Re: McDonnell v Jamoye tonight
Doncaster is always a difficult venue for a promoter - there's literally hundreds of people doing other things there and in addition I honestly believe the entrance to the boxing venue is not conjusive to a show running nice and smoothly with regards getting the punters to their seats.
Maloney Promotions in my view run a tight ship and before you criticise them - have a little think that they might have been dictated to by Sky with regards to timings of bouts - for example there was one bout where the boxers were sent back to the dressing room so Sky could go through their rehersals - I know for a FACT Frank Maloney wanted the boxers in the ring but was told no due to those rehersals.

Yeah, I seen Frank hauling McDonnell out of the ring immediately after the decision to do an interview with Ed Robinson because they were short on broadcast time. I suppose Sky pay the money so they have to have a certain amount of control over the running of the show.

I honestly believe Maloney Promotions are very good with their punters and a lot of problems were down to Sky and their scheduling.Deno1986 wrote:Yeah, I seen Frank hauling McDonnell out of the ring immediately after the decision to do an interview with Ed Robinson because they were short on broadcast time. Re: McDonnell v Jamoye tonight
my only critcisim is that the tickets say doors open 6:30pm which was not the case, and knowone had the decency to inform me that the show was starting earlier, when i had 115 people buy a ticket to come and whatch me.
Re: McDonnell v Jamoye tonight
Yeah it's not the best venue for anything, the music gigs there are terrible.
They had a 2 hour broadcast, they only showed 2 bouts, about half the broadcast was talking heads.
The ticket problem I understand was out of their hands.

Very valid point - however sometimes in fact very very often a promoter has doors opening times on the tickets and will go out of his way to keep to those timings only for TV Executives to change everything on the morning of the show in some meeting. In addition at these meetings you will get the running order changed due to "TV wishes" when a fighter has told his fans say the day before roughly what time he will be on.kierny wrote:my only critcisim is that the tickets say doors open 6:30pm which was not the case, and knowone had the decency to inform me that the show was starting earlier, when i had 115 people buy a ticket to come and whatch me.
Re: McDonnell v Jamoye tonight
Personally, I don't have first hand experience of a Maloney show or a Sky Saturday Fight Night but I have seen RTÉ covering Brian Peters shows in Ireland and the producers and floor staff can be very 'forceful' regarding the running times and fight order - by the end of the night the show would be after running completely different to the original plan laid out by the promoters. I presume Sky are the same in the UK with all promoters.Spud wrote:I honestly believe Maloney Promotions are very good with their punters and a lot of problems were down to Sky and their scheduling.Deno1986 wrote:Yeah, I seen Frank hauling McDonnell out of the ring immediately after the decision to do an interview with Ed Robinson because they were short on broadcast time. It is out of order and i am suprised your fans didnt kick off.You could lose support due to things like this,£30 for a round is not good value.kierny wrote:my only critcisim is that the tickets say doors open 6:30pm which was not the case, and knowone had the decency to inform me that the show was starting earlier, when i had 115 people buy a ticket to come and whatch me.

Whilst I appreciate fans want to see their favourite fighter fight - to say they didnt get value for money is a foolhardy statement to make!! - what happens when their fighter sparks a journeyman who has no chance in the first place??
Fans got value for money in abundance last night with the top of the bill fight on its own.
Is it a fault of the promoter that some supporters prefer to stay in the bar getting p*ssed rather than watch the many other fights the promoter puts on his show??
Re: McDonnell v Jamoye tonight
Of course not Spud, but is this what Kierny is suggesting happened? The implication, as far as I am reading it is, that the bill started before the advertised time.
Well I do feel sorry for Kierny who lost some support by the sounds of it. If they arrived at the doors opening time and missed him - then it is something got lost in translation somewhere between promoter and advertiser.... if they came in say at 7 and missed the action then, their fault.
But either way, I still feel sorry for Kierny.

Re: McDonnell v Jamoye tonight
no, im not after sympothy, everyone who comes to whatch me will still come in the future and like spud said if they wanted value for money they would have got it whatching the rest of the bill, but like i said there was a breakdown in communication somewhere and i did not get word early enough to make a alternative for the coaches , the time was changed very discretly and EVERYONE should of been told when they come out to show support , not just to there own fighter but to the sport of boxing! because i no 3/4s of the people i sell tickets too whtach the whole bill and enjoy the whole night but when they missed my fight it kind of puts a stinker on the rest of the night for them!

I remember seeing that and was shocked by how quickly they wanted him to do the post fight interview. He hardly had anytime to celebrate in the ring. Was just whisked off.Deno1986 wrote:Yeah, I seen Frank hauling McDonnell out of the ring immediately after the decision to do an interview with Ed Robinson because they were short on broadcast time. Re: McDonnell v Jamoye tonight
Most of Kierans fans bought tickets to see him box,i doubt any would have made the trip if he was not on the card. They arrived before the time stated on the ticket yet still missed his fight. They had every right to be severly pissed off.Spud wrote:Aboslute B*llocks!!!mickey1975 wrote:It is out of order and i am suprised your fans didnt kick off.You could lose support due to things like this,£30 for a round is not good value.kierny wrote:my only critcisim is that the tickets say doors open 6:30pm which was not the case, and knowone had the decency to inform me that the show was starting earlier, when i had 115 people buy a ticket to come and whatch me.

Re: McDonnell v Jamoye tonight
cracking fight i thought at some point jamoye was gunna take over the fight he was a rugged strong fighter but mcdonnell never panicked and showed great mentle strengh i had him up by 2 rounds at the end hes got a new fan in me i was very impressed i found it hard to cheer him on in the beginning when i saw steelcity65 ugly mug in his corner but i forgive him for that! yorkshire yorkshire yorkshire
Re: McDonnell v Jamoye tonight
You're exactly right, Mickey. The fans don't give a f**k whose fault it is. They've stumped up hard earned, travel and no doubt booze money for a ticket which states doors open at 6.30pm. They get there on time and the fight's over.mickey1975 wrote:You could lose support due to things like this,£30 for a round is not good value.kierny wrote:my only critcisim is that the tickets say doors open 6:30pm which was not the case, and knowone had the decency to inform me that the show was starting earlier, when i had 115 people buy a ticket to come and whatch me.
115 tickets? You'll have a hard job selling as many again. Have a word with Frank M - he understands about value for money and might sort your fans something special out for next time (even it wasn't down to him).

I think he means ice skating and the like.
It's usually closed by the time the event is underway and they're not allowed past a certain point anyway as the atrium is a bar.
It's a shit venue for gigs/boxing and they are clueless, in general. I've been going there for 20 years, it never gets any better.

Oh he means the Dome specifically? I see.
Prince Charles is a big fan of the dome.
