If only Eric Armit ran boxing

Post by chinny »

Big fan of Eric Armit's massively entertaining writing, most notable this time around for the best tribute to Bennie Briscoe I've read recently (2 paras about half way down) and another rant about sanctioniong bodies which makes you laugh and cry. Armit somehow consistently keeps these essentially repetitive alphabet soup rants very, very entertaining. Must be the bone dry tone

Eric 'East Fife 0' Armit is an absolute legend; I have no idea how he keeps up to date with everything, especially the shenanigans of the boards.

Shame he couldn't keep up with the fact that Farhood has been writing for BM for the last 13 years (he was only at Ring 19). Bit like me describing myself as a former toddler ;;-) Obviously Farhood's contributions to journalism, for which he has been recognised with the award mentioned, ended 13 years ago. Always had the feeling I've been paying him for nothing!

Wasn't Armit involved with the Commonweath Boxing Council?

I'm a fan of his weekly report. Didn't he do it on britishboxing.net as well?

FFS, there's some sensitive f**kers on this forum, eh?

Though Eric's sentence wasn't inaccurate, I've added reference to his long-standing role at BM because this is what undoubtedly swayed the Nat Fleischer (editor of the Ring magazine for fifty years) award Farhood's way rather than his former editorship of...erm...The Ring. 8) :TU:

Eric Armit, always interesting. I really enjoy his articles. I don't have much else to say, other than keep up the good work.

Take just the few sentences where he covers the middleweight title fiasco and you have there the simple proof for anyone who requires it that the alphabet boys are killing the sport slowly but surely. It's heart-breaking.

Yes, was high up in the CBC and he's still involved in some capacity. I'm sure he was also on the WBC board at one point. Yes, after his BN days were done I was very glad to have him on board at BBN and now at BoxRec News. I defy anyone to read his two weekly columns (Behind the Results is his digest or results; Snips and Snipes is a news round up) and not learn something.

I always look after my boys son, part of the job! By implication, almost half Farhood's working life as a journalist didn't count! Mind you, he isn't much cop these days, as I never cease to tell him lol

Nah, fair call mate and I've amended. It's weird how things work out...when I was a kid Farhood was probably my favourite American writer...he still is. Underrated niche satirist.

Cheers la - rare to be able to pull Eric on anything at all, that man is thorough, a very good addition to your increasingly impressive squad. And Farhood's OK for a poorly dressed American in loud check trousers and an oversized stetson I suppose lol.

I know Eric dismisses the alphabet soups but I do appreciate when any mention of a WBU or interim bullshit etc is mentioned in any boxrec news article, I love how the editor always comes in and says its not a world title (a recent Rigondeaux vs Casey article springs to mind!)

you must mean this bit of quality editing

"“I am world champion. (You aren't - Ed.) Casey and all of the fans in attendance will see a true world champion (they won't - Ed.) in action March 19. If Casey thinks I’m going to Ireland to lose my world title belt (you haven't got one - Ed.),"
