price hike in boxing shows

Post by dazzer »

just looking at a site for tickets and see there prices have gone up £5, used to be £35 now £40.

I for one will not be parting with £40 now for a boxing show. Just cannot afford it anymore, a few of the lads i go with who are not mad on boxing have now said they will not be paying that to go to a show. Will have to pick the 1 or 2 shows i go to now.

The recession has hit me hard in the last few months, so to get my cash the shows will have to improve.

what do you folks think?

Part of the reason white collar / unlicensed / semi pro shows are doing well , most are usually more like 50/50 fights , wheras on a pro show youll more often than not know whos likely to win , plus prices are a lot cheaper , as things go up on pro shows , which i know are for very valid reasons , they do have astronomical cost to cover etc , the white collar prices seem to be staying the same , ive seen some for as cheap as £8 to get in , ive also seen others at £30 for standard tickets so there are some that milk it a bit but overall its a cheaper good night out with a bit of hard fought boxing matches to boot .

But i do think on pro shows there not having much choice to put prices up on small hall shows , more often than not a small hall promotor will make a significant loss , its only fair they try to cover their costs a bit to put on some boxing for us guys , although i do wonder if they make much more as surely higher prices mean less sales

What I don't understand about ticket prices going up is that we all get paid a lot less per fight these days and there s still plenty bums on seats. Everythings gone up except purses

not sure who sets the prices, is it the promoter or the venue? or a combination of both?

No mate, down to the promoter only. The venue charge set price , down to promoter to charge what he wants

Have to wonder then where the extra money is going, if it's just the promoters charging more or the venues increasing their set price (and the promoters passing that cost directly onto the fans).

Yes costs are generally rising etc, but the way I see it if prices are going up then somebody along the line is making more money.

Either way it seems shite if the squeeze is going on the purses.

I know the board have put a few qwid on promoters costs over last couple of years. To be fair. A lot of small hall promoters regularly lose money. Someone must be able to help these small hall promoters somewhere down the line. Without the likes of Carl Greaves and co , boxings gonna really struggle

gotta bear in mind theyve got pretty big overheads for a show , regardless of size , theres obvious things to pay for such as venue and ring hire , fighters purses , referees and officials etc but theres things you wouldnt necesarilly think about in the costs automatically , things such as ring girls ,MC, paramedics/doctors and security , which aint cheap , security can be a huge cost , something is obviously going up in price if tickets cost more but fighters get less just racking my brain to think of what it could be , theres costs of running gyms for some guys i suppose , most gyms wont make a profit

Its just the VAT rise guys

Promoters will be paying 20% on tickets

Plus all of the above mentioned Venue, security, etc etc will also be raising their prices because of the VAT increase

If you look what the thread starter actually said he mentions it as only recently going up £5 so you might have been talking over the past few months etc with your white collar unlicensed nonsense but their is a legitimate reason for the price rises. :TU:

FTM have not increased there ticket prices if anything we have reduced Dec 15 belfast £25 £35 and £55.
Jan 22 doncaster £30 and £60
Feb 5 brentwood £30 and £55
We know there a recession out there and fans have a lot more choice so we are trying to keep fans turning up at live show to be able to keep these price's we do need the boxers to encourage their own fan base and get more of the general public to turn up. We will try and hold these for as long as possible. But you are right the main promoters have got to paid the vat increase.

When I forst read this post I thought it might be FTM making it £40 instead of £30. Very glad to see you are keeping the lowest price around the £30 mark as I think that is a good value price point.

Do you notice an increase in turnout/demand with cheaper prices such as £25 i would expect that there probably isnt much of a difference if any if you charged £25 or £35.

How much of the "general public" actually turn up to a show i expect that 75%+ of the crowds these days have been sold tickets by the boxers on the show and are friends family and other general followers of the boxers rather than walk ins or people who hear there is aobxing show on locally lets go down have a look

Also a tip for buying tickets is to get them off the boxers on the bill. It might sound odd but most undercard fighters will have a few tickets to shift and will be happy for your support. You can usually hook with them on facebook and sort it out. This way you avoid booking fees and other charges that websites add on.

True and you are directly helping out one of the boxers get a better name for themselves and make a bit more dough through ticket sales.
