Your extended 'vacation' has done you good Spud - you're talking sense for onceSpud wrote:Name another fighter that has ever come from the UK who has taken the ultimate risk of taking on all comers in his weight division.
The normal seems to be once a fighter has made his money he gets his so called career defining fight and thats it.
From the outset Hennessy matched Froch relatively toughly and since he arrived on the world stage he has been involved in some top class fights producing top class performances.
Froch has made a lot of money dont worry about that - I honestly do not believe he would have made anymore being with Mr W arren although he would have been a bigger name - tell me something though - W arren is a fantastic promoter the best the UK has produced - but - I do not believe for one minute he would have risked Froch in the Super 6 tournament.
Jokes aside, as Hurlock and McTavish say, he is most definitely the 'real deal' and THE man. Real 'old school' throwback in terms of his willingness to fight anyone, anywhere and his guts in the ring - no quit in the man, as the Taylor fight proved.
My favourite fighter in years.

Re: What is your opinion on Froch?
It comes down to two things, promotion and PR. Froch got heis airtime on BBC and ITV, but he was never given the star treatmnt by the media that Haye and Khan have received. That is the reason that these two are household names, when Froch isn`t, despite being a world champion alongside them.
However, it`s only if one judges success by the amount of dollars in your account, that one can see Froch or his team as having failed in relation to some of his counterparts. In terms of boxing in great fights, he is streets ahead and all boxing fans know this. Who gives a sh*t what Joe Public thinks.

Khan was a household name and probably more popular at 17.Haye is a Heavyweight.Nobody cared about Haye when he was a Cruiser.Haye works really hard at P.R as well.forcefraser wrote:It comes down to two things, promotion and PR. Haye's PR machine did not get into full swing until he won the Cruiserweight titles - even then very few people were convinced - it wasnt until the sensational victory against Macarinelli that things swung in his favour and the media really got behind him - it had nothing at all to do with promotion!!!mickey1975 wrote:Khan was a household name and probably more popular at 17.Haye is a Heavyweight.Nobody cared about Haye when he was a Cruiser.Haye works really hard at P.R as well.forcefraser wrote:It comes down to two things, promotion and PR. Froch has had a lot of PR and a lot of coverage in the mainstream press especially The Sun - there has been nothing wrong with his promotion to a point in my view - however the lack of coverage on TV has to a point been his downfall - I am willing to bet though there have been a few TV Executives knocking on Hennessy's door now though.
People blame Hennessy - the only fault Hennessy has at his door step is his unwillingness to negoitiate with certain personalities at Sky. Then unfortunately ITV had massive cutbacks so out of the door went boxing again.

I disagree,Spud. If the media got behind him so much after Maccarinelli then why did the Barrett fight bomb so badly at the box office? It was the David and Goliath angle of the Valuev fight and endless promotion of that bout on virtually every show out there that 'made' Haye.

There was a fair few in there Micky - I worked on that show!!!
And with regards the Valuev fight - Hayemaker produced a masterstroke by being promised so much of the sales - thats why they went nuts with regards the promotion of that fight and Sky did do a very good job for them.
I made my points due to people downing Hennessy at every opportunity - I think he has done a good job for Froch and believe me Froch has earnt himself a fair few quid - and W arren would not have paid him anymore if Froch was in his clutches.
Sg1985 - yes the Barrett fight was on Setanta.

Wasn't that the one where they ended up doing 2 for 1 deals to fill the empty seats and left those loyal fans who'd paid normal prices up front feeling ripped off?Spud wrote:Haye fight bob at the box office??mickey1975 wrote:I disagree,Spud. If the media got behind him so much after Maccarinelli then why did the Barrett fight bomb so badly at the box office? It was the David and Goliath angle of the Valuev fight and endless promotion of that bout on virtually every show out there that 'made' Haye.

Re: What is your opinion on Froch?
The TV companies didn't give a sh*t about Haye until his last 2 or 3 fights at best.
The guy deserves credit because he is were he is at today, through his own hard work, sweat and blood. He fought legit opposition and nobody gave a flying fig.
Whilst Macca was fighting absolute dross in front of thousands on some Calzaghe undercard, with loads watching on TV - Haye was meanwhile going life and death with Fragomeni in front of a handful of people at the York Hall, tucked away on a Friday fight night card.
Then when he was finally going to unify with Mormeck in Paris - only 15 people went over to support him and did SKY want to know ? did they bollocks. If it wasn't for Setanta stepping in with 48 hours to go and doing a last minute deal with Don King for a stream, it wouldn't have even been shown on TV whatsoever.
The Macca fight sold, because the public where hoodwinked with the whole Calzaghe snr / Warren exposure. The fight went exactly as i thought with Macca getting obliterated. He was like a scarecrow blowing in the wind when the ref stopped it.
Haye got some exposure with that, but was still not engrained in the public's mind yet. The Barret fight stuttered because they forecast more interest that it actually generated and thus had to do a 2-1 deal and slash prices.
The Valuev fight was a publicity masterstroke though and since then he has broke through and everyone is well aware of him now.
To say suggest Sky "made him a star" is bollocks - they didn't do jack. They only got involved when it suited them.
I doubt Sky will get Froch on with Johnson, or against Ward in the Super Six final - and if he fights Bute they wont care neither. They will only get involved if a silly offer for a Degale fight comes along. Mark my words.

