Golota: The unluckiest heavyweight??? or the stupidest???

Post by lirva33 »

First he destroys Bowe giving him brain damage in the process and then gets himself DQ'd when the riches of the heavyweight championship were almost in his grasp.

Not happy with this showing, he does an even better job on Bowe and then an even better job on Bowes balls, getting himself DqQ'd and starting a riot in which he got blasted over the head by a member of the Bowe camp with a belt, if I remember correctly.

Next he fights Lewis and get's a severe pasting providing comic relief with his staring into space after the knockdown. Beaten in a number of seconds.

Next he fights Grant and has him down and all over the place in round 1 but lets him off the hook and disgraces himself by quitting.

Not happy to quit once, he signs for the most high profile fight he could have against Tyson. Winning the first round until he got caught with 5 seconds left and then quits in the second round. Get's assaulted by fans as he leaves the arena being hit with projectiles.

Then he get's one last chance to UNIFY the belts. He loses fights that many feel he really won against Bryd and Ruiz.

Then he get's blasted into oblivion by brewster.

Is Golota the unluckiest fighter ever??

I think the expression "You make your own luck" is particularly applicable to Mr Golota :D

I'm not sure but I thought it was a mobile phone someone battered him with.

Golota is by no means the most unlucky fighter ever.

Just lacks a bit of mental strength and was not quite as good as many of us thought.

Bowe-Golota wasn't for a Heavyweight title.

Don't know if you can call someone unlucky when they've had 3 title shots in a row. And all he did to warrant those shots was KO two journeymen.

.....golata was lucky in having been knocked out early and quitting in the fights mentioned. if he had stayed on his feet and kept fighting he might have been killed.

..dumb...yes indeed....but one of the highest paid dumb fighters of all time.

Christ, back in 1996 that mobile must have been like a breeze block 8) Back to the original question, Golota is not unlucky he is a boring subject, let's hope we have now seen the back of him for good.

Ah, maybe. But a 1993 mobile phone must have been the size of a breeze-block! Had quite a career dropping in on things did fan-man James Miller. I think he managed to land in a Super Bowl one year and also landed on Buckingham Palace as well. Hanged himself in the end, I think his body was found in Alaska or somewhere after it had been on a tree for 6 months. I think he had some nasty injury or illness that gave him constant pain. Probably brought on by being whacked with a 50lb Motorola Independent...

He did definitely take a whack from a mobile phone, across the back of the napper if I remember correctly.

The parachute guy also had a bit of a thumping. Nice crew that Bowe had kicking around.

..the mobile phone at that time was exactly the same size as johnny tapia. he actually posed for the model of it.

it wasn't bowe's people that pounded on the parachuter. i think it was reverend farahkan...if not it was some well known muslim leader who was being protected by his entourage. couldn't blame them....the guy practically landed in his lap and there was no way to know what the idiot jumper had in mind...lots of looney assassins around for several decades then and now. and the chuter could well have been a shooter.

Very true. I dont follow Tennis but the Fanman incident was not that long after that female tennis star got stabbed during a Tennis match live on TV.

I recall Holyfield mentioning this is what he thought of when he saw the Fanman land.

I would not say Golota is unlucky.

He got a shot at Bowe that he did not deserve, he got away without being DQed against Phua (sp?) after he bit him on the neck (before Tyson bit Holyfield), got another undeserved shot at Lennox, got an undeserved shot at Tyson, got an undeserved shot at Byrd and then because of that decision he got another shot at Ruiz, he pissed it off again and then got another shot at Brewster were he lost like an amator. Excuse me, but coming stone cold in a title match is just not smart. Golota had already a large number of pro matches and he should know better then to come cold agaisnt a champion, even one with so little reputation as Brewster.

Golota got 3 title shots, even after the fiascoes he had against Bowe, Grant, Lewis and Tyson. I bet a lot of contenders would lobe to be so ``unlucky`` in terms of multiple titel shots.

It is Golotas fault that he pissed off so many chances. He has power, jab, endurance, chin, can take a good body punch as well as punch hard and has stamina to go the distance. IF he did not make good use of his physical tools and the many chances he was given, then whose fault is it?
Golotas own. :(
