Re: JOURNEYMAN PRIZEFIGHTER!!
By the way. To the guy that thinks youssef is a class above myself. Let's keep this usually going and maybe I will get the chance to prove you wrong. I'm more than confident I could give him all the problems he can handle .
Re: JOURNEYMAN PRIZEFIGHTER!!
I agree that there would be some great fights were this to come off. There's not one of them that would lose their bottle, all of them get in time and time again with the deck stacked against them. I'm not sure when 'Journeyman' became a term of disrespect; the vast majority of journeyman show pride in themselves, come in decent condition and put on a show. A 'Journeyman' used to be a description of someone who could ply their trade anywhere. I'm not too informed about any of the other names in the hat but the interview with Johnny Greaves in Boxing Monthly was excellent and it came across how much boxing meant to him and the pride he had in himself. I hope that one of the big promoters or SKY people are taking notice and 'Get It On!'

We box week in week out with no notice. To be given a platform to shine on a level playing field is a dream for us all. We just do enough on short notice to perform the week after. We are all good fighters , and a prizefighter format would bring the best from is all. By the way , there's plenty of pride among us to make it s great watch. If alowed my money is on me, lol

I'd probably go to this... I think the media interest could be huge if done properly. The ultimate Rocky story.

Re: JOURNEYMAN PRIZEFIGHTER!!
I've got to disagree with you Hurlock; I've read your posts before and never really read anything that I've disagreed strongly with but I think you are wrong and are disrespectful. The reason some boxers with poor records claim and hold is because they are in against 'the new flying machine they've no chance against' (I read a Nobby Nobbs interview in Boxing News or Monthly and he used that line). Most of the time they are put in at short notice against a bigger, better trained, better schooled boxer. There is often a gulf in ability but not in heart or pride, it is a great point of pride to be able to stand with someone and get the distance without getting shown up or bashed about.hurlock wrote:great idea :!:![]()

Re: JOURNEYMAN PRIZEFIGHTER!!
The reason that a lot of the 'journeymen' hold and spoil, is that if they get stopped, then the cannot fight for 30 days I think it is. They cannot afford to get knocked out, so try to survive so they can get another payday in short order.
If they are fighting one another for a decent purse for a change, then I am certain that there won't be lots of holding and spoiling.
the fights would be competitive, closely matched, and I think would produce some fireworks.
This is exactly what the sport needs, well matched opponents who are desperate to win, not the constant round of boxings next big thing against a hand picked opponent, which more often than not is the top of the bill.
Lets see this happen, I for one am totally behind it!

Judging by the blatantly disrespectful comment I say that he'd probably be a chicken.johnnygreaves wrote:Hurlock. That,s utter crap mate. Love to see you do your thing in the ring . If were donkeys, what would you be ?hurlock wrote:great idea :!:![]()

Re: JOURNEYMAN PRIZEFIGHTER!!
I think Billy Smith would be a good entry at this weight. I was impressed with him when I saw him last.

Re: JOURNEYMAN PRIZEFIGHTER!!
Daniel Thorpe is not bad and has a few good moves up his sleeve.Nearly every fight he catches his opponent with a classy combination. He can dig a bit too, though it would be very hard to score any early wins in this tournament!

Re: JOURNEYMAN PRIZEFIGHTER!!
Agreed. Thorpy is a great little fighter. You don't have hundred plus if you ain't good. I think everyone in it would open up looking for the win. Would be no harder than any other fights.you forget, we normally box a certain way coz most of us already have our next bout lined up. Not just the cash. We also don't like letting peeps down !

Re: JOURNEYMAN PRIZEFIGHTER!!
Hi Phil mate. Hopefully with a few more people we can make this thing happen. As you know after our fight , some journeymen can turn it on at times.this would be a great payback for the work we do. Get a few of your people on this topic for me .would love to hear peoples oppinion,s
Re: JOURNEYMAN PRIZEFIGHTER!!
Having read all the posts on this I for one who has been to all the London "Prizefighter" competitions think this is great idea the action would certainly surpass the last heavyweight crap. These guys the so called "journeymen"would not be faxed by the occasion as some of the novices have been on the "Prizefighter".
The format would have to be changed a bit as I think ( although I Have no idea ) how much you guys get for a late notice fight £7,500 for a loss in the 1st fight might be more than you get normally could possibly make some happy to lose & not give their best, that is not meant as a criticism just common sense.
I'm sure if this was put on at York Hall the joint would be jumping,I have the utmost respect for the have gloves will travel boys & if any of you have the ear of Barry Hearns it could come off, May I reserve 4 tickets please

Re: JOURNEYMAN PRIZEFIGHTER!!
Ha ha. Well I can tell you we get nowhere near that amount even for a double late notice job but. I and a few others I have spoken to on franks list would much rather win it than just go out to earn . Money don't matter to me. Much rather be britains best journeyman

Re: JOURNEYMAN PRIZEFIGHTER!!
what a good idea. All you boys deserve a crack at this thing, you give all the countries top prospects the rounds they need to further their careers. It would be good to see the boxings hieracy give it a go,and im sure any one who knows boxing could see this being as entertaining as any of the prize fighter nights that have gone before.make it happen barry!!!!!!!
Re: JOURNEYMAN PRIZEFIGHTER!!
