Winky Wright v Macklin!!

Post by Old bones Ian »

Apparently signed for 9th April in america, Wright hasn't fought since losing to Williams in 2009.

Its a great oppurtunity for Macklin to gate crash the world scene and get a big name on his record.

Winky is a tough fight for anyone! I think Macklin will really struggle with Wright's jab, he won't be able to get set and put on the pressure as Winky is so good at keeping people off and staying at range, if he isn't too past it I envisage him outjabbing Matthew and outpointing him, if he is as past it as some think I see Macklin struggling early but eventually wearing him down with hard combo's to head and body with fast combinations, upsetting Winky's rhythm. Really good fight for both of them! Should be a good one.

Wow, didn't see this one coming. A tough fight given Macklin's recent form, but if he can't get up for this one he should pack it in. Disappointed the Barker fight won't be happening, but fair's fair, this is a much bigger fight and better opportunity.

Didn't see this one coming.

If he can win & look good it will put him right up there in the mix...but it will be VERY difficult to do that against Wright!

He's also signed a multi-fight promo deal with Golden Boy, which is good news IMO.

Tough, horrible fight for Macklin. He'll look awful against him but should take the W.

Barker would be a much better fight

for us British fans its a shame he's not facing Barker, but for a Macklins career it makes sense to take on a name on a big American bill.

Bit like the Hatton-Witter scenario, sure Macklin can always attempt to justfiy the fight in claiming that Barker isnt a big enough fight but how can he really move on when he hasnt even established himself as the genuine british no1 at middleweight?

I dont like this move at all.

What happens if Matty loses to a past-it 39 year old Winky Wright ?

Be amazing if he tonked him. But would likely plod to the cards and Winky is an LV resident is he not ?

it's always great to have British interest on Vegas bills, say what you want about the Barker fight, but that will never happen, it was destined not to when Hennessy won purse bids.

Marquez v Morales is expected to top the bill and also talk of Katsidis v Robert Guerrero on it.

Shameful and embarrassing that Barker v Macklin isn't happening, IMO. Just another sh1t day for British boxing. Hey, great that he's got Wright but it would have been nice if those involved in the proposed domestic match could have actually made it happen.

Complete joke there is nothing to gain fighting a 39 year old has been who has not had a fight for 2 years! I hear the purse bid was huge for the barker fight so it would of been his biggest pay day to date plus why not prove he is the best middleweight in the country and putting all the barker fans in there place. The winner of macklin barker would surely be in line for a world title shot as well. I truly believe macklin knows in his heart of hearts barker will beat him why else not make boxing fans in this country extremely happy. Winky 100% will school him no probs even if he had been out for 5 years! For all u macklin fans out there what do u think of your boy p!ss!ng off to the US to fight an old man thats gonna beat him, gotta feel let down as do I. :shame:

If Winky has anything left, he'll beat Macklin for my liking.

Seems a very weird pairing.

I'd take macklin over barker but against winky.. Well wright will have to be half the man he was because the wright I remember would easily keep macklin at bay and win by unanimous decision.

Mack is turning down 100k to fight an old boy in the USA after the fight was made with Barker , hope he is getting good money for this one as if he loses witch I think he will he will have nowhere to go! Don't think he ever wanted to fight Barker! Gutted really thought it would happen this time both getting great money, this sort of thing shouldn't be able to happen when a fight has been made!!!

Not to mention the fact that Tito would knock him out.

Macklin beats Barker for my money - always thought that - but if Winky isn't totally shot his world class jab and tight defence will give Matt nightmares.

Can't blame Macklin for taking this fight - it's a much bigger fight for him than the Barker fight though as many are, I'm gutted Macklin-Barker ain't happening. Sure Winky Wright is past his best, but he's a massive name and a former p4per. A win over Wright would really catapult Macklin into the spot light.

That said, I think stylistically it's a horrible match-up for him. Good luck to him and I hope he gets the win (I'm a longtime Macklin fan) but if Winky is anywhere his best he'll give Macklin a boxing lesson IMO.

Not a chance in hell would macklin beat barker and him taking this laughable fight proves he knows it! Easy pay day for Winky don't blame him fighting the birmingam bottle job!

Exactly, his southpaw stance, movement, spearing jab and turtle defence are a pressure fighter's nightmare. Here's hoping Macklin can step up his game though. I feel he is better than he showed in his last fight.

Some of the comments on here crease me up.

I'd have liked to see the Barker fight happen but I am almost happy he has been left in the lurch again just to sicken Barker's deluded fans that always seem to crawl out of the woodwork like grubs everytime there is a Macklin thread.

"Wonderful and exciting that Winky and Macklin is happening, IMO. Just another cracking day for Irish boxing."
