I meant voluntary!
Re: It's 10.15am - David Haye - turn on Radio 5 now!
No, there's something in the contract about signing to face him after he pulled out last time, it's why he had to make a decision before Jan x or whatever the date was. I can't really remember, there's been so much written about it all but I thought FW was saying that despite it being a voluntary, there was something contractually. As we all know, FW does love his contracts and paperwork.
Re: It's 10.15am - David Haye - turn on Radio 5 now!
He had to respond in 30 days if he wanted to fight Chisora I believe, or else the offer would elapse. He was under no obligation to fight him however.

Apart from that all titles in boxing, apart from the Lonsdale belt, are a waste of time, I for one have nil regard for any of them.
Awful, awful idea.
We need as many UNIFIED belts as possible, and for a blockbuster Heavyweight title fight to lose titles, such as you are suggesting, does nothing other than devalue the whole thing.
Before you leap back at me, by the time the two squared off we'd probably have 3 other title-holders all saying they are world champion and asking to face the winner of Haye-Klit to decide who is the TRUE number 1..... etc etc

Re: It's 10.15am - David Haye - turn on Radio 5 now!
Well done Ian for flagging this, well done Col for providing the link. Very revealing listening. Derbyshire was asking basic and logical questions, the sort that the man in the street requires answers to, and all Haye could do was try to drown her out by talking over her (always one of the weakest ways to try and win an argument, you know someone's not confident in their argument if they try it) and repeat himself over and over again, without explaining anything.
It was like he was programmed — those were the same bog standard answers he gave to any questions around that time, worded exactly the same, and he was determined to air them over and over again irrespective of the questions he was being asked. "Blah blah Mormeck, blah blah 7ft 2inch giant Valuev, blah blah not my fault." He had the opportunity to explain himself and the situation but didn't in his determination to get his own 'message' over.
The old line comes to mind, I think it was one of Hitler's (please correct me if I'm wrong), to the effect that if you repeat something often enough it becomes the truth, even if it isn't (and don't get me started on The Ring calling itself the Bible of Boxing!). Haye appeared to be trying to brainwash the public (and Derbyshire) with his 'party line' by repeating himself over and over again and not answering the questions put to him, like a politician almost. Transparent tactics that didn't work on Derbyshire and I doubt they will have on the public, who are getting well sick of boxing as a result of this kind of thing. If hardcore fans are turned off by this, the general public certainly will be.
Lot of time for David but he did himself and boxing no favours here IMO, disappointing.

First time I have listened to that and Haye really doesn't come across well at all. It really makes you realise why the general public can't be bothered with boxing.
I have went from someone who was going to book my tickets and hotel etc. for wherever this was going to be to someone who has lost interest in anything either of them have to say.

