Zappavigna vs Vasquez for the IBF title---March 12

Post by crusader »

This fight is looking probable for the March 12 Cotto-Mayorga PPV. Very good matchup. Vasquez is a slick boxer with clear wins over Prescott and Kim. He will easily be the best opponent Zappa has fought to date. Then again, I don't think Vasquez has defeated anyone as good as Zappa--although he did go the distance in losing efforts againt Tim Bradley and Saul Alvarez. Thoughts?

I hope he gats the fight and the belt. He will need to fight his best ever fight to win it i think. He was given a gift against angulo but he seems to be capable of anythng on the right noght. Hopefully March 12 will be that night.

Can't wait for this. I can't pick a winner cause i haven't really seen too much of Vasquez.

So it's looking like it will be held in the states hey? I will say this Lenny looks a lot more comfortable in Australia.
It will be interesting.

I Think Zappa's stated it won't happen.

IMO if Zappa gets the IBF title, watch for Katsidis to try and manouver into title shot contention.

Lenny took Kim out in half a round after Kim went the distance with Vasquez.

As for Angulo, how does winning a unanimous decision in the other boxer's backyard amount to a "gift"?

It amounts to a gift when the other boxer outboxes you for most of the rounds but you get the decision anyway. Ie, you did not earn it in the ring but it was given to you as a "gift".

That's your opinion. In time he'll prove you wrong. He's an extremely level-headed (educated) young Italian man, who IMO will achieve his goal.......Determined Italian's rarely fail to meet their goal :P

...and Angulo's headbutting and hitting on the break was the gift wrapping, was it?

That is my opinion of what a gift is????

Anyway, I hope he achieves his gold too. I will be supporting him no matter who he fights. Hopefully it is a world title shot though. I would love to see him with a belt and then in an australian match up with Katsidis

Did you see the fight?

I was cheering for Zappa hard and wanted him to win badly and even with my bias I thought he lost. Hey, it is just an opinion but if you thouhgt he won, no worries.

A decision against a Mexican in California usually results in a riot if the crowd think it is wrong.

Case in point Lionel Rose v Chucho Castillo. I heard of no riot after the Zappa Angulo fight. As for the judges only one had it close.

We in Australia don't see too many close fights, which it was, to call it a gift is a bit lazy. Zappa i can certainly attest to winning the first 5 rounds comfortably, and to argue against that statement is to argue for the sake of arguing.

My interpretation of a gift is a person who by all seeing accounts is completely dominated and to everyones surprise somehow is awarded the victory, this didn't happpen in this fight.

Talk about determined Italians. Here is one that I've known since he was 18 & drummer in Melbourne based band Cloud 9.

I know a few Australian/Italians, most do lift themselves from poor upbringings/hardtimes and excel in their chosen field.