Haye has been on BBC, Setanta and SBO I think.

Yes I did - I had to get a load of squaddies in at the last minute due to the Mark Hobson fight being cancelled and all his supporters giving their tickets back.mickey1975 wrote:I was at the Huddersfield show you probably worked on.How many were there?Spud wrote:Haye fight bob at the box office??mickey1975 wrote:I disagree,Spud. If the media got behind him so much after Maccarinelli then why did the Barrett fight bomb so badly at the box office? It was the David and Goliath angle of the Valuev fight and endless promotion of that bout on virtually every show out there that 'made' Haye.

I remember a lot of people sat in the first couple of rows won a lot of money for that particular fight for predicting the right round - I think Hobbo even had a flutter and was laughing his B*llocks off.

Did the squaddies pay? Were they the over enthusiastic lot who cheered everyone? Anthony Small lapped it up!
Re: What is your opinion on Froch?
Although the flip side is with Warren I doubt he would have gone into the super six, which has been the making of him.yiddo14 wrote:If he was with allegedly he would be the biggest name in British Boxing right now.
Exciting fights, good talker and isn't afraid to speak his mind. Relatively articulate too. He should be a cross over star.
Re: What is your opinion on Froch?
They said he was weight-drained, they said he was through, they knew he was old, but 42-year-old Glen Johnson, the greatest 'pro' in the business, dropped down to super-middleweight and shook up the boxing world with an eight-round knockout of Allan "Sweetness" Green in Las Vegas in November. Victory has earned Johnson a crack at our own Carl Froch for the WBC super-middleweight title, probably in Montreal in May, both of which are wryly academic to someone like Johnson, always in shape, always packed, always on the road.
Johnson looked at the end of it when he dropped a 12-round decision to Clinton Woods in Bolton in 2006. His punches lacked their usual snap and he trudged after the sharper Woods in the closing rounds, a man he had previously mastered. Johnson showed signs of a decaying fighter but made his way home to the States and proved against "Bad" Chad Dawson in a crack at the WBC light-heavyweight title in 2008 that he could still do enough. "Gentleman" Glen got mugged of the title by three loutish judges, although he lost a more convincing verdict to Dawson in a rematch and then came a loss to Tavoris Cloud for the IBF light-heavyweight belt last year, also on points.
It was after Cloud that Johnson made the remarkable decision to drop down to super-middleweight for Green at a stage in his 18-year career when it looked impossible. Johnson hadn't boxed at the weight since picking apart London puncher Toks Owoh in six rounds in London in 2000, on a night when he showed all his technical brilliance and durability, but he picked a big right hand to flatten the impressively muscled Green, who had never been stopped before.
Now for Froch, the best fighter we have at the moment, the strongest, cleverest and bravest, but Johnson's punch-picking - and his iron jaw - spell 'long, hard fight' for King Carl, and it will be interesting to read what the bookies make of it. In Canada, Johnson is not without his chances.

Re: What is your opinion on Froch?
My opinion of Froch.
1. He's a very good boxer, I like his style.
2. He's been very unfortunate as he has fought in the shadow of Calzaghe for most of his career.
3. I think he will be too active and hits too hard for Johnson to pose much of a problem.
4. I think he stand a good chance at winning the Super Six.

Re: What is your opinion on Froch?
I am probably going to be biassed as well as Carl Froch is a Notts boy lik me, I like him. He has gone out won the Lonsdale belt outright taking on all comers stepped onto the world stage has taken on two former World Champions (a bet at Middleweight) in Jermain Taylor and Arthur Abraham and beat them, defeated a future World Champion in Jean Pascal in a Fight of the Year Candidate that got 5 million viewers in front of 5 million viewers, dropped a tight decision to Mikkel Kessler in another thrilling fight that I had Kessler winning by a point, but went out and won it back. He has unshakeable self belief can box well at long range as he showed in the Abraham fight and is not afraid to mix it up with his opponent which means you know that you will get your money's worth when watch him fight.
As for all this talk about Joe Calzaghe and all that. Calzaghe (who I was a fan of) was a fantastic world Champion and a great ambassador for the sport that we all love, but he has had his time in the sunshine and retired when he had nothing to prove and when his hunger was on the wane. It is Froch's moment in the sun and he is making the most of it. It is a bit of a shame that when ITV made the cut backs when Froch was on the up and they would have really pushed the Super Six if they had it, but it is what it is but I do hope that we do see boxing back on Free to Air television some time in the foreseeable future. As for the fight with Gentleman Glencoffe Johnson it is a pick em fight, Johnson has more experience at a higher level than Froch, but Froch has the reach and power to give Johnson a few problems and I think that Froch will take a points win in a thrilling fight.
