LARRY O V MCDERMOT

Post by funso banjo baby »

this is a good little c-level scrap

someone should be stopped inside 5

the flabby mcdermot is on a long losing streak

Larry has finally taken on a few homegrown brits and blasted them out early

theres no doubt Larry v Chisora would be fun (once Del boy's face has mended).

i expect War Machine to Stop him , i dont think Big Mac has the fitness to Jab his way to a points win and will get caught flush at some point but i think if it did go to points then Mcdermott is good enough to earn the win , a lot will depend on how much Big Larry has come on , its been difficult to tell sometimes as his power has been too much for many guys , maybe we may get to see if hes made enough progress in his boxing to be a domestic contender , or who knows he could surprise us and go further , i believe this is a big fight for Larry , We could find out in tis one just what hes capable of .

It's gonna be a very tough fight for Larry if he's not got John out of their in the first 4. BIG John's the British gatekeeper, he's very durable and he's got under-rated skills and fitness (despite his physique).

Should be a cracking fight......... come on Larry!!

McDermott doesn't like being jumped on early doors (who does?), and Larry would do well to look at Skelton's win over John.

It depends on how much McDermott has left after a reasonable career and the two gruelling fights with Fury. I would say the last thing he needs is a big, agressive lump like Larry O coming at him, who is very quick out of the traps.

Larry in the 1st half, but if he hasn't managed to dent McDermott's determination then John to take over and win in the 2nd half.

I agree with the above.

Great matchup, though.

McDermott should extend Larry and it will be interesting to see him having to fight at a pace for an extended period. The acid test for rospects usually comes when an opponent suddenly turns up who can not only take their shots but comes back and whacks them back on top of that. To win if that proves to be the scenario Larry will have to show fitness and the ability to switch to a plan B, and if his weight is up as high as it has been the fitness question may be the one that decides things. Larry is a hell of a big man, but even if he did lose 20lbs he would still be a very big man. I always think too much muscle mass can be detrimental late in a fight.

Good luck to both men if this fight gets made.

Funny thing with that fight is they weren't really big shots that put him over- biggest factor for me is McD quit against Fury- he had it won but didn't have the mental fortitude to suck it up- I think he trained too hard and broke his heart whilst training and went in as a defeatist.

John had left CJ and went with Jim McDonald, that was the worst thing john could have done.. The training Jim does, def works with some people but not John.. John's back with CJ for the last 6 months and is looking like the fighter that 1st came up against Fury he cant wait for this fight. Cant see this fight going the distance imo if Larry dont get him within 3 rounds then i see John taking over. john's sparred with some big Puncher's- Tom Dallas Mark Potter David Price Haye etc aint been put over by them so if Larry does it then

Good Luck to both Men...

Intriguing match up. I would like to see the winner against Fury. Personally, I still wouldn't mind see a 3rd match between Fury and McDermott - they were quite exciting match ups, and I'm still not convinced Fury has got his number.

I do like McDermott in this one, he seems to have improved since the guy who lost to Skelton. No longer that weaked chinned, and he might be able to outlast Larry.

McDermott is tough. It'll be doubly impressive if he stops him early. But what a stepping stone that'd be.

why ?

both matches were awful...everyone thought the blistering summer heat was a factor in making the fighters slow sluggish last time .....

but they always fight like that.

McDermott vs Fury 1 was one of Sky's fights of 2009.

for tyson and mcdermot fans it was prob v enjoyable and relevant.

but for neutrals or realists it was a fairly dull affair watching the painfully clumsy and unfit Fury taking nearly 20 rounds to dispose of the even duller and unfit Mcd.

why couldnt Fury (standing 6ft8 and possessing all the qualities his fans claim he has, not blast out Mcd the way Skelton and the cruiser Popov did ?

and another question? how far can Tyson Fury improve ? apart from shedding the excess weight which shouldnt be hard for an athlete of his age?

I'm a neutral and a realist.

It seems to me that you over-rated Tyson and was disappointed when he wasn't what you believed him to be, Fury couldn't KO McD like Popov and Skelton did because he hasn't got much power for a HW.

McD is a tough fight for all our novice HW's IMO

I think this fight depends on how hard Larry has changed and what Mcdermott has turned up as i believ he blows hot and cold

John seems like a nice lad but i) I was ringside for his rubbish 1 round loss to Skelton and ii) Larry is a boxrecer.

So for those reasons

Come on Warmachine you comic book geek you!

I would favour Larry, McDermott is vulnerable early and has always had confidence problems which wouldn't of been helped by his recent run! I would fancy Larry early, if it went past 4 say I think John could maybe outbox him but it's a toughie for both men and should make a good fight
