I suggest you ignore my posts, as you said you would, or you'll end up in loony house as have many over the years.
Just a bit of friendly advice

Ditto, I also thought for a while that Leglise would go far on the international stage. Yeah, Choo Choo pole-axed him and that was the end of that. "ouch" just thinking about that nasty KOCollins2000 wrote:One fighter I thought was going places was Pat Leglise.
I saw his great fight with Jeff Malcolm (on tape) and was looking forward to see who they would put him in with next.
They chose the dangerous American Charlie "Choo Choo" Brown who looked to be on the slide and a win against him would look good on Pat's record.
Unfortunately, Brown destroyed him. It looked like man against boy stuff.
Mate the Bobby Murdoch youre referring to was a Light Heavyweight then, He was from Geelong, a rugged and hard southpaw, bobby fought TV Ringside around the same time as i just started, but he had been fighting a lot earlier than i did, I'm not sure whether it's the same Murdoch who went to the 56 Olympics, I knew there was another Murdoch, who went to the Olympics, but i'd never met or even seen him, I may ring Bobby and find out, now that you've got me interested.patron wrote:a few names have bobbed up in this thread that has stirred the cobwebs, shane knox was one boy i thought would go all the way, he was a complete fighter,we had a promising young fighter here in newcastle, darwin north, he was thrown in too early with knox and he was never the same fighter after that fight, i saw big jim west at marrickville in the early 70,s against ferrari,he was a little terrier, he also fought up here against a local boy, kylamy{brad] you mentioned norm foster, he was a good mate of one of my brothers when he lived in newcastle,he often came to our place, they were fighting at the same time,he always had a big smile, loved a laugh, he went down to melbourne with tony hall after micky tollis and billy herbert, newcastle boys found it hard to get a fight in sydney in those days [late 40,s]boxers and trainers fell outwith stadium ltd, norm used to come up to our reunions every year. he was the official photographer, he also put a book out on newcastle boxing history.
Patron, Yes i knew Norm always went to the Newcastle reunions, he was always a smiling and jolly bloke, he was a terrific matchmaker as well, also considering at that time, he had plenty of fighter's to work with, but there was also lots of politics between Dick Lean Jnr and the Australian Boxing Federation (ABF) i think it was, then a little later Channel ten come on board and got quite a few of the Stadiums boys on their cards, they had the support of the recently retired Ben Brizzi, even Harry hayes fought for channel 10 as well, yes there was some pretty good stoushes outside the ring as well in those days.
george barnes was guest speaker at our 34th reunion ,he was greatly admired by young and very old fighters, we have our 45th coming up, you.ve got me wondering what year he took the count, i had the misfortune to spar with him before his fight with atu clottey , a mate talked me into it, i,ve been dtrty on him ever since, george used to be the head doorman at the motor club in sydney in the early 70,s, great fighter, great bloke.could you tell me if the old bob murdock in melbourne is the same murdock that went to the 1956 olympics, and was from the hunter coalfields area, would appreciate any imfo.,and brad ,enjoy reading your posts, don,t veer off the track.all the best
So said the old Fighter Mag 32 years ago. In those days, men were men and some still thought a pansy was a flower!WOMEN BOXERS? GO AWAY, GIRLS!

"ref" hope you keep posting mate, interested in hearing what you've seen
patron, always been a big fan of your posts mate, very much interested in your opinions on the old days (esp on the Newcastle boys), hope you start a thread one day.
