Will David Haye actually retire in October?
Will David Haye actually retire in October?
Obviously extremely disappointing news over the last few days about the Haye v Wlad fight not happening any time soon and then the revelation that Wlad is likely to fight Adamek in September.
Haye has talked for some time about retiring in October before his 31st birthday but I genuinely can't see him sticking to this decision without him having fought at least one of the Klitschko's for 3 reasons:
1. The payday for a fight against either Klitschko will be absolutely huge, maybe over 10m. Whilst Haye has made big money since moving to heavyweight, he is not in the bracket of guys like de la Hoya, Mayweather and even Hatton in terms of career earnings and a multi million pound payday will be too much of a temptation to refuse.
2. Haye genuinely believes he can beat Wladimir. People have suggested that Haye is running scared but I think Haye really fancies the job against Wlad, viewing him as very vulnerable to aggressive, fast and powerful opponents.
3. Haye has previous form in terms of not following through with promises and statements he makes. The best example of this was when he fought Enzo Maccarinelli at cruiserweight despite claiming for months previously that the Mormeck fight was his last at cruiser. I think Haye's tactics of saying he will retire are designed to increase the purse necessary to keep him out of 'retirement'.
What do you all think? Is Haye bluffing or will he genuinely retire in October?

Re: Will David Haye actually retire in October?
If he does and he hasn't fought a Klit, he'd be stupid and I'd be shocked for the reasons you've stated.
His goal was to be undisputed heavyweight champion and he's been banging on about it for a couple of years. Why cut your nose off to spite your face?

I think he will actually retire but I also think he will comeback in 2 years or so after - he's only 30 FFS - He has at least 10 years at heavyweight still remaining.
Re: Will David Haye actually retire in October?
Not with his style he hasn't - it's too reliant on speed and reflexes.ThereByTheGrace wrote:He has at least 10 years at heavyweight still remaining.
I think Haye will prolong his career for a Klitschko fight, but I don't think his heart is truly in the game any more and he will get out soonish - he has aspirations beyond boxing, which is to be applauded, and he has been boxing for a long time now.

He won't retire without facing at least one Klitschko!
Re: Will David Haye actually retire in October?
haye will be like hancock if he dont face a klit
he went down saying he was the saviour of heavyweight boxing & has won a title v the biggest fighter ever which he loves publicising but valuev was also the worst champion ever. but since haye has become rich he's lost desire he understand's every fight is a lottery at heavy. it's why he's the most exciting in the division.the tommy hearn's of the heavies.

Hopefully by then he will have beaten a decent Heavyweight.SteveDow wrote:Obviously extremely disappointing news over the last few days about the Haye v Wlad fight not happening any time soon and then the revelation that Wlad is likely to fight Adamek in September.

Haye wants to retire but has a track record of wanting things that never happen...I'd say his word is worthless.

Re: Will David Haye actually retire in October?
I personally think he is bluffling.
I like the fact that he wants to get out before becoming a punchbag, but he's way off that stage & he's still a relatively new champion with a point to prove.
Retirement in October would be silly in the extreme, even in the unlikely event that he has fought both of the fighting doctors.

Re: Will David Haye actually retire in October?
I think he'll definitely retire after he's fought the Klitschko's as there are no other big fights out there unless the Klitschko's lose but like others I believe he'd be crazy to go in October.

Re: Will David Haye actually retire in October?
I don't think he'll retire either. Not sure when he made this decision, but there's no ring to retiring on your 31st birthday with goals unfulfilled, that's a bit odd.
Re: Will David Haye actually retire in October?
I know he really wants to focus on an acting career once he's retired from boxing. Would a loss to one of the Klitschko's dampen his acting career before it's even started?
I’m not saying David is ducking anyone. He probably wants the fight but maybe because he's going into acting he’s not to bothered if the time on a Klitschko fight runs out?

Re: Will David Haye actually retire in October?
If Haye don't fight a Klit, he'll probably be forgotton in 10 years.
Re: Will David Haye actually retire in October?
It can be hard to call it a day when you are still able to make millions fighting guys like Harrison and Ruiz. Sure, he would make more against a Klit, but a few millions pounds is a few million pounds. It's not like he is so wealthy that those types of paydays mean nothing to him.
Re: Will David Haye actually retire in October?
I was a massive Haye fan, but I think he's now realised how much money can be made from random heavyweight-title defences. Haye ripped on Klit for taking "easy" defences, but what was Harrison and Ruiz, and now Chagaev? He's sold his soul to the devil. His legacy will be incomplete, because NOW knows how lucrative that WBA belt it.
IMO.

Re: Will David Haye actually retire in October?
It suits Haye to drag it out as long as possible. There is a very good chance he gets chinned by either brother so if he can squeeze in an "easy" fight first he will.Solis,Chagaev and Adamek are far better than anything he has faced at Heavy and would be interesting opponents.
Re: Will David Haye actually retire in October?
Spot on. Haye could fight Paul Daniels as long as Sky work their magic. There will be mugs who would actually think Paul Daniels would have a chance and buy the PPV. Run a poll on boxrec and see Paul get 35% of the votes.crusader wrote:It can be hard to call it a day when you are still able to make millions fighting guys like Harrison and Ruiz. Re: Will David Haye actually retire in October?
He stops Chagaev. Chagaev brings nothing to the table Haye hasn't seen before. Solis in unknown at heavy, and so is his desire. Adamek is a crusier, at best. No fight other than a Klit means anything.

Maybe, but all are better than anything Haye has faced at Heavy. His opposition has been woeful.I think those three would have a decent chance with Haye and both Klits would stop him.Dioufy wrote:He stops Chagaev. Re: Will David Haye actually retire in October?
But ultimately, those fights mean nothing and WON'T be remembered. Haye needs a Klit so badly. Relatively speaking, like....mickey1975 wrote:Maybe, but all are better than anything Haye has faced at Heavy. His opposition has been woeful.I think those three would have a decent chance with Haye and both Klits would stop him.Dioufy wrote:He stops Chagaev. Rafael is such a jerk. He walked up to Haye at the Khan fight and lapped him on the shoulder like he was a great mate, and Haye just blanked him totally. It was a big blow to Rafael's ego in front of all the press

Re: Will David Haye actually retire in October?
I don't believe he will. Haye has been lying to the media for years, I have no reason to believe he is being honest when he claims he will retire in October.
