Floyd Patterson vs Dwight Qawi

Post by SaadOffTheDeck »

15 rounds.

Floyd gets a lot of heat for his chin and a lot of that is due to the size he was giving up. He may not have been as experienced at Light Heavyweight, but he was a bad ass. His hand speed ranks with the fastest to ever enter a ring.

The first thing I think of when Qawi is brought up is his underrated defense. While he was a pressure fighter with a cast iron jaw. He really slipped punches well for a guy classified as a slugger and I think Floyd would have trouble getting his money shot home consistently.

Any thoughts?

Easy win for Floyd and probably by KO. The speed and power of Floyd is key in this fight.

Intriguing matchup. I happen to think both these guys are underrated, especially Patterson. Given how Patterson, well past his prime, was able to deal with Bonavena I will give him the edge here, Patterson by UD.

I think it'd be all Patterson after about the 5th round, he could possibly stop Qawi, but it's probably more likely that he fights his way to a wide points victory.

If this is at 175 with a green Patterson Qawi has a legit chance. If we are talking about a peak Patterson at 187 he bludgeons Qawi. Although of course he gave Evander a tough go and Holyfield in Saad's eyes is Mr. T . . .

Yawn

It's at Light Heavyweight, that's why I mentioned Floyd's inexperience. I still think he would win, but I don't see him stopping or whitewashing Dwight at any point.

It wasn't clear from the post the fight was at 175. Give me Qawi shading Floyd over 15.

My bad, I assumed bringing up Floyd at Light heavy made it pretty clear. I guess you thought I was just throwing that in there for an extra sentence.

Am I the only person that thinks Qawi's power and relentless assault would overwhelm Floyd?

I know what you mean. Floyd would have been young and relatively inexperienced. Qawi was the finished article.

Patterson did comprehensively beat Joey Maxim (robbery) very early in his career, for whatever it's worth.

I think Qawi is quite under rated. This fight would be a pick em for me
