Can't see too much point in Rees taking this fight to be honest. Rather see him take on new challengers and let some of the others have a bite of the cherry.

Lee McAllister, Gary Buckland, Alex Arthur to name a few who could all claim to be valid challengers.

Buckland can perform well at lightweight. Fair enough if McAllister's injured, but since when did the board stop someone challenging for their title over a few pounds in weight (i.e. Arthur) ? Arthur has shaken off the Wright defeat with a couple of wins and the one thing AAA has is experience.

I'd just prefer to see a bit of variety, let Watson build on that loss to Rees and come back again with something new in his arsenal.

The first fight was superb so I think a rematch is fair enough, Watson proved he belonged in Domestic class (maybe even European) he gave Rees real trouble in the middle rounds. I think Rees should get the job done slightly more convinencinly than he did last time

Welsh "Rock" Gavin Rees looks likely to make the first defence of his British lightweight title against Liverpool's John Watson, the man he stopped in 11 thrilling rounds to lift the belt a couple of months ago in Newport.
Rees, a former world light-welterweight champion from Joe Calzaghe's hometown of Newbridge, survived a rocky middle-round period to outlast the previously unbeaten Watson, who deserves a second go for the fight he put up. Watson was just 13-0 going in, conceding masses of experience, but he hurt the home man with uppercuts in the seventh round and proved that today's crop of Liverpool fighters are a special breed indeed, much like the Philly fighters of the 1970s or those red and gold Kronk boys a decade later. Success breeds success, and while Watson eventually lost of course, stopped under fire on the ropes, he will have 'grown' from the whole experience, although you still favour the cute, underrated Rees to get past him again.
Rees is a man who seems to have been around forever yet he is still only 30, just three years older than Watson would you believe. At 34-1 (16), the champion's only defeat came to classy Ukrainian Andreas Kotelnik up at light-welterweight (stopped in 12) and he looks remarkably strong and fresh at lightweight, where there are some attractive matches in the offing for him.
Firstly, he needs to deal with Watson, and I can see Rees boxing and punching his way to a hard-earned decision.

Rees is Murray's European mandatory challenger, so if Murray wants to keep his European title he will have to fight Rees, assuming Rees wants the fight.

It was a good match up no doubt, personally I thought the reports on the fight kind of over hyped it a bit. I never for once thought Rees was on the verge of getting stopped and he was a clearly ahead at the time of the stoppage (which was a good call).

I really cannot see how Watson can beat him.

I think this fight is potentially more intriguing than their first. I think there could be an exact reversal of the first fight's result. John obviously needs to be more adventurous early on, which could be argued would leave him open to a clean shot earlier. However, during the last fight he had to put in a big effort from the middle rounds onwards and I doubt he would have hit the canvass from that shot in 10th had he not been knackered. If John paces the rematch better, and importantly, stops pawing with the jab (which left him open to right hand counters), and disrupts Rees' rhythm then I think Rees will run out of gas late on himself. John just needs to tuck his chin down, get behind that nice tight guard, but this time let his punches go with more authority and belief in short sharp bursts, switching between head to body. Won't be easy and there might be a few scary moments, but I think the title will change hands. I picked Rees to win by stoppage in the first fight, but wanted John to win. He's very bright and think he will have learned enough to make the necessary adjustments this time round.
