http://www.hennessysports.com/news-arch ... [email protected]LONDON (January 10, 2011) - Hennessy Sports are pleased to announce that earlier today in Rome they outbid both allegedly and Double "A" Promotions (Andy Ayling) to stage the highly anticipated all British European Title Super Fight between Darren Barker and Matthew Macklin.
http://www.teampalle.dk/composite-1517.htmI had a verbal telephone row with Warren’s all-around man Andy Ayling the other day about officials or something. Ayling, who has been sacked nine or 10 or 11 times by Frankly Speaking, then went into some harangue about how no American officials could be allowed to officiate Kessler-Calzaghe because I’m the Kessler-Palle agent and I’m a red, white and never blue guy.
Ayling conveniently forgot that good guy Jay Larkin, the ex-Showtime boxing boss, is Warren’s agent. Last time I checked, the Larkin family’s roots were firmly planted among the finest trees in Brooklyn.
I can’t say too much more about Ayling except that he repeatedly tossed a drunken dwarf out of a hotel bar and into a cold and clammy London street back when I was propaganda minister for Don King. It might’ve been after Frank Bruno beat Ollie McCall. I think Ayling also has a bar fight victory over Herve Villachaize and maybe midget wrestlers Sky Low Low and Little Beaver.
He likes to pick on little guys yet he quivers whenever the diminutive but dangerous ex-Warren partner, Fearless Frank Maloney, is about.
Come to think of it, Ayling quite resembles a beaver especially with his Just Enlisted Marine style haircuts. When Andy tells he’s just been bowling he means he just got a haircut. You would think he would take the salad dressing and olive oil out of his hair but he’s far from the brightest lamp in Warren’s library.

I can't say I'm a fan. This'll be interesting though.

So this Ayling chap has roots in boxing and a former affiliation with FW?Asterix wrote:http://www.hennessysports.com/news-arch ... Perhaps he's split with Frank and going it alone? Interesting stuff ...

Re: Double "A" Promotions who is this
A bit of background for those who don't know and are asking.
Andy's been around a long time. First encountered him as a press officer for Matchroom in the Eubank days, then in a similar role for Maloney (but for a far shorter period), before he moved on to Warren's outfit around the end of the 90s (I think) and became more involved with the business end. Andy's very experienced, knows the game and how to play it.
Some people seem to have a problem with him, but I've not had a single one in my 20-odd years working in boxing. Speak as I find, I've always liked the fella, good (and mischievous) sense of humour. Had some proper laughs with him, including a drunken Ben Hur chariot race down Atlantic City Boardwalk. Can't remember who won, but neither of us are Spartacus.
Don't ask me about Double A, I have no idea, but I wish Andy luck with it. He might still be working with Frank, he might not, I don't know, haven't spoken to Andy for a good while. But they're both too experienced and long in the tooth to do anything without good reason. I'll be interested to see how this develops.

Re: Double "A" Promotions who is this
Nice to address the balance there Glyn.... of course fans develop impressions based on articles and everything.... so nice to hear a bit of praise.
I have to say the sceptic in me is going into overdrive mode around this Macklin vs Barker bid. I won't repeat what I am thinking, but we all remember what happened when an Irish TV company had a contract with Sports Network. Maybe a standby thingy.
I sincerely hope that Double A promotions is going it alone. It sounds very promising if they made a bid for a such a high profile fight. I do hope the bids are released. With his contacts, perhaps TV might not have been an issue (e.g. Double A will get TV rights). It ups the game of the other promoters - look at FW now that Hatton has come on the scene - and if something like premier sports and primetime can showcase more domestic boxing, then sky will up their game also (as history has shown).

Re: Double "A" Promotions who is this
Wrong. Only if the public have an appetite for boxing will there be more boxing.damianhucker1 wrote:id say quite the opposite , the more promotors there is the more boxing there is , it has a knock on effect , boosting the popularity of the sport , if the sports more popular then tv companies want it on there channels , more money available to promotor , etc etc etc , i have no problem with how many promotors there is in the slightest , its if they start putting on garbage shows its a problem , but for a small hall promotor (not saying thats what this guy is as i dont know) if they put on poor shows they will go bust wont they .McCannW14 wrote:Who cares. The last thing British Boxing needs is another promoter.
How many have we got?
Very few promoters have been in business and managed to stick it out of long.
Promoting Boxing is a very easy way to lose lots of money, unless you are very good at it and have some luck.

Deserter you may well have missed Emerson's post up at the top - think you are likely to get your wrists slapped!
Having said that if Emerson hadn't made that post I wouldn't have thought any more of it!

Re: Double "A" Promotions who is this
So let me get this straight. I may have talked with Andy without knowing it? The plot thickens! Either way, that doesn't make me Spartacus.
