Kevin Mitchell wants Murray for his comeback
Kevin Mitchell wants Murray for his comeback

Interesting read.
Methinks Mitchell needs a tune up fight before stepping back in with anybody near Murray's level
With both in form, and with Mitchell not going in there and fighting like a plum (like he did against Katsidis), this could be a cracking fight!

Re: Kevin Mitchell wants Murray for his comeback
I don't think kev boxed like a plumb. I just don't think he's a lightweight . Katsidis was just to big and strong. Kevin will come back and show his class!
Re: Kevin Mitchell wants Murray for his comeback
Kevin would be better at super feather but I don't think he able to meet weight. Murray would stop him in 10.
Re: Kevin Mitchell wants Murray for his comeback
Mitchell would probably be the biggest puncher Murray's ever fought.
Of course Mitchell would be better off at super-feather, but he's stated in the past it's a weight he just can't make anymore.
Murray has nowhere near as much poke behind his shots as Katsidis does, and I could see this being a cracking contest with either getting stopped late on. I hope it's made!

Re: Kevin Mitchell wants Murray for his comeback
Really? I don't think he should face Murray straight off. Lose that, and he stands a very good chance of doing so, and it's going to be even harder to come back.
Re: Kevin Mitchell wants Murray for his comeback
Kevin Mitchell is still a very good boxer with a real pop in his punches. I think that he is a real lightweight but Katsidis is super big and strong at the weight. There's nothing wrong with being beat by a top class boxer, Katsidis is so much more experienced at the level and let Mitchell shoulder all the pressure. I'd like to see Murray get a title shot very soon else he may go stale; a bout between the 2 would be a cracker but there's no way Kevin should get straight in with Murray who is very focused and insistent; Murray would really give it to Kevin.

I am wondering how he deals with a stalker, he struggled like hell with Johanssen and Katsidis, and I think Murray Is far stronger and hits harder than Johannson. I think Murray would be too strong and stop him in the late rounds.

It will be a long road back if he loses to Murray, and I believe he will.

I'd rather see how Kevin fared against Gavin Rees before putting him in with Murray.
Murray must be brimming with belief while Kevin must have a bit of self doubt after his first loss.

I'd favour Rees over Mitchell as well as Murray over MitchellFinal round wrote:I'd rather see how Kevin fared against Gavin Rees before putting him in with Murray.

The only way kev beets reed is to get super fit. Rees,s workrate is unbelievable . Tho I didn't think he carried a lot of power . He hit me clean quite a few times. Was surprised at his lack of a dig. But Jesus , he's like a machine when it comes to throwing shots

Kev was on the show on Monday, he will be fighting in March, he was saying that he would like to meet Murray at some point but that would be later in the year. You can listen to the show on our website or Podcast on itunes for full interview :)

Re: Kevin Mitchell wants Murray for his comeback
This would be fight of the year candidate without doubt, it'll be special to watch, if Kevin is given a warm up say a fight with a top 5 domestic fighter I think it's a 50/50 but if he jumps right back in with Murray I think it'd be too much too soon!! Murray is seasoned and extremely tough and durable!! He also has a fantastic engine!! All them things are not good for a fighter who's comin in off a long layoff IMHO
Re: Kevin Mitchell wants Murray for his comeback
SPEAKING TO JOHN HE WOULD BOX ANYONE OUT THERE
Re: Kevin Mitchell wants Murray for his comeback
isn't there anything bigger for murray than waiting til late in the year for mitchell, who's coming off a loss?
if that is murray's big fight for the year, surely it'll be a wasted year.
that's nothing against mitchell's ability as a fighter, but he is coming off a stoppage defeat.

Murray and Rees are disaster fights for Kevin. He gets a prolonged beating and late stoppage in both contests. Not on their level.

Do you think Mitchell would have the power to slow down Ree's Johnny ?johnnygreaves wrote:The only way kev beets reed is to get super fit. Rees,s workrate is unbelievable . Re: Kevin Mitchell wants Murray for his comeback
People are generally too quick to write a fighter off.
Kevin is still a very talented fighter and was carrying a serious eye injury since the Prescott fight. Although not the reason for loosing to Katsidis.
Hopefully now with some of the pressure off, rededication and repaired vision he can certainly come again wiser for the experience!
I've always favoured Kevin strongly over Murray before the Katsidis fight and I still do.

Re: Kevin Mitchell wants Murray for his comeback
Murray would be too strong for Mitchell, in my opinion.
Too much pressure by Murray would break Mitchell down and although people talk of Mitchell's power, he has been fighting blown up fighters - i think his power is overrated (didn't slow Katsides down at all, who basically walked through him).
Good boxer, ok dig but not enough to take on someone like Murray. You got to get Murray's respect early on, to stand a chance.
Murray in about 8-10 rounds.
Obviously, Kevin and Fwank might disagree, only one way to find out

Re: Kevin Mitchell wants Murray for his comeback
In that little snippet, Mitchell doesn't actually say he wants Murray in his "next" fight, and he'd be mad if he did. He would certainly need a fight or two first.
Murray is on the verge in a world title shot, so not sure the timing is right for John. Mitchell wasn't worried about fighting Murray when SN were sweet talking the WBO into giving him a shot, so IMO Murray should close in on his title shot.
