Thanks for the mention Glyn  but it was Simon Fox who came up with the Peter Buckley idea not me and just wanted to give him his props. Both you and Johnny came across really well and lets hope the powers to be were listening.

this journeyman donkey derby talk is silly i mean all the support it has gotten on here & i guarantee people would not be dissapointed to miss it.

i think the ufj ultimate fighting journeyman would be good :!:

basically they fight 3 times against 3 top fighters that leather them & its based on who is still standing & absorbed the least punishment & has the least mark's & can continue work for the next week :DDD oh & there are loads of standby's no place is certain as they are all subs & there name comes out bingo style to all the punters & hearns plays the dart's anthem do dododooo do do doo oi oi oi :bow:it will be lambs to the slaughter :!:
journeymen cant turn into cinderella for the night when they have become versed into surviving, let's see the ultimate survivor series :OhYes:

didnt realise your a fighter, i dont think my opinion will spoil any plan's. there are many behind it i mean there has been very capable journeymen in the past but you've took 4 years & 64 fights to win 3 fight's & how can you do that in one night???

you probably do better moneywise then plenty of pro's. obviously journeyman pf is a nice earner but dont the fighter's who have been unlucky & struggle to get matched need this as a leaping board???
journeymen can enter the tournament if they have had abit of form or be on standby so its not like theres discrimination.

gary reid, jimmy vincent, paul wesley top class pro's have fallen into the journeyman role & have turnt it around & it's great too see them do it.

You're missing the point. The whole night would be about recognising the unsung boxers who keep the sport going. Without them there would be a hell of a lot less boxing taking pless.

We want to give them to have a night in the limelight and a genuine chance of glory, if only for one night.

I made a mistake in an earlier reply.
Adam Smith was NOT ignoring me - he has changed numbers. My mistake and I'm glad to correct it.

Adios.

excellent post :TU:
There seems to plenty of dough and razzamattaz about in boxing; the work horses do deserve their chance to strut their stuff. I'd like a night a season; some of the lads box just about anyone within half a stone; there are loads deserving of a level playing field and a bit of recognition. (lots of the lads have to balance out beating the kid in front of them with the prospect of getting no more work from that promoter; you may not like it; it is not cricket; but there's the facts). Some of these lads can fight and go bang at it. Once you've got a few losses the general public think you can't fight, simple as. We as boxing fans know a bit more (about boxing and boxers) than the average sports fan. After 30 or so pro fights; lose em all or win a couple; that man knows the ring inside out. When to punch, when to move, which one to slip, which one to block. I've seen journeymen spar hard (Dean Bramald, Kevin Plant, Rob Stephenson). No one wants to be bottom of their class. Boxing is a competitive sport; not everyone can be Pernell Whittaker but with a bit of notice against someone with similar abilities they can put on a delightful show.

And while the winner of a journeyman Prizefighter might not go on to do an Audley or even a Marty Rogan, ie challenge for major titles, the publicity and interest he would get could maybe launch a challenge on an Area title, and I'm sure that those who watched him win Prizefighter would be interested in watching him do that, following his career.

The human interest angle in this is absolutely massive and shouldn't be underestimated. For instance, almost every girlfriend I've had didn't like boxing at first. But once I sat them down in front of the TV and explained the story behind each of the fighters in the fight we would be watching, they got into it and became boxing fans. The stories behind these journeymen, if Sky did a good job of telling them (and Sky do make a good promo these days), have the potential to appeal to even more people who don't normally follow boxing than might be the case for a standard boxing show.
