Alexander Povetkin

Post by Chopping Right »

I hope we get to have a look at this character on Saturday night's Sky coverage. We've heard plenty from old "Allegedly" over the past few years about how Olympic super-heavy gold medallists should NOT go about their professional careers, now he has one of his own to play with perhaps we can see how it should be done.

Have to say though the choice of Dave Clarke isn't massively inspiring considering Povetkin's amateur credentials, Clarke has lost 12 on the spin now, 5 of those by KO, 3 in the first round. Maybe Mike Middleton was busy?

There has not been alot of excitement about Povetkin turning pro which is surprising.

I for one think this is the Future king of Heavyweight Boxing. He will go all the way & get further quicker than Audley has.

Also he is still young but done everthing in Amateur Boxing possible.

It Was a surprise he went with FW but Povetkin is no WBU champ we are talking Undisputed Champion of the World but i think he will jump ship to that! :TU:

this guy looked fearsome from what I saw of him in the olympics.

I'm looking forward to seeing how his pro career maps out. Not thrilled about his warren link, obviously.

I like the sound of that. He's been a bit unlucky with the heavyweights has FW, he persevered with Danny Williams and Herbie Hide for years without much reward. I read somewhere that it cost FW a small fortune to bring Hide v Klitschko to Britain which he did because he wanted to give Herbie every chance, only for Norwich's finest to put in that piss-poor performance. Had the fight gone to Germany he would have been quids in.

As with any Heavyweight tuning professional with a good amateur backround you can't help but think are we watching the start of something very special?

I'm afraid Audley has made me very cynical about Olympic Gold medallists... :D

Hmm, remember reading Allegedly Speaking back at the beginning of last month, and there was a claim he did exactly that. How unusual. 8)

I think we better tread a little carefully on this topic, we could open a can of worms.

Sprott vs Hoffman is off (I thought) I know Vidoz is supposed to be filling but I wonder what this means of Potevekin.

Also, I still think (and it is mearly me opinion) but isn't Sprott still a Sports Network fighter, perhaps Potevekin is being showcased in Germany but still a SN fighter - who knows.

It would be a bad idea to showcase your heavyweight in that country - I bet Maloney has some regrets about losing Valuez who is making money in Germany for his new promoters.

When did he join Sauerland?

Bah King Audley still needs work.

Wonder why Warren said he signed him.