Re: It's 10.15am - David Haye - turn on Radio 5 now!
David Haye seems to think we care about his rinky-dink WBA title, even whilst he himself invokes a legit title like the Ring Championship. When was the last time the WBA heavyweight champ was the real champ? Over ten years ago when they stripped Lennox. It should be a badge of honour to be stripped by the WBA. Seeing as Haye claims he's retiring in October anyway, why is he prioritising his paper title over the fight everyone wants to see, the fight that will earn him mega money? Haye claims he's done absolutely everything to get the Wlad deal done. He hasn't. He's still kowtowing to the WBA, an organisation that has no credibility at heavyweight.
Re: It's 10.15am - David Haye - turn on Radio 5 now!
Haye was desperate to get his point across, but he was not bullsh**ing IMO.
He said for him to fight Klitschko on July 2nd and keep his title, he had to apply to the WBA to put his mandatory on hold and not strip him of the title. The WBA agreed. However, when Klitschko announced on the 5th Jan that he was going to fight Chisora first, that agreement was scrapped and the WBA said they would strip him if he did not fight his mandatory before July.
I cant say one way or the other what the WBA did/did not say, but i'm inclined to believe Haye here, i cant see him making that crap up when the truth of it could be so easily found out if he was bullsh**ing. I can also understand the WBA's position, postponing his mandatory for him to fight Klitschko next is all fair and well, but if Klitschko then goes and announces he's signed to fight somebody else in the meantime, the whole picture changes. I hate sanctioning bodies, but i hav e no issue with the WBA's reasoning here.
Haye then went on to explain why he is not willing to give up his title by refusing his madatory and staying with Klitschko on July 2nd. He pretty much says that with Klitschko signing to fight Chisora on April 30th, it tells him in no uncertain terms that he will not go through with their agreed fight on July 2nd, and i for one agree with him 100%. For one, their fight could not be properly promoted until after April 30th. A fight of the magnitude of Haye v Klitschko needs a massive promotion and 2 months just does not cut it. Secondly, Wlad could get beaten, lets not forget he's been KO'd 3 times by C- fighters in the past, so no massive surpise if anyone chins him again in his career. Thirdly, injuries happen all the time, genuine or not. I feel Klitschko, after beating Chisora, could certainly announce he's injured and cant fight on July 2nd. Haye would be stripped and Klitschko would be laughing his arse off. Without a title, Haye would struggle to get either Klitschko in the ring, they'd likely be falling over each other to grab the title he was stripped off.
I believe 100% Wladimir ballsed this one up on purpose. I dont think he fancies it. He was clearly involved in back door negotiations with Adamek all the while and probably feels by fighting Adamek in September he will redeem himself with the scepticle fans who doubted his intentions in the Haye negotiations. All he had to do was sign to fight Haye on July 2nd. If he wanted it badly, he'd have done so, but by signing to fight Chisora so close to their proposed date, he's lost his chance to fight Haye, for the WBA belt, in a clear career defining fight, and for mega millions of cash. He bottled it IMO!
I hope Adamek smashes him, and seeing as i live in Poland, i'll be doing all i can to snap up a ticket to see it up close!
My only issue with Haye is, why not chase Vitali for July 2nd?

Thing is tho' (for 1 point you made), the fight v Wlad doesn't need further promoting, it's been promoted for 2 years.
If it was announced for a fortnights time the stadium would be full and the PPV would be 1/1.5m buys.

Re: It's 10.15am - David Haye - turn on Radio 5 now!
Your wrong mate, to guarantee maximising all potential revenue it would need to be promoted properly over a period of time considerably longer than two months, thats the way it is with mega money fights now. The promotion for this fight cannot really begin until the Chisora fight is over with, for good reason. I dont think any promoter would be happy with the conditions Wlad was proposing.Srebmun wrote:Thing is tho' (for 1 point you made), the fight v Wlad doesn't need further promoting, it's been promoted for 2 years.

Forgetting the promotional side of it, i feel certain Wlad would not have went through with the fight anyway. He just does not fight in such short time frames, and there can be no doubt about it that Haye will be the most dangerous fighter Wlad will have faced in his career, so its very very odd he'd want it this way.
Add to that he was clearly involved in back door negotiations with Adamek.
No matter who one blames for this fight falling through, i dont think anyone should try to say with any certainty that Wlad was up for fighting Haye on July 2nd.

Re: It's 10.15am - David Haye - turn on Radio 5 now!
Haye wont retire in October, I wouldn't believe a word he says. He pretty much says whatever suits him, as we've seen in recent years.
He can NEVER make cruiserweight again ( just before he fought Macca )
He's going to clean up the HW division....
He's pulled his back ( just before pulling out of the Wlad fight and the collapse of Setanta )
He's going to fight Vitali ( then signs Valuev next day )
He's going for an explosive knockout against Valuev....
He'll never give the undeserving Audley a shot at the title....
Why on earth would anyone believe anything he says now?
And I don't seriously see Wlad as being too worried about this fight ( other than Haye pulling out again ) he's got huge size advantages over him, the better chin, and masses more experience fighting at heavyweight, compared to Dave who's never fought a live heavy in his life.
I've always been a big Haye fan, up until the last few months, and I'm no way a fan of Wlad either, but really, I've given up on DH lately. Booth and Haye seem too clever by half, so clever that they've negotiated themselves out of the biggest fight of the year.
