past. Imo nelson understands what needs to be done with Simpson. I also really admire smith attitude to the reach, most in his position wouldn't touch it!

Aye maybe you should watch the fight again then maybe you would have the respect to spell Martin LINDSAY'S name right. Martin does not make excuses for himself, neither will I but I and anyone who has followed him over the years know he had a bad day at the office, simple as.
John Simpson fought the right fight, workrate was excellent and deserved the win 100%. He was the hungrier of the two, I was ringside so I missed nothing.
Martin imo is the more refined boxer of the two but tried to mix it as he did with Appleby, Simpson was having none of it. If you look at Martin's last few fights he looked physically bigger and stronger than he did against Simpson, I think he peaked several weeks too soon due the the canx fight at Bethnal Green a few weeks earlier.
Simpson and Smith, the rematch is out to purse, Martin could leap frog them and go straight to a Europen title shot and as he was ranked the number one in Europe for the last year or so, he deserves it.

If you had the respect to read my post correctly then you would've seen that I said he was one-dimensional AGAINST Simpson. Are you trying to tell me otherwise?
