The Board said maybe there was a breakdown in communication between HS and the foreign agent but it was made clear to HS on Saturday that it cannot happen and they should not advertise it.
May be it was a bit of a ploy to try and generate some ticket sales?
Botha is in poor shape and is boxing just for the money. Te BAord knocked back Joe Bugner to face Scott Welch due to Bugner being over 40 and the fight took place in Germany. Botha is a shadow of his former self and doesn't try too hard anymore. Good call by the Board and beating the current Botha wouldn't tell us too much about Tyson Fury in my opinion.
Would be interesating to see if Holyfield wanted to come over as to what the Board would say.
I think it would also be a NO.
I watched Holyfield's 'fight' with Sherman Williams on youtube and it's hilarious, a gallery of creaking old men. Holy bails out with a cut under the accidental butt thing, when he is clearly losing; John David Jackson, who looks like The wild Man of Borneo and trains Williams, stands there and takes a long look at Holy's cut to satisfy himself; Christ, even Mike Weaver is knocking about somewhere.
On what grounds was he rejected? It can't simply be age, because if he's passed medically fit then that would be a case of restricting his trade. Nor can it be considered a mismatch, even if Fury would be a comfortable favourite.
I remember when Bugner was denied a licence for the Welch fight; BN editorial (under a different staff line-up) disagreed with it under the headline "Let the old guy fight".
I have to admit Hennessy has done a great job promoting Fury, they've brought him along perfectly. Though I do think he will be found wanting at Domestic level
lefty wrote:Hennessys policy at the moment seems to be to have fury fight aload of shot worn fighters!lol. Why dont they just put him in with the likes of price, dallas, etc to see if he is good enough.
because they wont fight him.
Thats not true, We have try to make Price vs Fury and are still willing to make this fight, Would sit down with Mick Hennessy and work out a deal for this fight.
Errrr, Fury is still ONLY English champ, so this fight's a good one for him. People might want him pushed a long at a speedy rate but he's only a baby. He should probably concentrate on fighters like this for the next year before moving up at the start of 2012. I wouldn't mind seeing him fight Holyfield in the next 18 months too.

If Evander stills alive, nevermind fighting.
After saturday I don't think Holyfield should be allowed in the ring ever again. Shame, he shouldn't really be mentioned in the same thread as Tyson Fury.
Has there been any official word that this is off?
If the self-styled 'Flexecutioner' says it is, then I'm sure he's right. Just wondered if it has been reported on yet. I put the press release up on the news site and obviously, if it's wrong, an explanation needs to go up.

Fury is still just a novice, albeit a talented one who has achieved more compared to his fellow British prospects/contenders (Chisora apart).
Botha is years past his best, but would still probably be a better opponent that any they are digging up for Price, Dallas, Larry O, Towers etc. I'm sure he could still teach Fury a trick or two. Frans was always durable and at this level should be able to give Fury some rounds. Fury's not world class yet, so why the Board knocked this one back and continue to approve some of the shit they normally do is beyond me (unless they come up with a genuine reason in the meantime).
I'm also a bit baffled as to why the board knocked it back. I mean this is Tyson Fury we're talking about here, not Mike Tyson. It's hardly a mismatch. In fact I'd say it's a good fight for Tyson at this stage.
Exactly my question. Of course his form is poor compared to his earlier years, but that's the same for any fortysomething boxer. Even so, he's hardly been displaying any worse form than the majority of opponents heavyweight prospects face on the way up.

Robert Smith confirmed it earlier today: "I don't know why the fight was announced." Reckons it was never a going concern as per Dan's warning.
They knock it back for Price before this fight was put out as made.
