How do you feel about Adam Smith and Jim Watt team?

Well, I for one can't stand this duo.

Smith should just retire from commentating. He is just not up to it. I have talked to many people who actually turn off the cound when they watch fights because of Smiths crap. A jab lands, "Ooooohhhh unnnnnbbbeeellllievabblllle!!!!!" He constantly asks questions, "What will this win mean to Morales?" What do you think it means you idiot! He just beat Pacquaio! Smith is overdramatic and has no charisma, is terrible at play by play and fornicating ugly.

Is this the worst duo of commentating ever?

I preferred Ian Darke I must say. Adam Smith seems to be able to crank himself into a frenzy about a Peter Buckley fight, he just gets a bit much and fairly quickly. Don't mind Jim Watt, he probably has more analytical power as the colour man than Glenn McCrory did, Glenn could repeat himself a fair bit.

What has happened to Darkey, is he finished on the boxing?

He is on the football quite a lot. He's still class commentating on football. Cracked me and my mates who don't even watch boxing up a few weeks ago. Jermain Pennant had just come out of prison and he hit the crossbar.

To re-iterate a statement I made in a thread a while ago.

I was sat watching Corralles vs Castillo, thinking what and an unbelievable piece of history I was watching and Smith referred to it as "A Smashing fight".

Jim Watt could make any fight sound like a mundane piece of crap.

The best commentary I've heard on English boxing recently was on Woods vs Hoye and (despite the rest of the coverage being poor) the commentary on the Lynes vs Guillardo match on Bravo was top notch.

If Sky sacked their boxing team and showed the boxing shows as they are in the States (ie like CH5 and BEN do with their coverage) they'd have less wages to pay and more money to buy the rights to more fights. Just my opinion but I'd take Lampley and Merchant over Smith and Watt any day of the week, because let's face it, they're only there to constantly refer to the relevance of the fight to the British fighter in that division.

I have to agree that adam smith completely goes OTT with the theatrics and doesnt seem to know alot about boxing - half of his commentary is made up of asking jim watt questions! However, jim watt knows his stuff and although i dont always agree with him he is a good commentator if a bit repetitive( "arrrm punches,arrrrrm punches, arrrrrrrrrrm punches!")

And as for merchant and lampley? NO WAY! Merchant considers himself a know-it-all just because hes old and all lampley can do is state the obvious and the stats as steve pointed out.

Have you noticed as well with Adam Smith that during the ringwalks he always does a similar little speech about the fighter "Here comes the articulate, witty, amusing, engaging...."

I think quite a few US fans are getting a bit bored with those two, Lampley with his beloved Compubox numbers and Merchant with his little speeches and "pearls" of wisdom. But then you tend to find most commentators a little repetitive after a while.

Jim Watts comentry is complete garbage, he always contrdicts himself and his score card is a joke. My mates who are not into boxing that much even take the piss out of him and all the bollocks he talks.

Smith is bloody awful, he talks for the sake of talking, most of what he says is bollocks and he puts way too much emphasis on every single word he says. Watt must be cringing when he hears what shit Smith comes out with.

Another poster on this forum, Knockout Artist, cited Smith as one of the reasons for giving up SKY.

He comes to my house to watch the fights now, and he makes me turn the volume off when Smith is commentating.

JIm Watt is very good though, they should team him up with that guy who recently did the commentary on CH5?, what was his name?

I can hardly bear to listen to Adam Smith anymore. You'd have to know next to jack-shit about boxing to gain anything from his tired, repetitive act.

I know some aren't fussed with Teddy Atlas on ESPN but for me he's in a class all by himself. He makes so many technical observations throughout the course of a fight that he can't fail to educate the more casual viewers. If Atlas were on board at Sky I could watch a fight at home with my mates and not have to say a bloody word. Instead we've got Smith dominating the commentary with absolutely worthless bollocks.

Did anyone watch the Kendall Holt v Jaime Rangel fight on CH5 this week? At one point Testorie asks Atlas why Castillejo might be forced into fighting Mayorga instead of Vargas, and the response of Atlas was to launch an absolutely scathing attack on Don King and "organisations like the WBC". It was hilarious, took him about 30 seconds to get his breath back. Never in a million years would you hear something like that on Sky, I mean why would the viewers want to know what's really going on?

Jim Watt is the best boxing analyst on television IMO and rarely gets it wrong - though I concede to Chado I thought one of the few he miscalled was Ali's fight against Barnes. He is articulate and gives a real insight into the sport.

Adam Smith is improving, I think, though God knows how he keeps that voice up for a whole night.

Martin Tyler went AWOL from the football for quite a while and Darkey took over (and did an excellent job, as he should - he's been covering both sports and more for donkeys years now). I never got to find out why Tyler was away for what seemed to be a few months.

As for Jim Lampley - you can't blame the fella - he is commentating for Americans and, for anyone who has taken even a cursory glance at baseball coverage, they are absolutely mental for their stats. I like his enthusiasm.

Smith is just plain shite, worst commentator I have ever heard. Watt can be good in patches but he gets his one favourite fighter during a fight these days and just lambasts the other guy throughout. And he'll make one point throughout the fight over and over. Together they are a joke and Sky should really reconsider this I think.

Who's the team for Saturday night? I am hoping we get Darke and McCrory on Saturday night with Smith and Watt Friday.

Another point, I daresay Smith is a lot cheaper than Darke. ;)

....the worst pairing imaginable. Jim Watt looks and sounds like Mr Dead from the fast show and Adam Smith, who has obviously never taken a punch in his entire life, has all the forcefull delivery of a fornicating shrew. This pairing very nearly ruining my enjoyment of Corrales/castillo which really is just a prodigious achievment.

I don't know who I hate more, I really don't, but I have to comment on Jim Watt's monotonous, repetitive intonation - he constantly sounds like he's a teacher lecturing a naughty school kid. 'Always sounds like his annoyed ; that talking is a chore. Even when he says something postive, which seems to be rarely, this is the case.

BRING BACK DARKE & McCRORY!!!!! PLEEEAAASSEEE!!!!

Ah, that's not quite true. I remember an episode of Ringside where they sent him along to do some sparring with someone, I forget who. It wasn't a pleasant sight really, imagine a pasty upright prawn sweating profusely as some bloke whacked him to the body.
