You need a decent infrastructure for Internet PPV, though. Or hire a 16 year old.

Oi Jeff. Stop posting on here, you can't have a go at me and do it yourself. Ha, only joking mate. I've only just got into this forum lark. So still learning my etiquette. It's only that I'm really trying to get this thing on. Got a bee in me bonnet about it. It seems to me journeymen have a bit of a stigma attached to them. There's reasons we get beet most weeks, & being crappy I don't think is one of em.

I woul imagine with the promotion of it, say you got it into a nationa paper, when doing a profile of each fighter, have their record and then a list of the 'well known' fighters they've fought, just to give the casual fans an angle into which fighter they think might win?

After having a little ask around, I got the impression that Matchroom would definitely be interested in promoting the show, which is good news. But would Sky go for it? That will be the bottom line.

Now then, thats a damn good idea. I like the idea of the well known fighters.

Can we think of 8 fighters in the same weight devision with well known fighters on their record... I think it would have to be really well known though. Guys like Naz, Hatton, Calzaghe, Haye, Harrison, Khan - thats really about it.

Can I ask you something? Don't think I am being funny but why does boxing owe you?

I am not in judgement here, so before anyone get's on my arse about this, I want to hear the answer, because there might be a viewpoint I have never considered. As far as everyone is concerned, you do it because you want to do it. And the day you don't then you don't. For the sport to owe you? Strong claim there mate.

Ok I wouldn't really say it owes us. Figure of speech. But we save a lot of shows boxing at short notice. All I'm saying is . Help us out . We help many promoters , matchmakers. Seeing as winning fighters don't seem to want to box each other. Many shows wouldn't have an undercard. Just mean boxing in general should give us one night to shine . It's not pay per view . So if sky did lose a few viewers . I'm sure theres enough people who'd come to the venue and watch on tv what would be a genuinely entertaining show

I don't think sky would lose any viewers. Its a novelty so it would get loads of interest.

Casual fans (i.e. the ones making the majority of the viewing audience) don't know who the normal prizefighter entrants are anyway so I don't suppose that matters. People will watch if they enjoyed the previous one, 'Prizefighter' has become a memorable brand which to a lot of people means more than the entrants.

The only problem would be would the fighters go into survival mode? what im thinking is journeymen fight purely for cash and prizefighter quarter finalists get 4k so would the lads think f*ck it ill do three rounds easy 4k.

I'm not trying to knock this idea down cos i think it would be great, thats the only thing that we dont want to happen.

What do u guys think ?

Winning those 3 rounds = £8k though. 3 more it's £16k. Another three and it's £32k. Seems like an incentive to me, especially for someone used to earning a lot less.

Agree to a point, but I would love to know the viewing figures of each of the prizefighters. Cause it seems since the lightweight one there has been a focus on some names.

I think many people would have a vague Idea of fighters like Herbie Hide, Robin Reid (naughty naughty matchroom), Skelton, Sprott, Gavin Rees etc.

yer i dont understand why you would say they would go into survival mode. Surivival mode is understandable when you are in against a top prospect for a few quid is understandable. why would journeyman go into survival mode when there are real potential rewards for winning a fight. its not like a loss is going to hurt them :OhYes: they would go all out :bag: :box:

To my knowledge I've been the busiest for the last 2 years. Only razack comes close. To the other writers . Why would we go into a shell for 4 g,s when 6 rounds later you get 32 . I wouldn't go into a shell against fighters I have good chance of beating. Money gets spent. That trophy stays on my mantle till I pop me clogs

Yeah Stu a vague idea but not massive pulling power. I think it's the format that attracts people. Aside from 1 or 2 in each none are really 'names'.

In some of the past tournaments there's only been one or two boys with a realistic chance of winning. We can all fight and it would be wide open. How can that not appeal to fight fans. Anyone who wouldn't like that side of it needs their heads tested. To many big fights are to one sided. Won't moan tho coz that pays my bills. Ha

i think it would also show that the journeymen competitors are so much better than their records suggest; so the casual fan thats sees even a few losses on a record ignorantly thinks "this guy must be crap" will see a little deeper into the machinisations of the business and the real meaning of a boxers record.as" the upset king" peter mc'donagh says " records are for d.j's"

Can't just appeal to hardcore fight fans, needs the general sports fans or casual followers too. Journeyman has a negative association with it sometimes so I'm not sure how much they would want to play on this or how it would be promoted. I do think it could be a decent spectacle though (although I'm not a massive fan of the Prizefighter format, I'm more traditional).

Obviously , I've spoken to loads of people on this. I'm a real easy going bloke so do think people have been honest and not tried to be polite . All said boxing at times seems one sided. Some non fans reckon they don't watch coz its fixed. Of course that complete shite but everyone has said they would watch a genuinely open fight or tournament. If they showed a bit of our boxing background. And history. People would tune in for sure.
