He is a good fighter that has beaten good opposition. I don't see why it is a bad thing for British boxing that he has managed to become a top 10 ranked British P4P fighter.
I would say if any of the fighters below him in list were his weight they would all beat him 100%. stupid example I know but he's not that good

Booth hasn't won a fight since he beat Marsh in February, and that was a fight that many people had Booth losing at the time of the cuts stoppage. I moved him up a few places after his competitive IBF World title fight against Molitor, but since it was a loss I didn't think he should move too far up the list.

Booth is meant to be defending his British title against the Commonwealth champion Jamie Arthur soon. If he wins that fight then I can move him up a few places.

I consider Foster's win against Kirakosyan to be significantly better than Casey's win against Hyland. I also thought DeGale's win against Smith was a bigger win than Casey's most recent win, but not as good as Foster's. Which is mostly why DeGale entered above Casey, but below Foster.

Casey is fighting Rigondeaux for the interim WBA title in March, so he has a great chance to fly up the list after that fight.

Witter has a fight scheduled against Victor Puiu in February.

funtime wrote:Would probably have Chisora higher on the list, personally think his resume is better than the likes of Degales.
Chisora's top 5 wins: Sexton x2, Williams, Baker & Butlin.

DeGale's: Smith, Dilks, Horton, King & Barr.
Casey's: Hyland, Cave & PrizeFighter (Moran, Wale, McElhinney)
Hall's: Napa, Davies, Power x2, Walton
Lindsay's: Mathews, Appleby, Arthur, Barrera, Callaghan
Lee's: Belghecham, Gibbs, McKay, Sharpe & Ortega

Of the five fighters immediately above Chisora I would say Hall and Lindsay clearly have better wins, and I think DeGale's record is about the same as Chisora's.

Lee's and Casey's records are arguably a bit weaker, but Casey is the European champion and Lee has fought more recently than Chisora and he is only one place above him.

Chisora's record is fairly weak for a British top 30 P4P ranked fighter, so I think his current ranking is fairly accurate.

I think each name has a case for being higher than other. but generally the content of the 30 names is about correct.

I think his ommision is right. Before the Degale fight he would have been in the 25-30 mark, but after such a lopsided loss he should not get near.
Does anyone think that I was right to never include him though?

Horse, do you keep records of your rankings going back a few years? If so, I may need a favour, big man.

Previous month's rankings are still here on BoxRec. Why do you ask?

Because I was telling a mate about your lists, and he was a massive fan of Carl Thompson. He reckons he would've been in your top 5, but I said no.

I don't think it is a stupid example. I am not sure what would happen if Hatton fought everyone below him in P4P fights, but I don't think he would lose to all of them.

:D Thanks for spreading the word, Dioufy. :TU:

My first list was posted on 1st May 2006 and Carl Thompson was ranked in 8th position, he didn't move from that position until I took him out in September 2006.

I only started doing P4P rankings at that time, so I didn't do them when Thompson was at his best. When he was WBO champion he probably would have been in my top 5 at some point, but I didn't do rankings back then so I don't know for sure.

Calzaghe, Harrison & Nelson and others keep him out after he beat Rothman and Haye in 2004 and I don't think he would have been likely to enter the top 3 before he won the WBO title, so I will concentrate on his WBO reign.

Lewis and Hamed would have been above him for his entire WBO reign, so he could have been no higher than third.

If Irish fighters count then Collins would have been above Thompson, but I don't know when he announced his retirement and how I would have reacted to that. If I had to guess I would say that I would have left Collins in the rankings until September 1998, whilst thompson was still champion.

I am not sure about Calzaghe, but I would probably have had him above Thompson after they both won their WBO titles in October 2007, so that keeps Thompson out of the top 3 even if Collins isn't counted.

Of the other British fighters that held a World title during his reign (Hide, Reid and Woodhall) I might have had them above Thompson as well.

In conclusion, although it is difficult to say for sure, I think that Thompson would have probably missed out on a top 3 ranking. If you want a better answer I will try to give it to you, but I am too tired to think about it anymore at the moment.

would have khan 1st haye 2nd then froch, frankie gavin, james degale and tony bellew should be in the top 15 for ability alone.

Froch and Khan's recent opposition has been significantly better than Haye's. I also think Froch and Khan would have handled the P4P equivalent of Haye's recent opposition in better fashion than Haye has.

Frankie Gavin's opposition is nowhere near good enough to enter the top 30. I wouldn't even have him in the top 100 at the moment.

Bellew has a decent case for a lower top 30 place, but I think a top 15 place is far too high for him to be ranked whether it is based on achievement or ability.

DeGale isn't too far off, but I think a top 15 place is too high when considering his record.

this should be based on ability aswell as activeness. degale is a top ten fighter he looked world class v smith.

hatton is a joke & macklin is way over rated imo.

He was a class above a domestic level fighter, no more than that.

I agree with funtime.

A convincing win against Smith is not enough to gain a top 10 place.

Hatton has been beating good opposition, so I think he deserves to be called a joke less than a lot of other fighters at the moment.

Macklin did look bad in his last fight, but I think his place in the rankings is fair.

when barker beats macklin you'll prob move him up two spot's with macklin placed behind him

He has been beating good fighters and a lot of the fighters below him have not been doing the same recently.

If Barker beats Macklin then he will most likely climb more than two places.

Horse p4p lists are never easy to compile but in my opinion you have to take ability in to the equation, because if your looking at opponents they have fought and how quickly they have got rid of them, then you have to look at what opponents there opponents have fought and so on, maybe frankie gavins opponents are not as highly rated as other peoples opponents but surely you look at the ease he wins and how technicly gifted he is ? you say he wouldent even be in your top 100, so your saying theres atleast 99 better professionals currently in the uk at the moment then frankie gavin ? ok what if he was to win a british title on his next fight ? would he jump from 100 + sraight into maybe the top ten ? if you were to take naturally ability into account on your p4p i think it would make alot more sense !

I think Magee is a tad on the low side and Macklin, maybe a touch too high, I would probably have them the other way round. Apart from that, nice list, as always.
