what are his best fights, his key wins?

he made 17 defenses of a jr flyweight belt, 2 more than hall of famer jung koo chang.

OK, he maybe doesn't have the names that chang faced, really good fighters that chang stopped or overwhelmed in memorable fights, etc etc. but he must have been good to have lasted that long, to have been so

no doubt some will come on here with the usual old timer rhetoric - "homeboy", "lucky decisions", "substandard opposition" and so on. this usually gets applied to any fighter who takes his title home and has close fights. if possible i'd like to get past the usual negativity so that i can check out some of this guy's most important and memorable fights.

the man does have his supporters so let's hear about the good and the bad.

i mean, there's not much to talk about, is there?

a 15 round war with demarco, in which an estimated 3000 punches were thrown

fiercely contested, close wins, and the rematches (jose de jesus, gamez)

and the 2 with gamez, an eventual 4 weight world champ (straw, jr fly, fly and super flyweight)

in 1993, he was voted the greatest korean boxer of all time, above chang, moon, etc

Its good to see someone in here bringing up yuh's name, but disappointing that noone else here has picked up the baton and said a few words about him before me!. This illustrates again how little these lighter weight fighters are appreciated, especially if they come from places like Japan, Korea or Thailand etc . Yu is criminally under rated. I have about 15 of his fights, most of them his world title fights and he was never in a dull fight, let alone a bad one. He was a little human dynamo, fast two fisted and with power in both hands but also good boxing skills. He reminds me a lot of fighting Harada with both his two fisted style and his intensity, often running out of the corner at the start of rounds just like Harada did. I would recommend any fight of Yu's but especially his fights with Ben Murillo, oH Kon son, and his fights with Leo Gamez... all excellent contests. its a shame more people dont know anything about Yu.... he definately deserves to be in the hall of fame.

I've a fair amount of his fights but lack of TV exposure and unwillingness to travel (not that I necessarily agree they should) is generally why they fly under the radar.

certainly he'd be under ther radar considering carbajal and gonzalez had that classic battle, regarded as the first superfight in the junior flyweight class.

contests with gamez (4 weight champ) and other champs would seem to give yuh some serious credentials.

i'm looking forward to checking out his fights, especially vs demarco and gamez.

Have you seen much of Yoko Gushiken? A veritable whirlwind of a fighter.

he's one i want to get into. which are the gushiken fights to get hold of?

jsut seen yuh v demarco and what a fight. they do not stop punching. nowhere near the power of carbajal and gonzalez but superior workrate. yuh's shots looked abit puny, especially the right hand, but then as the fight wore on, you could appreciate the accuracy of yuh, as he was starting to really snap the head back.

was yuh v iota, where he regains the title, another good 'un?

what was the demarco rematch like? i notice it was scored much wider than their riveting and close first fight was.

which fights was yuh lucky to win? the title-winning effort vs olvio? the first bout with gamez? the first with dejesus?

if so it looks good that he rematched gamez, de jesus and also demarco.

also how good was leo gamez, a guy who wasn't far off winning titles at 5 weights?
